I think the new defender is the true successor of the old range rover. Comfortable but still rugged enough and still kinda affordable. No clear successor to the old defender to me. Maybe the Suzuki Jimni for being small yet capable.

I don't know why but when both the RR was offloading it put a smile on my face

As a Range Rover owner I can say that what does limit their "off road" performance is the overall low clearance and 20" or larger rim sizes that give you no sidewall to use for airing down, rim protection, etc. This Range Rover is in its off road height but the tires are not stock and much bigger filling up the wheel wells. The tires have a least double the sidewall height of the factory rubber.

Perfect, honest comment. Same can be said about the new land cruisers too. Its about converting to an acceptable off road specification. My FJ cruiser would be "acceptable" I guess?

@@alexclipper7608 I have a 2012 L322 with a lift kit and 32.5" tires.....in the "off road" height setting it has more belly pan clearance than my friends brand new Jeep 392 with 35" tires. There are two types of clearances...under the "differential" and belly pan or rocker clearance. One of the highest factory belly pan clearance vehicles is the Toyota Tacoma & 4Runner...especially the previous generations from the current one. My wife's 2019 Ranger Rover HSE has very low clearance at the rocker panels, even in the off road setting. It really comes down to what somebody considers "off roading"......deep ruts and sharp drop-offs or step climbs will high center a lot of stock vehicles.

I know it's a show but man the pain I felt as the car was banging against the rocks.😬

Highest setting has no suspension travel, it's really only for getting unstuck.

Notice it's on very aggressive off-road tires. Land Rover doesn't offer off-road tires on any models they have.

A beast of a machine. British engineering, still up there among the best in the world.

@@gianlucafalco737 Only that you are choosing to live in the past. Both vehicles were real Range Rovers. Just from different eras. The best ever vehicle off-road is the horse. It could even do autonomous driving long before the vehicles of today and had incredible towing capabilities despite only being 1hp but you could use as many horses as you needed to tow. You might like to go back to using horses. The only downside is that none came with a roof or an infotainment system but they were and are still known for being very lovable.

First things first. Tire are offroad spec. So if u think you could drive one out from the showroom and do that, then forget about it. Plus make sure u have underbody armor or all those bits will be f’in expensive to fix… Having said that, kudos to JLR for making such a capable vehicle.🎉

land rover have moved the air intakes above the hood line and placed them in a spot which doesn’t allow direct access to where water would be if driven like the way it was in the video

As capable as it might be, I can't get on board with huge alloys and this modern dependence on "driving modes". I'll take a an 80 series Land Cruiser with ARB lockers, a set of BFG 33s wrapped round 16" steelies and decent ground clearance any day. And have about £80,000 change. I'm sure I'll be hated for this but the old saying is true: Want to explore the wilderness drive a Land Rover. If you want to come back again, drive a Toyota.
