One of the best Opeth songs ever. Thx for reacting. "Baying of the hounds" or " Lotus Eater" are awesome too.

This is their third album. As with everything they do, it is a masterpiece. It's a concept album, and each song's lyrics end with the name of the next song. Fun facts: Just before the time of the recording, the drummer, Anders Nordin (a Brazilian), and the bass player, Johan De Farfalla, left the band. They managed to hire a new drummer, Martin Lopez (Uruguayan), promptly, but the new bass player, Martin Mendez (also Uruguayan), didn't have adequate time to learn the basslines. Consequently, the vocalist, writer, guitar player, and undeniable genius, Mikael Äkerfeldt, stepped in to record the basslines, which turned out to be incredibly well-done. Additionally, during the recording, Mikael was battling with flu, slightly affecting his voice. You can notice the slightly nasal tone, especially in the clean parts. Even so, for me, his voice sounds amazing. Please, do next "Harlequin Forest" live at Royal Albert Hall!!!

First Opeth song I ever heard. Vividly remember thinking it was Pink Floyd in the outro

When you would have been a kid, this definitely IS what Opeth was 🤣 They've moved further away over the years, while still being absolutely incredible musicians.

The live version of this from Roundhouse Tapes is as good or better🙌 Man...this song (its the 2nd full track, aside from a short prelude instrumental/ambient intro) and album are just so damn classic. It's when the band really took on their sound that defined them and started what some would call their golden era. I would also agree his growls on this album are the best they ever sounded. Such a nasty, demonic tone🤘😈 Additional info - The lead singer/songwriter/guitarist (Mikael Akerfeldt) played bass on this album as they were just transitioning to a new bass player (Martin Mendez), who is still in the band and the only other "OG" member remaining from the 90s. This album "My Arms, Your Hearse" was released in 1998.

Martin Mendez is one of the greatest metal bassists, period. I love listening to his groovy bass lines in every Opeth song. And I also love to say that I got to meet him next to the bus after a show back in the day. He is an all-time legend IMO.🤘

Top 3 opeth song on a top 3 opeth album for me, my arms your hearse goes so hard but doesn’t get the same type of love as still life/blackwater park/ghost reveries

And you're right: it's the story of a man who died and returns as a ghost to communicate with his beloved and try to take her with him, becoming an obsessive relationship.

1:02 if I were drinking milk I would have spit it out at this moment 😂. Yes, MAYH is easily my second favorite album by them trailing only Still life. Extremely hard to pick considering they have 13 fantastic albums. Growls in MAYH, Still life and BWP are easily his best. Fun reaction bro you got a thumbs up.

10:36 HAHAHA that is literally EXACTLY what the album is about lmao you caught on instantly! The album that this comes from is a concept album about a guy who died and is stalking his grieving lover or something like that lol
