StuG III Ausf D Restoration Part IV.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This StuG with Fahrgestellnumber 90678 was assigned to Sonderverband 288 with three other StuGs and send to Creece, these four StuGs were later send to North Africa, but only three made it after one of them fell of the dock while loading.
In North Africa the three moved out into the dessert with the DAK. One of the StuGs (probably 90678) did some scouting and was quickly chased down by several Bren Carriers, the crew pannicked and abandoned the StuG.
The other two were also abandoned after they ran out of fuel some time in November of 1942.
This StuG and another one was send back to the UK for testing and 90678 ended up in the Pirbright fire range, it was later recoverd by Bob fleming and sold to Kevin Wheatcroft,
it was then traded for a original Schwimmwagen and restored by Jon Phillips.

Best regards!

Wow, back from the scrap heap into a working piece of history, and I am someone who can appreciate this sort of thing from my studies and degree in industrial and automotive technology, I mean, the welding, the adaptation of missing pieces to old rust and torch damaged areas, apart from the firing range damage, and from I see a rather small shop in comparison to what folks would believe it would take, I mean, this is a representation of historical struggles of the men and the machines, and the stug's were known as a deadly foe. I wished I could be part of such restorations, just to be a part, but I only hope to at least someday participate in a build of something, I have some of the skills, I mean, I ever win a lottery, haha, then I will be found living practically in a shop environment restoring vintage military vehicles, some cars,....errrrrr, with help of course. The people who worked on this, real pro's in their field I surmize, welding, machining, mechanical.

Stug very nice,🤩 it has one beauty defect 😵‍💫1942 in Tunisia both Stug III D and Pz III J used an older type of front sprocket wheel. This type had G version mid-late and late 1944/45😉

What's amazing is looking at the progress of this historical tank a lot of these things had to be handmade and fabricated. I've always wondered how would something like this fare on a modern battlefield upgraded of course. This is one of my favorite German tanks of all of them even the mighty tiger.

You can't place music on KZread or at least good music, so you have to pay for it or choose non copyrighted music, but non copyrighted music will eventually get bought buy companies and destroy your videos in the future, just like what happened with this video. Making it an inaudible mess.

The M113 engine was meant for a vehicle that was 12 tons of aluminum. The StuG is 24 tons of steel with a top speed of 25 mph. How does the modern powerplant compare with the original? Kudos for the incredible engineering feat!

panzermatt - These restoration videos are not the originals, so the talking, that would supply added data, is missing. This engine isn't a tank engine, it's a more recent truck engine. There are other KZread videos of Stug-3s that you can hear the difference. So this motor isn't quite powerful enough - and this situation is one that is a bit awkward for a tracked vehicle like a tank. Also, you can't tell, but there's no interior, so there's no seats...I'm sure there's something, but it's not the best setup, and so he did well to get the Stug on the trailer.
