    You were right, it did trigger me. What a shame they didn't save that Stug III, and turn it over to the museum. I would also hope that the remains of the 3 crewman were returned to Germany as well as their personal belongings, to give surviving families closure. Sadly it didn't appear so and in my opinion it looked like the individuals who recovered the tank were rather disrespectful to the dead. In my opinion it should have been a somber moment, not one of amusement, ie, playing with the MP40, and pointing it in unsafe directions.. (way to go on that firearm safety!🙄) and posing for pictures. Still a very interesting video! Thanks for sharing!

    The problem is Russia is currupt the people running Russia are currupt , leaving most of the population to find a means to make a living , in the ear the Russians front moved so fast the recovery of both equipment and dead was not posserble then their was the no holds barred by both sides in a brutal fight to the death , some most of this stuff had not value while the Soviet union was in place , locals knew were the battle grounds were and the equipment was , but now there is a huge black market for Nazi equipment in the west , over returning these tanks or remains back to museums remains been properly documented and buried . Most falls into private collections of more than likely right wing leaning military collectors , in a world that is sliding Right wing in many nations , correctly these relics should be preserved for all to see , just as many other relics from other historical periods both good and bad have been. But this is all about money nothing else respect for the dead is not profitable for these people only the equipment that they used or wore.

    John Spooner I recall watching a video here on KZread about a group of Russian Nationals who traveled all over Russia to recover the remains of both German and Soviet soldiers from the Second World War. Once returned, they were given proper burials and surviving family members were contacted I think that's very impressive!

    Yes that is or was the case , I to remember a doc made by Channel 4 in the UK that followed, their work on the battle field of Kursk . they did a very good job , but what is happening now in both Russia and its former states . is little less than grave robbing . I think it is illegal across most of Europe to look for old battle ground in search of lost munitions & equipment , that were missed or never found after the conflict ended . besides that real dangers involved is messing around with old shells mines and ammunition , there is also laws governing the finding and sales of Historical artifacts including WW1 and 2 equipment and former battle sites. you see in lots of these KZread videos of those metal detecting that they have to contact the police or a police contact when they find mines , shells and antitank weapons . in the former soviet countries this is not the case and many videos have the faces hidden for a very goof resign has what they are doing is illegal even under their own laws.

    I've wondered for some time what happened to this Stug, it is such a shame that it was vandalised by its new owners. The fact that it was a museum which engaged in this destructive behaviour makes it all the more incredible. Through their actions they destroyed much of the stug's significance and it would have been better off for preservation purposes being left in the bog. Former enemies or not, the remains of the crew didn't seem to get much respect either.

    The crew members should have been given a proper burial that is the decent thing to do .their families should have been able to bury the with dignity it's the least they deserve doesn't matter what Side they fought for. Soldiers from both Germany and Russia deserve to be buried properly with dignity.

    Good vid but I was rather upset the way these folks treated human remains, sickening. Enemies or not, all human remains should be treated with dignity and respect, neither of which was shown here. As far as the Stug, it looked in almost perfect condition as being buried in the cold mud preserved it. Thanks for sharing.

    Wargaming made these docu's about Russian crews that would search old documents to find tanks. One time they discoverd in a document that there was a KV-1 tank wich was being transported by a boat over a river. I don't remember but the KV-1 tank fell of the boat or the boat sank, so 70+ years later they searched the river with sonar and found the tank on the bottom and then pulled it out. Their job was litterly pulling tanks out of bogs, beached and or the water. Wargaming also made another document about a crew in Byelorussia that also made a living about restoring WW2 tanks found in modern times. I went to the wolfsschanze like 2 days ago and now I'm at home in the Netherlands and in one of the bunkers I saw a kind "restored" Hetzer. The Hetzer was found in the Polish city of Gdánsk in the sea underneath the beach. It was pulled out and only the remains of the engine and the gun are inside. The side plates are replaced by fake ones and the there's no roof, only one track.... But they might have discoverd the tank like this.

    This StuG didn't simply break into ice. It was hit by a russian anti tank weapon on the left side superstructure near the gunners position which penetrated the armour. At e.g. 6:01, 6:12, 7:10 you can see the hole as a dark spot and at 6:10 a guy inspecting the hole. This probably killed all or at least the three crewmembers on the left side (driver, gunner, commander).

  • @oberstwake

    @oberstwake

    I don't deny there is certainly an impact of some sort in that location, but it doesn't appear to be a very large caliber at all, maybe that of an anti-tank rifle. To think that, if that round even penetrated, that it killed three or more of the crew is foolish.
