When things go from bad to worse

Friday 26th April we found 5 dogs with diarrhoea all through the kennel. They were checked late last night but by morning we found the first symptom of parvo.
We immediately got them cleaned up and parvo tested.
4 out of 5 tested positive immediately, the 5th showed negative but it didn’t mean he’s not. He could still be incubating this horrendous disease.
We need help to save them, that’s 7 dogs down with confirmed parvo. Every vet said no, 2 offered to euthanise. It’s not their fault so we tried harder.
We found a vet nearly an hour away and they are going to start trying to save them. It’s going to be expensive we know.
We can’t give up, we have to fight for them when their owners wouldn’t. Please if you can spare anything, please help them fight. It’s too easy to say oh well we tried, it’s too easy to say it’s too hard and yes it’s hard but it’s only money standing in their way to start the fight but we need to raise some very serious money here.
We hate asking, I really do but I’m not doing it for me. I’m doing this for them because they deserve to live as much as you and I do.
If you can help in anyway, we can accept donations via;
Direct Deposit:

Dee and your staff you need to be commended for all your efforts to save these poor puppies, thank you for trying your best and not giving up! To all the vets who wouldn't help, I would just like to say, I cannot understand how can you be a vet and not have empathy for these puppies, you must be heartless and totally uncaring to say no, let them all die and really shouldn't be in such a caring profession. To the Clarence Town Vets thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, for being the only vet in that area of Australia who actually cares enough for animals to help to give those puppies a chance to live! Last but not least, thank you to everyone who can, or has, donated towards vet fees and medicines/plus inpatient care. The treatment is IV Fluids, electrolytes, antibiotics and often dewormer, along with care and love does not come cheap, but hopefully they will all survive, and will be found good loving safe homes too.

Totally agree, I volunteered for😢😢 a well known animal charity in NSW for 7 years, working in the op shop and with the animals. We raised an enormous amount of money in for our local area, thousands of $$$$. The shelter was closed and the money was taken by Sydney head office. There should be laws inforced on how this charity is spending the money raised by dedicated volunteers. 😢

How can a doctor, a trained medical professional decline to do their professional duty? Out of all of those vet the least they could do is figure out a rota where they would work together alternating which practices will take contagious cases at different times. Thank our lucky stars for the Clarence vets who will step up and work to save these little lives. If veterinarians refuse to help they are in effect amplifying a parvo outbreak. This is serious and not to be taken lightly. I wish I could be there to console you, Dee, and all the other wonderful people who work with you. I sent a little something yesterday and after the first of the month I will send a little more because saving these lives will take a long time and I'm sure the bills will continue to come in. Lots of love from me and my little troupe of furries. ♥♥♥♥💔💔💔💔

Oh Dee…this is so awful for you. Parvo is such a horribly infectious disease. I’m shocked that so many vets wouldn’t help you unless it was to euthanise these precious doggies who have already been abandoned by people who didn’t do the right thing by them as owners when they were in their care and have them inoculated against parvo! My prayers are with all of you and the pups. 🙏 Over 50 years ago my family and our vet nursed a tiny Boston Terrier mix puppy through Parvo and she survived! She lived to be quite old but had a leg that was at first tightly drawn up and twitched. The vet was amazed that she lived and recovered as much as she did. She always tried to keep that twitchy leg warm, lying in the sun or next to the heater vent. Over the next few years that leg continued to improve and she began to put weight on it occasionally. The muscles redeveloped, and the twitch subsided to just a tiny tic only appearing while she was sleeping. The vet was so impressed and amazed that he began telling his clients to keep their pets very warm and recommended a heating pad as they recovered from Parvo and he said he believed it actually did help them recover more fully. Thank God, Parvo in the USA is now uncommon in our pets.

Is the newest treatment, Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody (H69D) Invitrogen available in Australia? Apparently very effective. Costly, but then all veterinary products are. Vets are not charitable institutions, of course. But too many of them regard an animal as a means of increasing their bank balance. Tears and sympathy won't help - I'll donate again, but there is so little an individual can do. I hope many feel moved to help financially. ❤

Dumb question - is this outbreak a regional spike or is this happening across the many regions? I was thinking that you guys are probably not too far from the region that has been the proud anti-vaxer movement for decades. You can probably follow my pondering. There are definitely shit people who do shit things. But there could also be just a complete lack of knowledge. I only have a 10yo rescue cat. I had heard of the disease but absolutely nothing else until your videos. Anyway. I'll keep my fingers crossed 🤞 and set a reminder for my next donation ❤from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺 & a Farm member

We would like to add that after we recorded this Video that we had Singleton Veterinary Hospital did reach out to us and said they could take 2 of the pups to which we are extremely grateful. I will also point out that they did contact us prior to this video and not because of this video. So thank you Singleton Veterinary Hospital.

@debbiewbd2359 that's amazing. Sadly, it's not uncommon in many countries. I didn’t realize how bad Australia's problem was until I started following The Farm & then CCAC. Does Canada do a better job of breeder regulation?

No, here in Canada back yard breeders are a big issue. There is very little regulation and even less enforcement. However here in Ontario, in Dec, the gov't introduced a bill that will prohibit puppy mills, They will start to enforce record keeping by all breeders so that a dog's history can be traced, a minimum $10,000 - $25,000 fine for the death of a dog in a puppy mill. They intend to make it illegal to in-breed, breed a dog less than a year old, to breed a dog more than 3 times in a 2 year period, to breed dogs in filthy conditions and to separate puppies from their mother before 8 weeks of age. They will be increasing the number of Animal Welfare Services inspectors too. The major issues will still be lack of enforcement. Also, as there is no licensing required, they have no idea where these puppy mills are operating. When the public uncovers them, the law should be stepping in but they don't. etc etc etc.

They aren’t asking these Veterinarians to treat the dogs for free. They are not even getting someone to take them on as a paying client. This wrong Vets should not be allowed to refuse service for no reason.

I'd be interested in finding out WHY so many vets refuse. It has such a high survival rate with hospital care.

In cases like this you should contact vets in other countries also, if your country lets you down, go elsewhere! Try Viktor Larkhill, he saves dogs wherever he can and In Spain vets are really much better than anywhere else. Most countries do not care about animals, only humans matter because they vote, as for funding...We all know life is hell if you dont have a voice, right?! I hope one day people will realise that without animals we stop existing too.

Aside from requiring some down payment up front, because treatment is expensive, I don't understand why there is this level of trouble with a vet being willing to accept parvo patients. We get it in the States but we don't have this level of difficulty getting treatment for it. They are big on puppies getting their vaccines on schedule so that they don't come down with parvo since the vaccine is so much cheaper. With hospital care, Parvo treatment has such a high survival rate. I'm sorry you have had to fight so hard to get treatment.

You did not indicate why the various clinics and organisations would not help so I am guessing that funds previously raised have been used up. Vets are not so readily available as they were so it is not hard to imagine they could be more selective about their workload. As individuals, we supporters can only do a little each but a lot of individuals combined can raise thousands of $s. Hopefully, this weekend your local supporters, along with the Farm community will meet the financial need.
