Nice! Do a double feature, "Isolation years" and "Weakness" as they're both short. Btw Isolation years was an odd one in the album, it didn't fit the occult theme of the whole record but Mikeal had this song for a long while and he liked it so much he put that in anyway hence "Ghost Reveries" isn't technically a concept album.

A beautiful one, one of my personal fav. As a matter of fact, Isolation Years and Coil are stricly bonded one to the other. I love these tragic vibes. I read somewhere that Mikael was inspired by the news that an ex-girlfriend, to whom he was in good terms, committed suicide. Also Hessian Peel and Hex Omega were inspired by that episode, which obviously deeply hit Mikael.

This is a concept album (like Still Life) and you should listen to the whole thing if you want the complet story. Fun facts: there are «lyrics» for the instrumental tracks (Prologue, Madrigal and Epilogue) if you look in the booklet, it helps understanding the whole thing. It's a really cool ghost story, you should dive into it ! It's probably the most underrated Opeth album. It is not as polished as Still Life and Blackwater Park, but there are so many great moments on the record.

Great reaction as per usual. The drumming on this one is a highlight for me, this was Martin Lopez's first album with the band and he slays on this song

Fellow Opethians it’s finally here! And this one did not disappoint lol, I have too much to say about this reaction so I’ll try to keep it as short as I can, but it’ll still probably be too long A) for a first time listen, you did a good job following the story, there were certain things you caught that I completely ignored on my first listen, Opeth lyrics are rarely straightforward so good job catching as much as you did B) I’ll never listen to this album again without thinking of the woman/his lover in this story as the Demoness/Princess Demon (or for anime fans, Princess Demonoke), that was golden, demons need love too C) If you feel like there another live Opeth performance in your future, I highly recommend checking out the performance of When live from the Roundhouse Tapes, even though it’s a live performance it sounds even better than the album version (my arms your hearse didn’t have the best production value), and it might make you like this song even more, Mikael sounds like himself in that performance, even if you just check it out off-channel, it’s definitely worth it. D) reaction channels never get copyright strikes for Opeth songs, especially the older stuff, so whatever bizarre strike you received for this video was hopefully just some glitch, I can’t imagine that happening again with Opeth, Ghost is a much more popular band so that’s less surprising, but they’re older stuff shouldn’t get you into any trouble either. E) considering how much and why you like Harvest I think you’ll really like Isolation Years, great little song, looking forward to it!

I'm so happy you're finally hearing this. Each song on this album ends with name of the next song. The first song April Ethereal ends with " I know the how but not the when" When ends with the word Madigal, Madigal ends with Demon of the Fall and so on. Kinda biased, this is my favorite album. It's album #3 My Arms Your Hearse

One of the most "Opeth" songs in their catalogue. This album as a whole concept work is one of my favorites of all time. The vibe, production, the dark atmosphere, all the acoustics, and his growls...so nasty and raspy 👌👿

The Mikael playing bass situation.... At the time there was just Mikael and guitarist Peter left in the band, Martin Lopez and Martin Mendez came as a package deal (they were childhood friends and had moved to Sweden at the same time from Uruguay). At the time Mikael wasn't sure about having them both in the band and decided at first just to ask Lopez to join as they desperately needed a drummer to record the album. Then obviously they needed a bass player to tour the album so Mendez was finally invited to join. Although Mikael always says he's proud of his bass work on this album I do sense there was some regret he didn't ask Mendez to join before the album was recorded. Great reaction Lauren, thanks for getting back to Opeth (even if all the songs I vote for rarely win the polls 🤣).

I was gonna type the same comment, but you beat me to it. I found this out because while learning that bass parts from the album there were some parts buried a little too deep in the mix so I started listening to live performances to see if I can hear them better. I noticed the bass parts were played a little differently and found out it wasn't Martin Mendez on the album.

Not sure if you've been made aware of this in previous vids, but my arms your hearse is a concept album. So the 'plot' of the song might be somewhat odd trying to piece together one song at a time lol. That aside, I love this song & album - it was one i'd often play in full on cold rainy days whilst lying in bed watching the rain, very nostalgic for me.

If you're wondering why Mikael sounds a bit different on the album, he had a cold during the vocal recordings. It was their third album where they basically ditched the twin guitar melodies that were so prominent on the first two records.

You should do "White Cluster" as well (studio version), is from the Still Life record, if you can do a little research on the album concept as the whole record is a big narration, the songs hit different when you know the backstory especially White Cluster as it's the last song of the album. There's a girl on youtube who did a whole video explaining the story of that record, I don't agree with all the interpretation she made about the lyrics but overall the story is explained and it's a good starting point.

Nobody expects the spanish inquisition, or the opeth demon : ) On the album "My arms, your hearse" all the songs end with the title of the next song. I think there's a continous story there, but I've never sat down to unravel it :P

At work, I would play this album from start to finish and everytime a song would go from mellow acoustic to distortion and Death vocals, my co-worker would get whiplash. I said to him, "You gotta pay attention. There's gonna be a test later." I didn't tell him the "test" was going to be a band called NILE. 😂😂 Love your show, Lady L. 🤘😎🤘💯

I love how he lulls us in with those beautiful, serene interludes and jump-scares the bloody hell out of us and then proceeds to melt off our faces, bludgeoning us into the next brutal passage! 🔥🤘🏼 Mikael was really starting to find himself, musically & lyrically, with this full on conceptual piece, as the classic lineup was taking shape with Martin Lopez mounting the drum throne on the album and Martin Mendez to closely follow up and spell Mikael from the bass duties (which I thought he did himself proud with a yeoman’s service) on this progressive death metal banger! It didn’t have quite the best overall production sound, just yet, but they were well on their way to the top of the heap with this album……enter “Still Life” & “Blackwater Park”. I enjoyed it, as always, and I love you doing You, Lauren! 🤟🏼 Now, get off my lawn……😂

My Arms, Your Hearse. For the longest time I tried to figure out what that meant. Now I do. The early Opeth albums are good, but the production I found was always thin and bottom end was almost nonexistent. Until Blackwater Park. But it's still Old-peth, and I love the Demon. Just not as much as BWP, D&D, GR, and Ws.

I’m not a huge fan of the first 3 albums…they sound too thin with not enough dynamic range. The sound got way better with Still Life and got better and better after that. I think Ghost Reveries is one of the best sounding albums ever.
