I had a drug addiction that lasted 2 years. When I got my dog, I immediately quit. She would look at me like "What are doing in the bathroom for hours, when you have me?" Like I said, I immediately quit and genuinely believe she saved my life, as I had overdosed several times prior to having her in my life. She is 13 and I have been drug-free for 13 years. Bless you sweet girl!🐶

I did the same. I had enough money to get my heroin for maybe a day, or enough so we could both eat all week and the thought of her hungry because of me was too much. Gave up right then. My Mum said she wished she'd got me a dog years before 😂

My dad rescued a kitten who was lost in a blizzard back in 1997, and she was extremely loyal to him her entire life and concerned about his health. He often would nap in his chair but when he developed sleep apnea and would stop breathing while he slept, she would nudge him enough to wake him just enough so he'd start breathing again. When she passed on, she was cremated with her ashes saved, and then was buried with my dad when he passed several years later, because they loved each other that much and had effectively saved each other's life. Edit: Thank you for all the likes and replies. (12/12/22)

@Stephanie Morton: It certainly was to see their mutual love for each other. She was a seal-point Siamese, and he was definitely a cat person (Mother was more a dog person) and she was definitely HIS cat (although I loved her too, not only based on her initial rescue) We never did find out why she was out in that blizzard when she had obviously just been weaned from her mother. He named her Muttley. *Edited for clarity.

@@jacklow9611 the kitten might’ve been dropped off by someone. I’ve known of a lot of ppl doing this instead of finding them a home or who can’t find them a home. Some do it to an entire litter, and some get a kitten then realize they don’t want it. Anyways, sweet story, I had a solid white cat w/blue eyes that got me thru the most difficult times in my life (health wise) so I get their bond. Recently put mine down for health reasons…it was tough, but I couldn’t be selfish and keep him alive just to satisfy my own needs.

I had picked up a red nose pit bull in the middle of a busy street several years ago. After not being able to locate her owner we named her Sweetie and kept her. One day we noticed she kept bumping her nose to my husband's back and we just thought it was strange and it didn't think anything of it. She continued this behavior and one day when my husband was at the V.A. hospital for some tests it was determined that he had kidney cancer. We told the Dr. about Sweetie's behavior and she said that some hospitals use dogs for that purpose, early detection of cancer. I still can't get over her doing that....She was always a fantastic pet...We miss her so much. She died of old age and heart failure. Animals never cease to amaze me.

I have a rescue dog, who decided that he wanted to save a tiny little kitten after its mother was killed by a car, so we also have a cat.. My cat is EXTREMELY PROTECTIVE of my dog, he stands there and guards as my dog eats or sleeps, and my dog is extremely protective of both me and his cat buddy.. My dog even jumped in front of me when I had a knife pulled out on me and got stabbed protecting me from getting stabbed, he survived and is doing really well now and is even more protective than ever..

A neighbour’s dog ran into our front yard, growled & showed it’s teeth to my son & Spooky jumped on its back, dug his claws in as the dog did 2 laps around the front yard yelping all while Spooky held on then the dog took off out the gate. My dad brought home a polish sheep dog puppy that had been tossed over the fence of the dump yard where he worked. We named him Floppy, and when he was about three, and myself around five he broke through a window to get to me when a strange dog tried attacking me in our front driveway. He got the dog off of me and laid on top of me growling and snapping at the dog when he tried to come back until my dad got to us from the garage. Floppy would not get off of me until my dad came to pick me up after making sure the dog had run off and wouldn't let my dad get in the truck with out him. He laid with his head in my lap while I cried and taken to the doctors. (Only three stitches!) He was incredibly protective of children and never hesitated to put himself between us and a threat. He lived to the ripe age of fourteen and passed cuddled up in front of the fire with our three cats. RIP Floppy the Glass Shattering Hero

