In this video in Microsoft flight simulator we go over the new feature in the g1000nxi and thats the vectors to final. So what is vectors to final and what does it do in the gps ? We go over that today in this episode and discuss 3 different scenarios that you would be on a vectors final approach. Some situations you may not want to use the vectors to final do to the issues of the g1000nxi. If you have any questions please post below i hope this video sheds some light on when to use vectors to final and when not to. Thanks for watching remember to subscribe and like the video!

    Great video. In the third example, an alternative to using OBS mode is to use Direct To via Course (013). This way we won’t need to worry about exiting OBS mode to resume sequencing.

  • @2020fsers

    @2020fsers

    Hey thanks for the comment and I understand what you are saying but when far away you really need the line drawn from you obs so you can line up with the loc. Otherwise if you do a direct to then If you are not lined up and way off to one side then the direct to will take you on an angle to the final waypoint but wont necessarily line you up before hand and you really need to be lined up on the loc before you get to faf.hope that makes sense .

  • @christophvz

    @christophvz

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@2020fsers In the direct-to window, you can enter the course inbound, which works similarity to OBS but doesn’t suspend sequencing. If you set the direct-to course to match the LOC, the magenta line will be lined up just like you intended.

    I also tried that first as that is how it's supposed to be used but on the version of the nxi that I was using the course did not match up when I entered it under the direct to. It was way off so I supposed it was a bug in that version it may be fixed now and can proceed in the manner you discussed . I haven't tried it lately so not sure .

    @@2020fsers No worries, it answered the question for me. The bit I was missing was the requirement to set the lowest altitude in the stack at the beginning. One question remains, how to correctly skip to a different leg of the descent profile and correctly activate a new descent to that point. So far i've must mashed the VNAV D(irect) button on the soft keys and that sort of works but I suspect that there's a proper way? Also, I was testing at EGNX which begins at a holding point and upon exit from the hold (it does one racetrack lap), I then have to re-activate VNAV. Defo earned a sub from me though :)

  • @2020fsers

    @2020fsers

    2 жыл бұрын

    So all you need to do is activate the leg you want I went over this in the vectors to final video. Or if you want to activate vnav to a certain leg highlight the leg and at the bottom soft keys you see vnav direct or something like that click on that to activate the vnav to the waypoint you highlighted.

  • @2020fsers

    @2020fsers

    Also yes vnav is not active during holds or procedure turns and you need to manage vs during a hold or procedure turn then re activate once exited. It will bite you if you forget.

    Thanks for the comment and questions so I think this Is the second scenario so in this the atc is vectoring us in between the 2 waypoint and if you activate the leg prior to the spot that you are vectored then the gps will not be able to calculate when you pass over waypoints. Always activate the leg that you are coming in on not the 1 prior.

    I do that exact thing with the Cessna 172 Garmin G1000 NXI on MSFS2020. However, I keep running into the same problem which is after the initial waypoint my GPS goes into SUSP state and doesn't automatically transition into the second waypoint. I'm a beginner so I'm sure I'm making a mistake but I've searched everywhere and couldn't pinpoint my error. Here's how I set it up into the Garmin G1000 (in that order) and perhaps someone could help me with this: I want to fly out of Sedona airport (KSEZ) to Flagstaff (KFLG) and I want to use waypoint FLG06 to then go left onto STRGHT approach then final on runway 21. -Origin: KSEZ runway 3 -Destination: KFLG runway 21 -Enroute: FLG06 -Proc -> Select Approach -> Visual 21-> Transition -> STRGHT -> Load -I manually change the altitude for the enroute waypoint (FLG06) to 8500 ft -I manually change the altitude for the STRGHT waypoint to 7500 ft - I leave the final waypoint to ~7380ft When I fly out of my airport I turn on autopilot with NAV and climb to 8500 ft. I turn on altitude hold then use my altitude selector and set it to 7000 ft to then turn on Vertical Navigation (VNAV) so that the autopilot transitions between altitudes while following the waypoints. When I get to the end of FLG06 and enter top of descent, my GPS says next waypoint (STRGHT) heading 270 and then it doesn't transition (doesn't turn left to STRGHT). Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Good Video, but I wanted to comment. When ATC "vectors" an aircraft to the final approach course, the aircraft is provided an altitude to maintain. "United 123, decend and maintain 5000, fly heading one niner zero, vectors to final approach course.......United 123, turn right heading two eight zero........United 123 turn right heading three four zero, maintain 5000 until established on final, cleared (Name) approach." Once that is done you MAINTAIN that altitude or descend on the approach, you are NOT authorized to climb. Therefore, when the NXI removed the altitudes, no biggie, they just don't apply anymore. You as a pilot will maintain 5000 feet (or assigned altitude), and then follow the glide path down, be it the Glide Slope, or the NXI provided RNAV slope. Those published altitudes no longer apply because the assigned altitude by ATC overrides.

    I hear what you are saying but if you are vectored before the faf you will have no idea of the flight restrictions to follow and you also will not know when you are passing each waypoint because the distances are also blanked out until you get to the faf so unlsess you like to map fly or do a bunch of math in the air to figure out where you are to the waypoint you won't know when crossing each waypoint up until the faf. And if atc says to follow the approach chart unless you are looking at the chart for the flight restrictions you won't have them either until the faf. Not to mention again you won't know when crossing the waypoints to follow the flight restrictions Accurately. I hope this makes sense .

    First, the pop-up animations are truly annoying and add zero value to the video. Secondly, the example chosen is also a little confusing. Where does CUSTD fit into the picture? Then after telling us NOT to use Vecor to final, you carry on with "one of the other cool things vector to final does"... It is quite clearly that it is two separate recordings, probably not in the right sequence. To be honest, I lost interest after that.
