Good explanation, so load the approach only and wait until they give an approach fix or you are headed in direction of FAF past all other fixes?

Hi Eddie, Loading an approach, does nothing but slap it to the back end of your existing flight plan. We activate the approach, when we no longer wish to continue along our planned route of flight and rather join up with and fly the approach. Think of activating the approach as bringing it out from behind the scenes into something we are going to use and fly now. A loaded approach does nothing for us other than confuse our ETE and FOD. This isn't to say we shouldn't load them (as they do very much reduce workload later on), as long as we know what loading vs activating approaches does.

@@AerodynamX Thanks for the explanation, 20 hrs into my IFR certification training so really appreciate your videos for ground study of the navigation equipment when I don’t have to worry about maintaining altitude and heading. 😊
