How/where can an ITD who has completed the equivalency process can do a post graduate program in a desired stream like endo/ortho in Canada?

Hi, Dr. Dutt! Graduates of non-accredited dental specialty programs interested in becoming licensed specialists in Canada can apply to take the Dental Specialty Core Knowledge Examination (DSCKE). The DSCKE is used by Canadian faculties of dentistry as part of the admission process for entry into Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Programs (DSATPs). Please note that there are very few positions available in the DSATPs. DSCKE results are automatically sent to Canadian Faculties of Dentistry that offer DSATPs. Applicants must be graduates of a dental specialty program from a university that is sanctioned by the government of the country in which it is located to award such degrees but is not recognized by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. The dental specialty must be one of the nine dental specialty programs recognized in Canada. You can find more information and checklists here: www.cda-adc.ca/cdacweb/en/. Unfortunately, Prep Doctors does not offer courses for the DSCKE examination.

Thank you for replying. Let me rephrase the question. I am dental graduate from India, I completed the direct licensing route and completed the equivalency process. Now I am working as a general dentist in Canada. I did not do any post graduation or spl. degree in my home country. But now after completing my equivalency process, I want to do a post graduate program here. Can you please tell me what are my options if I want to pursue a post graduate program here in Canada. If yes then where and in which spl. Thanks

@@vanshdutt2003 Hi, Dr. Dutt! In your case, you would need to apply to complete a post-graduate program in Canada. Many Canadian universities require a four-year Canadian undergraduate degree (either a Doctor of Medicine Degree or a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree) to be eligible for a post-graduate program. To accelerate the process, you can apply to an International Dentist Advanced Placement Program (IDAPP). But you don't always need a specialty degree to learn specializing skills. We always advise dentists to continue to enhance their skills through our Continuing Education courses like our Mastering Endodontic Fundamentals or Basic Surgery for the General Dentist.

Thanks again for replying. I have already done those courses offered by prep doctors. From what I understand ,since I don't have a DDS/DMD from here, I can't do a post graduate program program. So by completing the equivalency route, we can only practice as a General Dentist and can't specialize.

Hi, Dr. Dutt! No worries. Thank you for asking such valuable questions. Yes. By completing the equivalency route, you can practice as a General Dentist. You do have the option to specialize, it is just a longer process academically.
