When To Use A GMRS Repeater Or When You Can Use A Ham Radio Repeater - GMRS For Dummies

In this video I explain when you should use a ham radio or GMRS repeater and when you should not use a GMRS repeater or a amateur radio repeater. I explain when simplex is the right choice for GMRS or ham radio communications and I give a brief overview of how amateur radio repeaters and GMRS repeaters work. Its like an amateur radio for beginners or GMRS for dummies video, almost.

I am ecstatically delighted and disproportionately flabbergasted with enormous gratification and appreciation for the dispensation for such a tendering mesmerizing information in which the prestidigitation of the concurrent and subsequent matter is thoroughly demonstrated through the innuances alluding to literal and metaphorical context. It's highly imperative to note that such is the significance of the aforementioned distortion in any shape or form will result in catastrophic ramifications to which will be the outcome of the epic proportions. I thank you for your unequivocal. I dealically base on my intellectual capacity and my vast knowledge, tactically and tentatively, right from the beginning of times especially in the light of eclesiastes evolution, i have come to a concrete, definite and profound conclusion that i actually have nothing to say...

This might be the best video you've ever uploaded. My only issue is.... If we pronounce the word "infinite" the way we do, then why can't we just say "finnet" for the opposite? We've been duped to say "fy-nite" which requires more of my mouth-hole to enunciate a 2 syllable word instead of "finnet" and I will forever be pissed about this.

Other day while getting ready for work monitoring the local gmrs repeater, there were two guys in their mobiles just chatting away using the local repeater, they were obvious within site of each other talking about some older land rover defender D110 series 3 that is owned by one of my neighbors, in my town and the guy or wife drives it daily, and its right hand drive and the female driving it so they were commenting on that and other things about adding to their jeeps , i'm thinking " wow using the repeater so close why are they not on simplex" .... All of a sudden the owner of the repeater got on and asked " why are you both wasting the repeater when your two cars apart? please move to another channel and use simplex " I died laughing ,,, the owners very cool just not fond of using the repeater needlessly to talk to someone when simplex could be used.

I am brand new to two way radios. I got my first radio a week ago. Maybe you or one of "those people" can tell me. I was under the impression that there were channels for repeaters and channels for direct radio to radio. In my area GMRS-16 and RPT-16 always announce the time or a morse code at the exact same time. does this mean a repeater is on GMRS-16. I checked the frequencies and they are different.

@TheNotaRubicon ... love your sarcastic-style ! ... would you please clarify this also to our collegues "Licensed Ham Radio Amateurs" please ... because ... i hardly hear any comms on the simplex channels ... they are ALL on repeaters (The Netherlands, small country i do receive 10 ham-repeaters) ... and 90% of what they say there ... has nothing to do with our hobby , it is just daily elevator-style meaningless blah blah 27 Mc CB-style ... allthough the bahaviour is much better the contents is not ... which is in turn an invitation for the unlicensed cause there's no serious talk anyway ... on repeaters i hardly ever hear anything related to building ham-stuff or actually doing ham-radio experiments ... etc ... So instead of confuckulating the newcomers ...you need to confuckulate the so called regular real licensed amateurs for this also ... From listening to the VHF/UHF amateur-bands we get the impression that real radioamateurism as it used to be is dead ... after they installed the antennas they have nothing more to discuss, so then it becomes a daily psychotherapy ... as in: not talking means i don't exist ... or to satify their endrocrine-levels (biology) ... ha ha. ... to me most is boring talk ... nothing of interest ... and nothing to learn ... maybe i'm to old for this ... The only reason i'm still there is because who knows i might need it when the SHTF.

I have no need or desire to use GMRS, because I have nobody to talk to that also uses GMRS. I have an old school flip phone for communicating with everyone that I need to communicate with. Then there is email. When I just want to talk to someone, about nothing in particular, I use the 2 meter and 70cm amateur repeaters. I DO NOT know anyone I talk to on these repeaters in person. I have only met them on the repeaters. Where I live, there are a LOT of 2 meter and 70cm amateur repeaters, and most of them are rarely used. I can talk on them to a person or group of people for hours. IF someone needs to use the repeater, all they have to do is break in, give their call sign, and let whoever is using the repeater know that they need to use it. Amateurs tend to be very polite, and have no problem allowing anyone to use the repeater as long as they need/want to. We take turns. If it is going to be a while, we can move a conversation (known as a QSO to amateurs) to another repeater. My radios can go from 5 watts to 80 watts, so I can use a lot of repeaters. An amateur repeater is basically a "meeting place" where amateurs get together to talk.

Obviously the spurious RF emissions are outputting hundreds, if not thousands of watts and that is causing your breakers to trip. Be sure to keep the radio away from any airports or hospitals as this could very easily bring down an airplane, stop pacemakers within a mile-radius, and disrupt life-support equipment anywhere within a few miles of you.

Just weird back in the 90s I had a CB put out 20 W in my old house. Never had a problem with that but anyway, thank you have a great day.

It is a shame because I like this radio a lot because of your videos😅

Back in the day, touch lamps were very popular. I had a radio that every time it was keyed, the light qould turn on or off.
