When Play Dates Go Wrong | How The Other Kids Live | Episode 2

Children and their parents are set-up on 'blind playdates' with families in their area they have never met before....Some parents love them, others loathe them, but playdates are a part of modern family life and speak volumes about who we are, where we live, how we parent and how we differ from each other.
In Bristol 8 year old child Lily lives with her single disabled mum and wants to find her soul mate. 10 year old Isis splits her time between the homes of her separated parents Tim and Sarah but wishes they could all still live together. Piper (who is also 8) lives with her both of her parents and little sister Sienna in a designer house in an affluent suburb and wants to be an actress.
Despite being confident and lively, Lily has struggled to make good friends as she doesn’t like leaving her mum on her own. Her dream is to find a soul mate.

He did a great job and made sure to explain to his daughter that not everyone comes out of their shell so quickly for all kinds of reasons and she listened to him . I thought that was great. Piper was nervous and my have some anxiety issues which makes you overthink things and then can make you a bit overly sensitive and she also may be a bit introverted too. but her mom seems to know that and they seem to be working on it. It can be hard as a kid to put feelings in words. And those little girls immediately went to get an adult and tried to talk to her and make her comfortable.

Yes, this is true. Piper's mom seems to be an unhappy person, and her family seems emotionally dysfunctional, which often happens in families with wealth where women become economically trapped in a controlling relationship with a husband who makes good money. It's telling that Piper was trying so hard to form a friendship with and impress Isis' dad while virtually ignoring the other girls. She had to learn how to be a girl among girls, which is good but sad at her age. That family is not healthy and Piper's mom knows it but seems unable to do much about it. I hope for her sake and the sake of her daughters that she is able to gain the courage to assert herself enough to not doom her daughters to her own situation down the road.

Its heartbreaking what lily is going through, she mentioned a lot of times how she was not with her mother when the accident happened its like she thinks she have to be with her mother all the times to keep her safe. She is in need of an adult support to watch after her mom and that is part of why she misses her dad. Children should be children they shouldn't act mature than their age, cause you get to be a child only once.

I felt so sad for her, she is just 8 years old and she told: "it is important to be a child because I am growing up too fast." She really needs her father for everything. It is a huge responsibility for a kid to take care of her mother.

Lily is going to accomplish a lot in her life. She's learning wisdom. She's profoundly grounded. She's planning for her future in a realistic way, not the fantasy way that Piper is. Her mother is an amazing mother, under the circumstances. It's hard to watch kids have to live with adversity and undue responsibilities for their age but that crucible has produced many of the world's greatest accomplishments. She seems the most emotionally and psychologically healthy and stable of the three.

Everyone in this show is so empathetic, caring, and mature. I love, love, love how they humanized everyone - they could have made “the rich parents” the villains or Lily’s mom a victim - but all the parents defy easy stereotypes. These girls are being raised to care about other people and honor their own feelings. Really well done to everyone involved.

Lily is quite mature! She grew up quick to take care of and assist mum. I understand Piper. I often feel that way. She is able to articulate her feelings, but at the same time hold it in and "stew" on it which puts you in a cycle. Isis too is mature and I think it's because she has two homes and that is a completely different lifestyle requiring a different emotional skill set. I love how both Isis and Lily rallied around Piper to help her through her "hiccup" of the day.

Omg those girls were so sweet to the one who was nervous. "You want to go have a speak with your mum?" "Think about unicorns and fluffy things" I wish my little girl could find a friend so sweet. I would trade a sweet girl for the vicious competitive boy that visits next door any day. I can't stand that kid.

She really shines once.she felt comfortable. Lily is wise beyond her years, and every in tune w/ her feelings. Such a nurturing, and loving person. Isis is adorable, and her confidence actually inspired the other 2 to have fun, and play, but she's still very mature, and sensitive. They're all very well balanced, sweet girls. I hope they have many many more years of play dates, and fun together.

The little girl Lily touched my heart so many times in this video, she has a beautiful soul and a way with words and I can see that her mother has and will continue to impact her life and identity in amazing ways. She's exactly where she should be. Of course it'd be easier if her mother was well, but sometimes the most beautiful things grown from the muddiest of situations.

This is the most moving episode out of the 3. Because there's Piper; who has 'everything' and a good childhood but feels insecure about herself in making friends, then Lilly; a devoted daughter, young caretaker of her mother, but confident in herself and mature, then there's Isis; who's inquisitive and caring, confident of herself as well, but suppresses her longing to have both parents at the same time. All 3 girls have good values, sweet, very well-spoken, sensitive and just great personalities! I am so happy to see their play, I think it was perfect to end it with that! And big hand to Tim, Isis's dad for being damn awesome, took the initiative when he figured out that Piper's the one who was left out and did something that made her feel confident in just one day! I love it. What a wonderful dad! 👏 👏 👏 I hope these girls stay friends for life!

Isis' dad is the man!!(all the parents are lovely not just him). When Piper was talking about her future marriage/life plans and how he was just beaming ear to ear about her opening up and just doing everything to make everyone feel included. I love the idea of a couple set activities to "break the ice" even though they have met before. Sometimes it can be awkward in the beginning trying to figure out what to do/talk about takes a little while to get comfortable enoughso having a couple of activities ready to go is awesome. ☺☺

Yeah, I love that kids now consider relationships with the same sex to be normal. When I was a kid, I didn’t have any examples of it around me and that caused a lot of confusion and self hate as I grew up, because I thought I was weird. She may very well not understand what she’s saying, but I doubt it, considering how smart she is. Kids know who they are a lot earlier than people think. looking back, I knew who I was in elementary school, but I just ignored it because I didn’t want to be different. Now I just don’t care lol
