When Homemaking is Overwhelming I Christian Encouragement when Stressed

It is good to be home! Thank you for your patience while I was on vacation. I am so excited for the videos I have planned. My hope is to now post twice a week! My prayer for this video, is that you would be encouraged and uplifted during your time of stress. This was a very vulnerable video for me to make, and I pray that my struggles, and the words of the Holy Spirit, would remind you that you are not alone. -Kelsey

A word to the wise....being 'overwhelmed' ALL the time (not just momentarily like this) really takes a toll on your health. I have literally ruined my health from my past of stress, anxiety, thinking I need to do it all, and rushing, rushing, rushing. Trying to live up to everyone else's standards left me with clinical anxiety & depression. Trying to cope with those, without any professional help, left me with clinical OCD & a nervous breakdown at 24. It is what ultimately lead me to be a sahm - because I literally could NO LONGER work, while trying to maintain a home & raise a child. these mental health issues left unchecked, left me with a chronic digestive disorder, that 20 years later I am still suffering from. I have sat in a recliner all day today, unable to do anything due to being so ill I could crawl in a hole & die. Rushing around trying to do it all & do it all FAST left me with an injured back that required surgery & I still suffer from those physical ailments. Point being - by letting oneself feel/get overwhelmed & try to rush to do it all or stress out to do it all, you actually cost your self time & sanity over the long run. I have missed way more 'time' being sick or injured than if I had just slowed down & tried to be realistic about my workload. At that time I was not walking with Jesus, really, even though I went to church. And I had a mom that was/is stressed all the time like this & none of her children have a good relationship with her. She stayed home, but was always pushing us away & too busy to let us help. she did everything for us & then constantly complained about all she had to do. I don't remember really wanting to be 'around' her. She was snappy to us. And even now she often acts 'too busy' to have much to do with us, all the while complaining about how she never sees us. I've tried to mindful, stop what I am doing & just spend time with my kids - because, I too, can fall into this trap of just wanting to 'get it all done'. Our work will never be done, until the Lord calls us home. I just try to remind myself of that.

Dear Sister. I am on my last year homeschooling my senior son. Oh how I wish I could turn back the time and do it all over again. My heart is sad looking at the end of this season. I remember when my daughter who is now married with 4 kiddos (almost) would say "Mommy play with me". I was so busy and tired back then. No more shame, friend. Just "do the next thing ".

Hi Kelsey, I really appreciated your honesty in the middle of your video. Sometimes I watch these Christian homemaking videos that are wonderful and inspiring, but I also walk away feeling like these women are perfect or have perfect lives. Thank you for being real for a person that is frequently overwhelmed and feeling not good enough but I do believe the Lord has made it so that we can’t do anything on our own without Him. My parents worked full time my whole childhood so I only saw them at night and on weekends but all I can remember is my mom cleaning the kitchen and my dad outside doing yard work . These are good things but when you’re a parent it’s so easy to get distracted by what you think is important. I know because I got caught up in the same mindset raising my own kids, thinking that the house had to be perfect. I very much regret not spending more time with them when they were little. Thanks again for your honesty.

Thank you for this. God bless you. You have helped me a lot and I know you have helped so many other women as well. Thank you for sharing not only the good days, but also, that your willing to share the not so good days. God always turns our mourning into dancing....Thanks again..Sherri- Payette Idaho

my new neighbor & I laugh while texting AWFUL pictures of our homes - keeping it real with each other. I tell her we ought to be "de-fluencers" because if anyone saw the state of our homes when we are done doing interesting (to us) projects they would sit on their hands & never attempt anything. It is fun to have someone that can hold you 'accountable' on the reality of life. Our houses always get picked up at the end (or in my case, the beginning) of the day, but boy can it get hairy in the middle!

I JUST happened upon your channel this morning! I wanted to speak on the verses about giving thanks in all things. If anyone has read the Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, she and her sister Betsie had to live in a flea infested barracks for a period of time during the German invasion of Holland in the 1940's. They thanked God for the fleas and there actually turned out to be a blessing from God because of those fleas! So the point is, no matter how dire or overwhelming our circumstance, we truly need to thank God in everything! He may be preparing to bless us with the very thing that is causing us distress!! God bless you today as you share the Gospel with others!!

You’ve spoken to my heart. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability. I think it’s so important that we admit overwhelm as mothers and homemakers. Especially as a Christian, because there is this stigma that we are supposed to have it all together and we shouldn’t complain because we “choose this”. We are flawed human beings and we have hard days too. It doesn’t mean we are ungrateful or we don’t love the life God has blessed us with. I appreciate the shift in focus. It’s always at the end of a day or replaying footage that makes us realize, oh, they just want to be with me and I was so focused on my overwhelm. Oh but there’s grace, praise the Lord! One thing I want to practice is a gentle voice and smiling more! I realize through the day I’m so serious about my work that I don’t really smile while I’m doing it…I mean, no one really smiles while doing dishes 😅 BUT I want to practice remaining joyful in those moments so when my children do approach me I’m not all flustered. Anyways, ALL of that to say, thank you for sharing your heart sister. I believe the statement “you’re gonna miss this” is SO true, but it’s hard to swallow when we’re in the thick of it. I do try to remember that we are raising little people that need us to be what we needed growing up as well. So much harder said than done but like you said, God is in the drivers seat ❤ God Bless you sweet mama!

I wanted to leave a comment to thank you. Watching your videos, it’s a breath of fresh air. We are alike in many aspects; the overwhelm, the crying, the yelling, realizing our babies just want to be with us and help us in any way they can. I appreciate seeing the way you live life: balanced. You have SunChips on the table but also value making snacks homemade and buying organic when you can. I have 3 children like you, my oldest girl is 5, my middle boy is 3, and my youngest daughter is almost 2, and we are expecting our 4th (boy) any day now! I just wanted to leave a comment here to tell you that God uses people to help others in ways we may not see or understand. A light can always be shown, even during the hard times. Thank you. ❤️

YES to all the ways we're alike! I try to be as balanced as I can, but it is definitely hard most days. Your comment was the sweetest, and I appreciate the encouragement more than you know. Thank you for being light. ✨️I very much am inspired by other mama's and their stories! Hopefully your baby comes sooner than later!

When our family of 6 returns home from a long travel day we have a “recovery day”. I find that I am tired, overwhelmed and emotional when I first get back home. Everything seems glaringly messy and undone. The things that bother me about my home seem enormous! So much to do!!! But if we have a recovery day first , the next day I feel more energized , grounded and ready to tackle it. So on our recovery day ,the priority is rest for each family member. The kids are usually out of sorts as well. The good of the vacation can be undone if I try to catch up on everything this first day back. Of course there are meals and basic things to do but I don’t tackle all the unpacking, laundry, mail sorting, bill paying, pets, plants that need attention etc during recovery day. Only those things that have a time limit on them or are a basic need that must be met. Even if it means pushing school starting one day later, we will be in a better mindset if we can have a slower paced, more restful recovery day . This will put us all in a better place for the long haul. I have been doing this for a long time now and have found it to be very effective. It’s not procrastinating. It’s resting and resetting. I hope this might be helpful for you. Breathe deep and pray, dear sister. You are doing great!

Yes what I see tells me you need to discover that satin is at hand in this idea of what you need to do. Telling you lies about what needs to be done, there needs to be more interaction and you need to let the mess happen and do the bare minimum of homemaking cleaning etc choose your children. You do need to remember there’s nothing wrong with bakery bread or getting takeout. There’s something to be said for leaving it all and teaching cards like snap or memory together. Or reading books to them. Take them to the park when you feel overwhelmed. Get out of the space.
