Just started going to a boxing gym, the trainer isn’t too fond on my peek-a-boo stance and drastic slips and weaves…but I’m new all together so I’m taking value from his advice but practicing the peek a boo during open gym. It feels far more comfortable to me, especially that I’m 5’ 6”

Weird thing is I am 6 foot 3 ¾ and yet I prefer Peek a Boo. The way it works just feels better and seems to make more sense to me. But Mike Tyson is my fav fighter, and not simply because of peek a boo

Yea boxing coaches hate stance switching but that hate is just foolish to me. If my body can do it, then I'm gonna do it. Floyd Patterson had a lethal peek-a-boo style because he could stance switch with ease

Like for long range fighting I prefer cuban flow, but in the hold it's definitely peek-a-boo.

Yea. These beginner level advice fucked me up for a long time haha. An idiot like me is going to take everything literal. You get coaches telling you never to square up, or never put your hands down, never cross your feet, etc. etc. But like this guy said it's about range. Something things, style or technique is going to be more optimal or not depending on the situation. I was a shorter boxer and trained and developed like a long range fighter. I get tagged so fucking easy in sparring its ridiculous because here I am trying to adhere to what the coaches say haha. I was never going to be able to counter a taller fighter like that. Now I know I should've developed in fighting, especially the peekaboo stance, which is a defensive stance. Sparring really discouraged me from boxing, and the coaches never had fixes for me. Imo the most effective shorter fighter styles are definitely a Mike Tyson and Loma like style.

Weave into southpaw connecting my 6 4 2 explains a lot cause I feel awkward doing em in orthodox and that cus tape willie bag he kept saying move as you or after u punch can’t tell if he’s saying weave or side step closer or step out cause I’m doing em “from a distance “ Mid range but agh maybe I need too be more square this time I know my somewhat heavy bag is flying too the left side as it dose to my right. Btw thank you for the vid Respect .

  • @jeremiahjeremiah1319

Mike had spring in his step, he bounced around alot especially in amateur days. Once he hit mod twenties, he would approach his opponent on flat feet. Maybe because he put on alot more size I'm not sure. But he obviously lost the art somewhere along the way, that pendulum swing takes alot of conditioning to maintain. I'm 185 lbs, and I've adopted his same techniques (not totally) and I found its difficult to keep the energy up. I've got a few videos practicing that sort. No sparring videos yet though!

another key element to the peekaboo style is that you have to train yourself to the point that you're ambidextrous, you need to be smooth on both orthodox and southpaw. Transitioning from one stance to the other and vice versa should be like natural like breathing to you. Watch how Marvelous Marvin Hagler does it
