    Unbelievable second half by Juan Ayuso. Lost only one second to McNulty in the second half on wet roads while McNulty was the second fastest in this secture with good weather conditions. Ayuso has some really good descending skills (especially on the TT-Bike). Won the TT's at Tour of Romandie and Tour of Suisse last year in the exact same style where he gained the deciding seconds on the descent in the second half. Hopefully he has it again tomorrow on the queen stage. Will be a fascinating stage to watch! Looking forward to it👊

    I was thinking the same thing and was perplexed how Ayuso could lose only one second with so much descends on wet roads to Brandon but we never got to watch Brandon’s TT so I thought maybe Brandon had to slow or possibly over shot a corner and lost some time somewhere in the second half of the race. I wish we got to see more of Brandon’s ride. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔🦋💪

    Agree with you Chris about the production of the race. I'm Swiss but I wasn't very happy about my compatriots. They didn't show anything of Ayuso's second half where he was really flying. I can also remember a scene where Alaphilippe was on the way to a U-Turn and I wanted to see how he does this U-Turn on the wet roads. We know Alaphilippe as a good descender so I was very interested how aggressive he would ride into this U-Turn. But then the scene was cutted and they showed Koen Bouwman coming into the finish with a one minute gap on McNulty and I was yelling on the chesterfield how they can show the finish entrance of Koen Bouwman with a one minute gap while Alaphilippe rode this corner (especially because they could have waited five seconds before switching to Koen Bouwman).

    Exactly. Even during the prologue Julian’s pass thru the corners was only shown by Helicopter so we missed the viewing twice. Oh well nobody’s perfect. I wonder if McNulty had an issue somewhere in one of the corners during the second half of the race because it seems strange that Ayuso didn’t lose more time on the decent to the finish. 🤷🏼‍♂️🦋👍

    The way Ayuso spoke during Tirreno was revealing. He essentially was benchmarking himself against the best climber (Vingegaard) in the world. He is looking at Pogacar/Vingegaard. Part of UAE’s historic tactical problems stem from Ayuso seeing himself better than Almeida, McNulty, Vine or Yates. He is starting to establish himself as the second best GC rider at UAE. Today could solidify that for him. He is the complete package the question for a GT is, can Ayuso raise his climbing level another notch? He could yet win the Tour de France this year…

    The two 'hilly' ITTs at the TdF are going to be amazing with Pog, Remco, Roglic, Ayuso ...and, hopefully, Vingegaard putting it all on the line. Not to mention that Stage 21, which is the final stage, can potentially decide the overall winner.

  • @mikelloidi1545
    @mikelloidi1545Ай бұрын

    If a breakaway with no GC threats goes up the road, couldn’t UAE just let them go and let other teams do the work if these other teams want to go for the stage and time bonuses? If the breakaway makes it to the finish then that negates the risk of Ayuso having an off day and being beaten in the sprint.

    If you go back to the two mountain stages at Abruzzo I am not wrong in saying that Adam’s (and his UAE climbers Diego,Jan, Siv, at ) tactics were completely wrong at that race. I am very aware of his abilities and agree that he and his brother who is GT winner (Spain) are exceptional riders but the fact is at Abruzzo (which was not long ago) was a nightmare result and completely a clown show by the UAE team. Watch the summit finish stage 3 Plati di tivo and watch Diego just shaking his head in disbelief after Lutsenko won the stage. No way I want to trust the stage tomorrow to Adam alone in the break where anything could happen (flat, attacks,crashes) to him in the break when we know Ayuso is very good and will have Adam by his side and the whole UAE team to help solve problems together. 🤔🦋👍

  • @bendardania

    @@ChrisHornerCycling Chris, this is my point of view on this matter, people like Adam have the talent and capabilities to be GC riders for many teams but not good enough to be GC riders that win TDF. I won’t go into details of what politics, luck, wrong coaches, or whatever else could have played out during their development that they never achieve the top. Let’s be honest here, Adam Yates has accepted the role to be Tadej’s domestic but he is not just any domestic he and Stepp Kuss are some of the greatest riders of their generation that could easily be GC riders for many smaller teams but they have chosen to ride for the main teams where all they can he is domestics for probably two of the greatest riders since your generation. In order for these guys to be happy and motivated every now and than you have to organize the team around them and let them enjoy their moment of being the captain’s they probably very much think they deserve to be. I am thinking bing picture, but I could be completely wrong. Thanks for taking the time and explaining, I will go and watch the stages your recommended more carefully. 🙏

    I love these time trials. It is a bit of a shame that we will not see a lot of the big names later this year at the Olympics. On Europsport they explained how riders (nations) could qualify for Paris 2024... Apparently only the nations that did have a rider in the top ten of the TT World Championship from Glasgow 2023 are allowed to send two riders, and all other nations can just send one rider. On top of that the riders who participate at the Olympic TT must also race the road race.... These rules are so dumb... Because a nation like Switzerland can send two riders to the Olympic TT, but in the meantime that same Switzerland is not allowed to send more than two riders to the Olympic road race.... I can understand that Switzerland would love to send a rider like Hirschi to the Olympic road race, but that would mean that they do have to leave a great TT rider at home..... Because if they send Küng and Bisseger to the TT, they can't let Hirschi start in the road race.... These rules are so dumb. Don't we all just want to see the best riders both in the TT and road race ? Another example : Slovenia for example will now have to chose who they want to send to the Olympic TT, since they can only send one rider.... ☹

  • @ChrisHornerCycling

    @ChrisHornerCycling

    Too many riders would be there. The Olympic committee is about making money not necessarily about giving one a chance to race. They have the number they need for event to look fantastic and adding any more riders would just take more money from them. Just an educated guess but I bet I’m not far off. 😬🦋