In 1978 I was 18 and my neighbor asked me to dog sit his lab mix, Patches, while he was away. That evening as she and I were outside a car pulled up and two men ran toward me! Patches rushed toward them growling loudly, scaring my would be attackers away! As their car fled I heard one of them yell "You're lucky lady!". I'm much older now yet I'll never forget that beautiful girl who saved my life on that dark night! I'm tearing up as I write this! She was a truly great friend, a truly great dog! RIP Patches! I had Cocker Spaniel before. He was 15 years old, could barely see and barely hear anything. One day, my sister was walking back home from me with her kids, she lived 2 miles away. Suddenly aggressive German shepherd approach them and my small dog, runaway from my yard, catch up with them and attacks that German shepherd, driving him away. Then he accompany them all the way to their home to make sure they are safe, and then return home. Absolute legend. Also, he didn't get along with my cat, but he did protect her from other dogs. When I had freshly graduated High School, my mom was a teacher and she, unfortunately, still had to go to work so that left me alone all day Mondays through Fridays. One Particular time I had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room, I was startled awake when someone started banging on our front door like I owned them money. This person really wanted in my house, or for me to answer the door. I sat up and froze, I was so scared I didn't know what to do. I was home alone. I couldn't get up and get the phone because they would see me from the window by the door. In come my two barely two years old, half mastiff, half husky dogs. Brutus stayed at the door and barked to let this man know that there was at least ONE large and very angry dog inside this home. Alexandria came to check on me, give me a kiss, and then she went to go bark at the door, and then would come back and check on me, then back to the door. And she did this little back and forth until the man stopped banging on the door and left. Never knew who that man was, never knew what that man wanted. But it couldn't have been good. He never came back, either. Thanks to my Alex and Brutus he didn't try to break in beyond banging on the door. Alex died in October of 2019 due to complications with her Diabetes. I miss her dearly. And Brutus is still alive and managing with his liver cancer, but still a very very very good boy and he is always by my side. Even right now. I hope you enjoyed my story. Might not have have been as life saving as all the others, but I believe it still has merit.

I raised a kitten. We were really close. When I was outside. She kept a perimeter around me. If another animal came within the boundaries. She would be real cool. Then leap into action. Then smooth her way back. An obnoxious in law came by and started to play fight. All in fun. Just messing with me. So I warned him to stop. He didn't . Samantha stopped him quick. She was a loving smart cat. Kind to everyone. But a protector from harm to all. When she had kittens, she would carry them to the dog house and get the Golden Retriever to babysit them while we worked in the yard. At the end of the day. She'd bring them back into the house. All cleaned up. Then at night. She'd put the kittens in the bed beside me. And carried them back to the clothes basket while I made coffee in the morning. Damn I miss her. So many stories I could tell about Samantha.

I had a golden retriever/German shepherd mix. One day, as a kid, I decided to go down the street to a friend's house. My dog wanted to go with me, but I left him, as I planned on going inside my friend's house. I had always gone through the backyard of this friend's home to knock on the door. This particular day, I was already halfway across the yard when his female husky came from the corner of the yard growling and baring her teeth. She was a couple feet in front of me & I knew I would have to defend myself. When she finally lunged, all of the sudden, MY dog came through my legs from behind me. I have no idea how he got out of the house or how he knew where I was, but he saved me from injury. To this day, he's the best friend I've ever had 🐕🥰

my family’s cat Esme was this big weather-beaten tux cat who strolled up to our driveway one day and never left. Every time I took my siblings to the neighborhood pool, Esme insisted on following us and laying by the pool’s edge, even letting the kids pet and snuggle her no matter how soaked she got. When we would practice diving for pool rings and other toys, she would pace anxiously back and forth at the water’s edge, meowing loudly at our mom who watched us from our front porch across the street Cats are awesome. Nobody can tell me they’re heartless.

We had a sweet, docile, loving shepherd husky mix that loved everyone she ever met. One day I walked outside with her because I saw my husband pull up in the driveway. He left his car and was at the mailbox at the end of the drive by the time Micha and I got out there. She looked at this guy at the mailbox and went into full-on Cujo mode. Her hackles were raised from neck to tail. She was in a guard stance and barking more viciously than I ever thought she could. My husband yelled her name to get her to stop, but it wasn't until he was close enough for her to smell him that she realized who he was. It was funny how embarrassed she was, and she started fawning all over him and wagging her tail. That was the day we realized that we had an amazing protector. Best dog ever. ❤

He's a loud PITA, but I've never seen him protect anything, except one night, my husband thought it would be fun to pull on a clean face covering snow hat he'd just pulled out of the dryer, and come up the stairs, saying, "I'm a robber, arg," like Shrek. To me he sounded so goofy. To our gsd, who was 4 at the time, he sounded like someone that didn't belong. My husband said he saw the face of God for a second and couldn't pull that mask off quick enuf. He thought he was about to be mauled. Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people because an upsetting event occurs in their lives taking them by surprise, unexpectedly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death. While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the war, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes. Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way. It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it.....

