If someone is in range of one repeater #1 and i am out range of that repeater, but in range of repeater #2 which range overlaps with repeater #1, can i talk to them? Or do we both need to be in range of the same repeater?

I thought for while I wanted to get my HAM license but dropped the idea when I learned you can use repeaters in GMRS. I really don’t have any interest in all the geeky stuff in the HAM world. I just want to legally use my radio. Got my GMRS license and a couple radios. Thanks for the guidance.

Just love this channel, I’m a general in the ham world and love it! (not a “sad ham”) but, GMRS is a very important part of our family farm. It’s so nice that all involved in our farm can use the repeater I put up for all the farm activities! AND I hope you all will join the GMRS family. It’s just handy and fun 24-7!!!!!

GMRS radios seem to be more convenient than handheld CBs. The CB HTs need really big battery packs or don't last long on what you can get, so you need a 12V car battery for power, but the GMRS HTs are efficient enough to use small Lithium packs. So my CB radio stays in the car. I only used my AA battery-powered HT CB radio to listen to the NOAA weather forecasts, until I got a digital emergency radio (KA600) and a cheapie FRS/GMRS. HT.

I dunno... I think, if I didn't understand this repeater stuff already, I might be more confused. Think you need a Carl Rove style whiteboard to illustrate some of these concepts as all the talk of channel sharing is hard to visualize without a visual aid. Also a demo of the squelch tail would've made that much clearer. But, enjoyed this vid, as I have all the others and I give you much respect for trying to help the noobs. I bet you've increased GMRS use in the US more than you know. I know you're the motivator in my case for sure.

Mister, I really like your channel, you make things seem to sound sort of "easy" with this sort of radio crap, I like that! I want to get me 2, maybe 3 GMRS ones, (maybe my 2 ":BUBBLE WRAP" ones, are them also, but after watching you, and others, so much, I shall want to get some others, also! Thanks

I'll chime in. I'm totally new to the GMRS community. Just got my license the other day. I've been online for a loooong time now. These computers have rewired our brains, along with things like microwave ovens, by making things available so quickly compared to how we grew up before that era. Same thing with the way people drive these days. It's not good and I try and read books as much as I can to offset the effect. I know your remarks are more or less in jest, but those are among the reasons why so many of us now have a short attention span.
