PaleoHikerMD

As the PaleoHikerMD channel has grown, my ideas about it have changed. In the end our channel is about a lifestyle. Being outdoors as much as we can whether it be hiking, backpacking, canoeing, etc...traveling as a family...finding geocaches along the way...all along home schooling our kids in an effort to make life and history come alive instead of just being on the pages of a textbook. Want gear reviews?...well we do those too! Self-Reliance is also big in our family, and on our channel you will find plenty of content detailing survival, bushcraft, and preparedness. Lastly, but certainly not least, we will bring you along on our continued journey into the Paleo Lifestyle. Your health is not what you inherit, it is what you make of it with effort and real change!

Real Food...Real Health...Real Family...Real Adventure!

If you did that with one of my knives you would end up going to the ER. Razor sharp means you can take your knife and hold it with two finger towards the back of the handle and lightly slide forward with one motion and it will remove all hair. The pressure you had to use and the multiple strokes you had to make to remove the hair on your arm is not considered razor sharp. The problem with edges being razor sharp is they don't last long. Loved your video but that specific knife you sharpened on this video is not razor sharp to my standards.

this would be good for those who need to keep certain prescription meds cold during a power outage, would be nice if it had an internalbatteery which wouldlet it run

Nice review Ernie. That music at 6:30 had me thinking of '70s movies love scenes haha. That's a cool product. And I see now that there's someone else making one that runs off of propane. Nice options. You could throw that nature hike in a backpack if you wanted to. Do a day hike or take it out on a motorcycle, not sure about that grill though. Cooking pancakes and eggs seems sketchy. Seems like a lot of manufacturers do that. They should just be flat imo

Thank you, Ernie! This looks great, can't wait to try it. What temp do you like for the oil, and how long do you cook each side? I wonder how these would be dipped into some sort of fruit salsa, like peach, pineapple, mango, or at least sprinkled with some Tajín.

Gday, I am no mountain climber so not worried about burn time at altitude or anything. After watching a few reviews it seems most penny style stoves are about the same really for the average camper, so i would put it down to how much you want to pay. That said high cost does tend to get you a better product. I was going to make one out of coke cans but i also needed a camp cook set. So when i saw a set of nesting pots and frypan that came with a stand and wind shield, all sturdy aluminium for 60 Aust i just got that. It burns ok, But i dont think the stove has much cotton or absorbant in the walls st least it seems to me that it should soak up more Could just be me. Burns for about 25 minutes.

I have this stove, but I never used the alcohol part, but the solid fuel with wind guard has worked for me. Use a wind guard ! In all honesty, I used it on 5 different 3 day Hikes in relatively good weather, but for a backup stove, it isn't bad, plus it was a Father's Day gift .

Earnie, thanks for expanding the scope of your channel! I would like it if you were to do a series on different backpacks, especially ultralight packs compared to heavier internal frame packs, at least in terms of comfort with the kind of loads you might carry on a multi-day trip. As a side, Coleman used to make a refrigerated cooler that used a Peltier junction cooler. I bought one in the late 90's for around $50 - $60. It was capable of keeping the temperature about 40 degrees below ambient, which saved a bundle on supplemental ice. It ran on either an A/C adapter or direct D/C from the car. I used it extensively when visiting Big Bend, where ice was fairly pricey, and when visiting Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. I don't know if they still make it, but given the price, it was hard to beat.

JMHO but this looks like a pain in the neck to clean. I don't understand why they didn't go with just a traditional v60 to where all you really need to do is take the filter out and throw in the trash versus making it two parts. That just looks like extra work to me.

Thanks Doc for the review. My wife and I picked up something much smaller than this for around $300. We use it in our SUV while pulling the travel trailer. We have had it about three years and it continues to work great even though it is a single chamber you can use it as a frig or freezer. Expensive yes, and heavy, but really works great and no ice to buy.

Within 3 minutes i knew he hadnt spent more than a few days "off grid' I went off grid in 1997... full time, several miles from the power lines. For the first few years i hauled ice. I saved and experimented a lot and eventuality bought a sunfrost fridge. Running on DC is far more efficient than converting to ac just to convert back to dc again. I own a 55 quart Mini fridge like this for camping. 2 77 watt panels keep it and everything else besides air conditioning of course. I use 1250 watts of pv and 450 watts wind power to power the house plus 110 watts of pv on the well. 13000 gallons of rain water storage supplies 99 percent of my water use

We went camping 2 weeks ago and a friend of mine had bought (another brand) of portable refrigerator/freezer and I tied it into my 100watt solar panel, 54 ah Dakota LiPo battery with 450 watt pure syne inverter. 5 days later it was like we were at home. It worked perfect. My point was, he did not know the power consumption and we were remote with no cell for us to look it up. You should be able to run it all night off a 600 watt portable power supply with ease. These things are great. Thank you for another informative video.

These stoves pay for themselves eventually, because you don't have to keep buying expensive gas cartridges for other stoves. Running on petrol is very economical. I've just bought an older version, as new ones are nearly £100 in the Uk.

Watching this at a year after, and I agree. I have the large cup, bowl, and platter. I’ve used the bowl and cup for both hot and cold meals, no issues at all. The cup holds a decent amount of heat in, much better than a metal cup. I have had wooden kuksa crack after some time when having very hot liquids in them. This one is still in perfect shape after many seasons.

We understand that it takes time to make honest review videos as opposed to regurgitating factory information to make a sale. Beautiful Bride brought three (3) great young'uns to our marriage and we are blessed with active four (4) year old. Much of the high end gear is super expensive where I took an early retirement in the Philippines due to import taxes and shipping costs. It is important for us to spend wisely as we equip our young troops. Thank you Ernie fior all that you do and generously share with your subscribers.

This is the problem with reviews that are just for the sake of a video review. Better to watch reviews from creators that actually use the item. They will figure out that the top arms can fold inwards to hold smaller cups, or that you can utilise the included grill for this too. They will also research enough to know to fully load the stove to get a decent burn time because if they don't, then no dinner or cuppa!!! 😅