We had a lot of bad people (Sex offenders mostly) right down the road so having that dog always with us definitely made us feel safer. One time he wasn’t around this guy in a suv slowed down and rolled down his window, we were all quickly backing away when Goober came out of nowhere growling and barking, he got in front of us and stood ready to attack. Safe to say the guy left quickly. He got hit by a car a couple years later sadly, Sure do miss him

He will generally ignore us most of the time, probably because we don't let him do some of those annoying cat behaviours, such as going on the kitchen counter or climbing the drapes. Despite this, he still protects us. Every time I walk to the corner store, he will walk to the top of the street with me. Then he hides. When I return, he will jump out from his hiding place., scaring me and making sure that I have returned at the same time. This happens every single time !!

There's literally a true crime situation that happened & the killer was caught on camera confessing & one of the things he said was 'her dog just lay there watching as I killed her'. A dog is the most likely to protect you but those odds are still few & far between.

My daughter is 38 now. I named her Cheryl after my sister who died 3 and half years before I had her. When she was 3, my Mom and stepdad (my daughter called him Grandaddy) took her on a roadtrip in their motorhome with the dog, her name was Francie. She was 11 years old, we had her since she was 8 weeks of age. One night while they were sleeping Francie was licking my Mom and whining and pushing on my Mom to wake her. Then my Mom heard wheezing coming from my Cheryl. It was Cheryls first asthma attack. She spent 3 days in the hospital. Francie saved her life. Francie was always guarding Cheryl and trying to keep strangers from getting near her since she was born. Cheryl still has asthma.

I had an experience very similar to the number one story, so similar its scary. I once had a Black Lab named Reggie. Even though I never had any classes on how to train dogs I trained him beautifully. So good was his training I could walk him without a leash and he would never stray from my side unless I gave him permission and would come back to me when I pointed to my side. One Day I was doing electrical work under my house. For some reason something about this scared me beforehand and told me to bring a my machete with me. Reggie, who rarely left my side, also followed me. I was flat on my back, pushing a wire up though a hole, when I heard a rattle I never heard in real life but only on TV. I knew it was a rattlesnake. I froze and cautiously looked towards the rattle sound and sure enough there was a rattlesnake curled up ready to strike. Suddenly, I heard the growling of what I thought was vicious wolf ready to pounce. But then I thought I was in the middle of a big major city and my yard had a huge fence so that was impossible. I tilted my head back to see my normally calm docile Lab companion, Reggie, very angry, poised to attack, and growling at the snake. I never seen him like this. I heard the dogs fur stand straight up when angry but I thought that was a wise tale until that day for his all his fur was standing straight up. Well he distracted the snake long enough for me to me to kill it using my machete. I then left the work undone and immediately came from under the house. Then I gave my dog lots of hugs and even kisses. Sadly this all happened in the early eighties before taking video was popular so no video. Because of I had no proof no one ever believed me. But I will always remember that day and the loving actions of my dearly departed friend that saved my life.

My old dog did actually save my life last year according to the doctor who was taking care of me when I came down with COVID. I had been sick for a week with it and was home alone because I was told to quarantine for 10 days and then I could go back to work. However, I was too sick with it and actually got worse. I got to where I could barely turn over in bed or take a breath. I couldn't eat or drink because the coughing was so bad. Everything kept coming back up due to vomiting from coughing so hard. So food, water and my medicines didn't stay down. My old dog, Meaty, kept coming into my bedroom, climbing up on the step stool that I use to get into the bed because it's so tall, and he kept sticking his head under the covers, licking my toes and pulling on the blankets. He was relentless. He stirred up the cockatiel Indie bird and got him squawking. Between him and the bird, I did eventually get up, although I had to crawl once I got out of the bed to keep from fainting and that had already happened 3 times. I let him out and fed and watered him and Indie and went back to bed. He did that twice a day the whole week I was home before I ended up hospitalized, having too much difficulty breathing because unbeknownst to me at the time, I had developed pneumonia on top of the COVID. Had Meaty just left me alone, the doctor said I would have died because when I was brought into the hospital, I was in respiratory failure. I still have that silly old dog. He's still annoying for no apparent reason, but I still love his silly self. He was born here like his father was and he will die here of old age like his father did. His father was 21 when he died. I imagine if he's anything like his father, Fatboy, he will be with me maybe 5 more years. It will be very heart breaking when he leaves. 😢

Years ago when my now teen daughter was in about 2d grade, we were waiting for the bus in our front yard. Shadow was our Aussie shepherd puppy’s. Large at 2, she was in our backyard. A man came walking his two golden retriever. One bounded off the sidewalk toward my daughter. My sweet Shadow, normally very gentle, was at the fence instantly, hackles raised, teeth bared and growling deep in her chest. I told the owner he best move his dogs to the opposite side of the street as Shadow wasn’t leashed and our three foot fence wouldn’t have been an obstacle if she felt like jumping. My gentle Shadow was going to go to war to defend my girl. She’s old now…but still a loveable warrior.

