When They Send You the WRONG Stove and It's AWESOME!!! - BRS-73 Three Star Burner

Once again, I absolutely LOVE remote canister stoves. They are so varied and available in unique designs. The story behind this stove is classic. I ordered a BRS wood stove from AliExpress and they sent me the wrong stove! Well, I absolutely loved this thing so I just kept it LOL.

Looks great... Especially for family big pot stew cooking... Only that my suggestion with this sistems it's to bring "O" rings to replace the ones which are in the line between the pipe fuel-stove connection (tools to do that job) and to put a metal plate under the stove, so if it leaks you won't burn the shelter, tent or what ever.

Probably isobutane. That is the modern standard for canister stoves. These types of stoves can usually also run on propane but at reduced efficiency. Isobutane has over double the energy density of propane and only costs around 30% more, so it's a greater value both in monetary terms and in carry weight. An isobutane stove can boil water in slightly less than half the time as a propane stove, while retaining the same total burn time per canister. This translates to more than double fuel efficiency. So if 1 pound of propane costs $7 and 1 pound of isobutane costs $10, your $10 isobutane canister is essentially worth the same as $14 of propane.

I think remote canister stoves are far safer in hotter and more torturous environments I've seen quite a few reviews of people blowing out cannisters and destroying their small canister stoves. All the stories share the same profile: it was hot weather, they were using a jetboil, they were cooking for a long time, or some combination thereof. The cannister cools itself because of the expansion of liquified gas, the stove heats itself up, and in turn heats the canister. Under ideal circumstances this balances out. When it does not, well things go pop. I for one will be using my remote canister stove during the summer. (if I can bring myself to leave my vintage M40 Swedish Trangia set at home hahaha)

This is a beautiful stove! One thing I'm afraid of is that it might melt my aluminum diffuser. 20 yrs ago, I was scalding food with an MSR SS cookset and the MSR Whisperlight International Stove. I used it on three motorcycle trips to Central and South America, one of which lasted over two years. It is still my main stove, I guess because I know the thing inside and out by now, and where we explored, gasoline was the only fuel option. At home, I made a large triangular base with locating dowels out of 6mm aluminum sheet, to prevent scalding of food in the pot. The plate added very little to the cook times, and the pots stayed clean on the bottom. I'm afraid though, that the stove you tested might start to melt the alum. plate. Do you know the temperature (°F) of the burning gas at the burner surface? The diffuser aluminum melts at about 1115-1120 °F. We now travel w/ titanium, aluminum, and/or S.S cookware inside the USA., but I don't want to go back to scorching my grub if I buy this new stove and it's too hot for my plate. Great episode! Very cool stove!

@@ridewitholdgrizz582 no, it’s a *gas canister* stove. That’s a particular thing that runs on gas cans, not a random bottle full of gasoline. All these camping stoves are the same and run on the same two or three types of gas cans. Butane, propane, or a mix, depending on your environment. If you want a gasoline powered stove you need a different kind of stove that includes a vaporizer, and also those are different fuel lines.

The "infrared" burners look just like a catalytic heater. On those you have a flame until the burner gets hot, then the elements glow red hot and you turn down the fuel until all you have is the glowing "screen" without any "flame" shooting out past it. At that point it becomes more efficient.

  • @SilvaDreams
