When you learn piano incorrectly but it still sounds good

Playing 4 famous piano songs and swapping my hands to see if still sounds good. What do you think?

    Relate, so hard to this as an alto that went to a tenor. As an alto in choir I always had either the melody or harmony. Tenor it's like, 1 note or a less noticable harmony.

    All right, there is a certain part in the Hungarian rhapsody where you're supposed to play with hands crossed. So I wonder what will happen if you just don't...

  • @nachochips1458

    @nachochips1458

    Жыл бұрын

    Play everything crossed then switch to normal

  • @DallasBolin

    @DallasBolin

    Жыл бұрын

    If you're playing it properly/normally, you physically can't "just not cross hands" for the parts you're referring to. The only alternative would be to bring the left hand up to seamlessly take the right hand part and move the right hand up to play the crossed over left hand part above, then seamlessly bring them back down to their original places for the next notes. I... Suppose this is probably mechanically doable, actually, but it would be extremely difficult to pull off while still sounding musical and seamless and such. And that's just for the crossing parts in the slow first section, the Lassan. If you're talking about the crossing during the Friska, the same is technically true but it would be an order of magnitude more awkward to pull off. The best thing about crossed hand technique is that most serious composers only call for it when it serves the musical setting and adds to the overall sound, rather than using it as a showy gimmick for crowd pleasing, which it is often viewed as today. The simple truth is that playing with hands crossed is not really any more or less difficult than doing anything else on the piano; it requires the samd attention to detail and finesse of technique as anything else and is likewise made more or less difficult by the difficulty of the music the composer wrote.

    That's right, it looks very impressive but in reality it's easier than it looks. The overall fingering is the same, it's literally just a change in hand position- doing it without the hands crossed and instead making the left hand play the right hand part and vice versa would be a lot more challenging.