I had a weird experience with a hummingbird. We have hummingbird feeders around my house so it’s not unusual for hummingbirds to be zipping around the house chasing each other off to defend a feeder. However, one day when I went outside a hummingbird came right up to me cheeping away as if trying to give me a warning. There was a garden snake just a few feet away. Although the snake was of no harm, it was still pretty cool to see the hummingbird trying to warn me about it.

I was feeding my chameleon and tripped over the trash bin stepping backwards because I'm super coordinated like that. Knocked my head on the concrete floor and my magic LSD lizard climbed out of his open terrarium down to the floor (which chameleons as arboreal lizards don't like being on the ground), left the room went up the carpet stairs, and into the kitchen where my mother assumed I just hadn't shut the enclosure door properly and went to put him back. Only to find me out cold on the ground. He's always been abnormally attached to me and I'd freakishly smart for a lizard. I've taught him simple tricks, he can use puzzle toys. He also knows the routes to two of my friends, the vet, and the pet store I get my feeders. You can see his head turning to the next turn in the route from his perch. It's kinda funny cuz I'll sometimes take a wrong turn deliberately and he turns to look at me with angry face.

As I was tinkering around, their dog Sheena, a somewhat medium/small Sheltie mix was following me around. Although there was tall grass in the surrounding area, around the cabin it was mowed relatively short. Sheena is on the porch, I'm just inside the screen door. I'd been walking around the place not concerned about snakes much. She starts barking, which she often did at sounds in the surrounding area. I'm like "there she goes again, but let me check". I look through the screen door and thought it was odd she was looking down and barking. I go out and look and don't see anything. I'm like "you goofball dog!" Then, I look closer at the short grass and see something sticking out a bit. Well, it was a four foot rattlesnake, biggest I'd ever encountered, outstretched in the grass. Hardly visible except for that rattle sticking up. I would have probably not have seen it and my have walked in that area had the dog not alerted me

My two cats; Bootsie and Ginger Girl saved my life in 2008. I had returned from a night driving cab and climbed the stairs to my Apt. I reached the top and felt overly tired, I sat down on the landing after opening the door, I had laid back and Bootsie jumped on my chest. Ginger Girl madr it halfway down the stairs and let out avery load yowl. The sound was amplifird and alerted my neighbour who called 911!

I have a rescue dog that was rescued from a violent household. I won't mention the race of her previous owners because that has nothing to do with them being violent, but every time anyone comes anywhere near me of that race or someone she thinks is bad she runs rings around them barking and stopping them from coming near me. If they don't move she will start snapping at them until they retreat. She has never actually bitten anyone but she is fiercely protective of my husband and I. There is nothing like the love of a good animal. If you treat them well, they will forever love you but if you hurt them you can't be surprised when they attack. She is a staffy and the most gentle soul at all other times.

Me and my ex husband rescued a puppy from the dumpster. Someone had left her there and she was starving and dehydrated and covered in ants. I picked her up and started getting the ants off of her and getting ant bit myself several times. I took dog home, got her feed and watered..she was doing great. About a month later, i was out of town for a doctor appointment and my ex was at our property, cleaning up to get ready to move our mobile home on the property. My ex said the puppy started barking and standing in front of him and he looked down at his feet and there was a timber rattle snake curled up ready to strike. Instead of biting him, the snake bit the puppy and a few minutes later, the puppy died. If it had not been for the puppy, my ex would have gotten bit and probably died because he had no way to get to hospital and by the time he could have gotten to his phone, he probably would have died. We saved the puppy's life and she thanked us by saving my ex's life. God sends angels in different forms to protect us.

I was walking on a high mountain near the top when I rounded the trail a massive cliff opened up.. I was suddenly looking at a thousand feet of air to the ground. It made me dizzy and I started to fall towards the cliff. Didn't know that was a thing, I had nothing to grab there were no bushes or anything. At the moment of balance where there is no turning back my dog Sammy who I had on a leach ran up a very steep hill as hard as she could and it pulled me back. She lived 13 years, thanks Sammy ❤ couldn't imagine a world without dogs teaching us what unconditional love truly means.

