Hi Donnalouse. Hope you are well and I'll bet you are getting more excited as the World's get closer. I have never done a Pomegranate puzzle, as they are quite expensive so can't really comment on the quality of those. With regard to quality issues, I had read everywhere that Galison was excellent. I just received one (Seashells 2000 Piece) which has a lovely image but the quality was so lacking. Many strings of 2,3,4 pieces all together and hard to separate as some were not cut through completely. There were also some with crinkled edges which will probably not lay flat when placed. I also thought the piece quality was a bit flimsy but that could be because most of what I have worked on are Ravensburger or Clementoni. To add insult to injury Amazon didn't pack it well and the box lid, which is actually quite strong, was split completely down two of the corners. That said, I know people have wonderful things to say about Galison but I won't buy another.

@@heather6668 I may not have mentioned it too much but the Galison puzzle we used for the second Battle of the KZread Puzzlers was not my favourite. It was so glossy and I had many pieces stuck together which I couldn't easily separate. I'm also not eager to go out and buy another since they are quite pricey. I feel our Galison experiences were very much alike...unfortunately.

I have never had a problem with Pomegranate puzzles. I did have a one time problem with a Galison puzzle and they are usually great quality. Several pieces had no picture at all…just cardboard front and back. I left a review and said they needed to step up their quality control. And with another puzzle, don’t remember brand, I got extra pieces. We all remember what happened with the puzzle at World’s where Kristin had a block of pieces missing. I guess all brands have occasional problems.

Ive only done one Pomegranate puzzle and I really enjoyed it. It was called Russian River Rhapsody. I didn’t have a fit problem, maybe you got a bad run, but I’ve only done the one and it was checked out from my local library. When you mentioned piece thickness, I have a new favorite brand that has the thickest pieces, Trefl Prime. Trefl puzzles is good but their Prime line is amazing. So thick you can wave the finished puzzle around and it holds together perfectly. You can also move sections of pieces around and they don’t fall apart. Their puzzle called Constellations is so beautiful I think you’d like it!

I’ve done a few Pomegranate puzzles, they are ok quality wise, not my favourite though. As for Mike Wilks, we bought my Nan his Ultimate Alphabet book in the 80’s. It was brilliant. You had to find loads of things from a painting for each letter of the Alphabet. It was a competition and you could win a cash prize. I bought it again recently for my girls, they both love it. Some of the pages are available as jigsaws.

I did mean to mention that gauche is called gauche in English too, at least per the many KZread artists I follow. I have a trick I use for puzzle dust. I don't know that it would work for everyone though. Before I open the bag, I cut one of the corners off (just a small cut that pieces cannot fit through) and then I hold the bag so the cut corner is facing down and then I shake the bag over the box bottom so that I can catch all the dust for easy disposal. I then dump the dust and repeat the shaking to see if I am still getting more dust. Ravensburger takes a good bit of this process but it does get rid of the majority of the dust before you even open the bag. I'm sorry the Pomegranate puzzle was so bad. That is a very odd issue. It is almost like they made each piece individually instead of making the whole puzzle and then using a tool to cut it all at once. Have you reached out to them to see what they say about the quality of the puzzle you have?

That's a smart way to get rid of puzzle dust. I'll also seen people use like pasta strainers. And yes, it did feel like every piece was individually cut. Someone suggested that something happened to the puzzle after it was cut the caused the pieces to shrink/expand which messed up the fit. I didn't reach out to Pomegranate but think I will give them another try based on all the messages I'm reading here.

Hi Donnalouse - hope you are well - Just had another puzzle issue this time with the Ravensburger 5000 Piece Disney Favourite Friends one - there is a piece missing. I know i didn't lose it as I've worked on it at the dining table since opening it. Ravensburger site now says they can't replace single pieces due to changes in cut when they replace machinery etc. so I contacted Amazon who very kindly are allowing me to return it even though the return window is long past, I guess due to the fact that it can take some months to do these large puzzles. Such a shame to do so much work and enjoy doing it to find that there is an issue at the end. I always check the bag is empty etc so i have no idea what happened there. They are usually quite reliable.

