When the 7M is Too Big - Kiteboarding VLOG #15

Спорт

Kiting in high wind / super gusty conditions - 30 knots gusting 40. As a storm system approached, the wind kept picking up and our kite sizes kept decreasing. It was a crazy Friday of kiteboarding in Toronto at the local spot with the local crew! Enjoy :)

It was actually gusting 52 knots, we have underscored the wind speed so people don't think its clickbait. On top of it was super gusty and turbulent wind, so imagine that plus offshore conditions :)

The wind speed itself is not a problem - it's the gusts. Kite surfing in strong wind is easier, as long as you have the proper equipment (kite size especially). But gusts are always a PITA - perhaps manageable but not very pleasant.

Yiimbob the nearest sensor recorded gusts of 52 knots that day, but the biggest issue was that wind switched side offshore and was incredibly gusty/turbulent. If it was smoother I bet some pro guys would of loved it. In our view it's better be safe then sorry :) thought love watching Dutch flying high during their storms

hey Sanisi, the squals that we get here, are unkiteable, we had guys from cape town come here being confident that they can handle it, then being lofted and thrown around. In fact one guy from cape town broke his ribs after being lofted with 50 knot gust, it just looks deceiving in the video as all of the wind is up top

sometimes it is too windy, unless you're sponsored by red bull :) but in this case the nearby sensor was recording gusts of over 52 knots with lulls below 20, so it wasn't only just unsafe, it was also not enjoyable. (gusty offshore conditions)