The Doberman kept coming to me hitting me with his nose then running away, after 10ish mins I followed him, and I saw the shih-tzu in the bath unable to jump bk out. The bath was empty btw. Before this happened I would have said this hypo dog that does not keep still even after his 2 hour walks, would never be able to alert us to ANYTHING. Such a good baby looking out for his older brother 🖤🐶🐶🖤

My dog spaz was my hero. I had fallen on my back porch and couldn't get up. Everyone was upstairs so i just kept screaming for help until hopefully someone would hear me it was winter time to so i was getting pretty cold. Well after 10 mins of yelling for help my dog spaz came to the back door. I said go get daddy spaz mama needs help. So he ran to the bottom of the stairs just kept barking, and barking. Finally my husband came down to see why he was barking, so my dog led him to the back door and my husband helped me up. Spaz was so excited he knew he was a good boy helping his mama out. He got steak for dinner the next night. R. I. P spaz mama loves and misses her big furry hero.

My ex-husband was a domestically violent man. Whenever he would hit me or threaten to, my Lhasa apso would growl, get between us, and bite his ankles. My ex would kick him, sometimes across the room, but my lhasa would never stop protecting me until the police came. Another time, my daughter came home with alcohol intoxication from drinking too much. I didnt know it, but she was passed out in her room on the floor. My Lhasa wouldn't leave me alone and kept running up and down the stairs, back and forth to her room to the front door when I got home from work that night. I came to understand that he wanted for me to follow him. I was able to get her to the emergency room and she had to be hospitalized. She recovered, but I was so grateful to my Lhasa for saving her.

Used to ride horses as a child at a local stables, one day (I was about 6 or 7) I was taking the horse I rode down to its stable and had to go behind a few other horses in a tight space to get there. I was nervous to go behind a particularly big shire horse but the owner of the stables told me I'd be fine as they were used to people, I let the horse know I was going behind him tapping him on the back and talking to him...freak incident and he kicked with both feet one hit my eye and the other got my ribs I fell back and was about to crack my head on a brick wall when the horse I had been riding jumped behind me so I fell onto his soft stomach instead.

In the first video, that was not a lab/chow mix. I've owned and been around both breeds. They look nothing like this pittie mix (No, not all attack and not all pits are bad. Only those with negligent or slack owners). Glad the cat was there to save the boy. This is an awesome compilation, btw. These hero animals deserve the best.

Both my dogs saved my life. My older dog Bella has alerted my daughter for help when I've had seizures, barking frantically and scratching on the door for help, and even tried dragging me inside when I had one outside in the backyard. Dug herself a little hole trying to pull me and ripped my pants. She alerted a passerby walking a dog, who broke away from his owner to come help, who saw me and then called 911. My younger dog Littles was at the groomers, and when I called twice to check on her but failed to pick her up, the concerned groomer called the police and they found me unconscious and seizing on the floor and got me medical attention. I adore my babies and they take care of me as much as I do them ❤️

When I was 4 or 5 years old my family went to go ice fishing with a family friend who had an ice shanty on a lake. It had snowed recently and so you couldn't tell where previously drilled holes where. Well I ended up stepping on the snow that had covered over a recent hole and I fell under the ice. I didn't know how to swim at the time, let alone did I know how to resurface after falling into an open ice fishing hole. Well my dog lunged forward and stuck her head in the hole and grabbed the hood of my parka started pulling me up while trying to bark and growl with her mouth full. My dad saw her and grabbed the hood and pulled me out. If it had been just a second or two later I would have been lost under the snow covered lake ice and died. Well we went right back to the truck and mom stripped off my wet clothes and wrapped me in her parka and we went back home and I had a hot shower and hot chocolate. The dog (Lady) got a plate of people food.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes that day was in coma for 3 days. Life flighted to Children's hospital and woke up 3 days later. Didn't happen to me, but my sister. She was walking our dog Dolly and while she was stopped talking to a friendly neighbor who was in his truck, a lady opened her door and her dog ran out and started running to my sister and our dog. Our dog immediately got defensive and bit the other dog, the owner of the offending dog eventually caught up and grabbed up her dog (it was a smaller dog). The lady had the audacity to yell at my sister for our dog biting hers, to which the guy in the truck yelled at the lady saying "well maybe you should keep your dog on a leash!" Dolly was always really protective and defensive of her babies, my brother, sister and I were her babies.