Oh no!! I'm sorry to read you had a missing piece. Are you returning it for another copy? I mean, would you want to rebuild it? Or just for a refund? It's nice of Amazon to take it back. 💜🧩

@@fortheloveofpuzzles Hi and no I was going to sell it because I probably won't build it again. It's a lovely puzzle though. They are refunding but told me not to return it, so it was really good of them. I didn't expect them to do that - told them I would happily pack it up and return for the refund but I think it's that basically they can't resell it with a missing piece and they would have to pay the return courier etc. Probably not worth their while.

It might have gotten stuck to your hand or clothing and got moved to another room. I once found a piece in my pocket. I had a Ravens piece missing once, then I found it in another puzzle box 6 months later😂 Point is, keep the puzzle. You never know.

Have done 3 Pomegranates - no issues. Kind of a drag that you got a lemon. Promise I won't advise you to make lemonade ! Cliches can be so tiresome. Do you think visual artists use intuition predominately ? Are they excessively concerned with details ? If they have a You Tube channel I guess they have to ! Thanks for your excellence.

Such a shame about your experience with the fit :( I have 4 Pomegranate puzzles but have only done one. The fit was nice and tight with no bumps and lumps BUT it was an older Pomegranate puzzle. If you look at the older branding, it doesn't have a little picture of a Pomegranate next to it. Maybe their newer puzzles are of lower quality? I will have to complete one of the new ones I have to find out.

I currently own four thrifted Pomegranate puzzles, and while all of them say they were made in Portland, Oregon, only one of them has an actual pomegranate fruit shape within the logo on the box (like the puzzle you have). The other three only have a jigsaw piece in the logo and a different font. The one WITH the pomegranate fruit in the logo was the most disappointing in quality of the four I own. While I didn’t experience quite what you did, the pieces were slightly thinner (though still sturdy) and fit loosely compared to the three “fruitless” puzzles which had thicker pieces and a more secure piece fit overall. I only focused on the logos because of a video I saw a while back. If you go to about the 4:20 minute mark of this Victoria Boult video, she explains how she noticed the quality difference between logo types: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mZ6smJdrodHecpc.htmlsi=RB3xByEV9hzcUB_A I can’t say if this is true for all of their puzzles, but hope this helps!

Ah interesting. My Pomegranate was not made in the US. Did yours come in resealable bags by any chance??? I've heard of other brands changing styles/logos/manufacturing since the increase in demand from the Pandemic and that has lead to a decline in quality.

Yes, even though they were thrifted, 2 of the fruitless logo puzzles have the same type of resealable bag I believe to be what the pieces originally came in.

You seem to have had a rogue Pomegranate there. I have never had a fit issue with any of the Pomegranate puzzles that I have done. I got out one that is waiting to be done, a 300 piece Alice in Wonderland, probably an old one. I measured the thickness of a piece and it was 2.5mm. I would be inclined to get in touch with Pomegranate, send them a pic of the jigsaw you have done and see what they say. Do try another one perhaps a 500 rather than a 1000 one.

Reading through comments online and here, it appears that there is difference in quality based on where the puzzle is made. Mine was not made in the US and did not come in a resealable bag. I would like to try the brand again but only if I can get one that was made in the US - which may not be all that easy for me to find here.

A few questions for you since you've done so many - did yours come in resealable bags and were they made in the US? I read somewhere that there is a significant decline in quality for those in sealed bags and not made in the US. So I wonder if that is part of my issue. I would like to try again though if I can find another.

@@fortheloveofpuzzles I checked my puzzles and they all have resealable bags and they say “Printed in China.” I only have 1000 piece Pomegranates, so I don’t know if the 500 piece ones are different. The one disappointment I do have with them is the quality of the ink. While the pieces are wonderfully matte, the ink they use doesn’t seem very vibrant. My copy of Seurat’s “Sunday on the Grande Jatte” is so muted that it was difficult to assemble. Hope that helps! And get packing already!!!

I have done 1 of the 3 Pomegranate puzzles, Her Coat of Many Colors,. I tried this brand because so many people raved about them, and to their credit, they have beautiful images, but I was fussing to the high hill putting it together because of the fit and coming apart at the slightest touch. Disappointing experience for me, and I'm not driven to put together my other 2. I'm excited about your trip to Spain and all of the fun you'll have 😊 🧩✈️

@fortheloveofpuzzles Hmmm, I'm not sure about the difference of quality based on U. S. or not. I just checked, and all of mine have Portland, Oregon on them, and only 1 came with a resealable bag. Again, it's really too bad (for me) because I truly like the images, and it is a brand that is praised by many.
