This is the leadership GRMS users needed. I've been trying to figure out how to organize RV'ers to use a standard GMRS/FRS channel for road travel for some time. I full-time RV and we're always on the road. I've wanted a way to communicate with other RV'ers or folks in traffic during our travels for a long time. I'm going to implement this as a standard around my circle of fellow RV'ers and ask my RV YT friends to spread the word.

Oh just what we need. A bunch of RVers talking on channel 19 about crap most of us don’t care about. The great thing about CB’s channel 19 is that it was for truckers. May be someone needs to officially designate a channel for RVers and leave 19 for truckers.
This is perfect! Easy to remember especially if you used CB. So, to get the word out, create a bumper sticker saying “I monitor the official GMRS travel channel 19” this way the guy behind you knows how to contact you if he is unaware of the official GMRS travel channel. Let me know when you have it on your merch page and I am in for two.

As a relatively new GMRS user from Michigan I feel strongly discriminated against since I am affected by both lines A and C. Therefore I may be restricted from using channels 19, 21, 27 and 29 because America bowed to Canadian pressure. Makes me want to drive 30 miles east, key my mike on one of these channels and see if they can catch me. Another January 6th in the making…
19 is perfect. Same as CB so I won't forget

We have 22 channels in Canada. No license required. Although there are power restrictions and can’t use radio’s with detachable antennas. I guess because they can easily be replaced with a high gain or adapted for mobile use. Using channel 19 makes sense easier to remember after using CB.

My favorite line from the movie that started my radio interest is from Smokey and the Bandit. "Keep them wheels spinnin' and those beavers grinnin' ". All transmitted on ch. 19, the truckers "chatroom" of the day. BTW, also started my love of the Pontiac Trans Am. 😍 They both have a high moisture affect.

Channel 19 it is! It’s about time someone with the gonads set the long-awaited standard. Plus, it’s a high-powered channel and, as you said, it’s easy to remember (even for us freq using hams). Oh, and did I mention, my GMRS repeater is on channel 18. 😉 Missed that bullet. Thanks again Randy, love your videos. And special thanks to the work you do on the recovery of the Salton Sea. “Everyone” should watch those videos as well.
CB is still alive and well, especially for talking skip which I really enjoy. But GMRS is so much more fun and love the ability to use node and repeaters. I always explain it as CB with ham technology.

The first time I saw one of your vids, I said...what a character...then it became entertaining. Now it is a combination of all of the above plus the benefit of the knowledge base. Great job.
As a former trucker I was very used to CB CH19. I have wondered about this since I decided to switch my pick-up truck to GMRS for off roading. Going to and from trails I've wanted to be involved in road communication.
Randy (and others), do you know if your recommendation to use Ch. 19 as the road channel has been widely adopted? I agree that it would be helpful if the GMRS community could come together on this. Keep of the great work, Randy. Tnx.
Randy, as a humble person within your kingdom will follow your lead in using channel 19. I live in the biggest city in Kentucky, and will spread the word. Thanks for your time, and great video as always.
I just cut the cord to my TV, cancelled Netflix, HBO, Showtime and blocked my friends who are "some people", and am not going through all of your videos. On the tablet that Moses dropped and broke it was written that channel 19 was to be used as the GMRS Official Road Channel. And the Roger Beep must be used!!!!!!!
Thank you for making great videos. I’m just starting and you help make it easy!
Could listen to his brilliant sarcasm for hours...... LONG LIVE CHANNEL 19!!!!
Hooray! Someone has finally stepped up to the plate and announced the on road gmrs channel 19, with off road channel as 16. The Ham world uses 146.460 as their off road channel - and I never hear anything on that frequency. I am really starting to like my gmrs so much better than my ham radio. So much cheaper and used 99% more than the ham radio. Plus the antenna never gets hit by tree branches.
Randy, we need car magnets!!!!! The rest of us need to socialize this on forums we use and elsewhere. Talk it up people. Small sparks become flames. Put it in your social media posts! DO THIS! It makes so much sense and honestly any channel defined, makes more sense than having none. Do it. Socialize this!

I live in MO and get North of "line A" trucking every week in MI or OH. I think if it going to be a full nationwide channel, 20 would work better so that you never need to guess if you're North or South of line A ever.

So simple it's scary. I'm glad that's solved. -- My only variation on this is that I transmit CTCSS 141.3. The reason being is that if anyone is monitoring that channel, but using 'travel tone' they'll still hear me. They'll also hear me if they're NOT using receive tone. I don't use CTCSS/DCS on my receive side, just on TX.

I think it's hilarious when someone asks a simple question and 20 hams all start arguing and giving the person 20 totally different answers...none of which pertain to his original question.
Since I have ventured into GMRS radio after most of my radio life involving CB, I have often thought that a GMRS community channel will be needed when most people eventually gravitate to GMRS so I naturally agree with using GMRS 19 as the travel channel. Also, I have used CB channel 16 for my off-road communications in the past because of the obvious 4X4 but I thought I had invented that! It must be true that great minds do think alike.

I agree, channel 19 is well known from the CB as being the channel to be on while on the road. It would only make sense to use it for gmrs as well. I disagree that gmrs is replacing CB. I have my scanners on all day and rarely hear anybody on gmrs. Once in a while I hear a couple of kids with their bubble pack walmart radios, but not very often. On my CB I hear all kinds of people, CB will never die or be replaced. Oh, I live by I-69 and never hear any truckers on gmrs, I did once hear Canadian truckers passing by (I live near Canada) and they were using a MURS frequency.
