I remember when I was younger, working 19 straight days in a row, all 12 hour shifts, on my feet all day with hardly a break at all. I had one day off coming up. ONE. I spent every day looking forward to it. My work agency asked me last minute if I could come in on that day and I said no. If I'd worked it, that would've been around 30 days in a row, again, all 12 hour shifts. But I needed that day off to rest. And d'you know what happened when I turned that day down? Some complete and utter fucking wally of a colleague of mine scoffed, telling me I could be making overtime pay, and how it was lazy of me to want that day off. After working _nineteen straight days._ It's never enough for these people. Working your life away and having no free time is seen as a bragging right. Nowadays, I spends as much time of my work day reading a book or playing games as I can get away with. Because why should I overwork myself for a company that doesn't care about me?

These are the type who flex on "social merit" more than family merit. It's a shame that when they finally retire, they'll only have about 18 months to 5 years at most (if they're lucky) before their hearts expire and maybe one or two coworkers will talk more positively about them at their funeral rather than their grieving widow and children who will say things like "I wish we had more time together."

I used to feel guilty about the fact I barely work and have so much time on my hands but then I look around at all the older generation that have been working their whole lives, since they were teenagers, and realize that I don't want to live like that; working until I'm 70yos. So I'll gladly enjoy all the free time I have before it's time to become another slave to the wage 👍

Nah, it's a lie. Yep, truth about the braggers and dickwaggers, it's all fashion. It got started 15 years ago. Pretty funny the economy took a shit, then here came the rise of the work ethic propaganda, right beside the rise of the anti-millennial/anti-youth propaganda. Of course I noticed something about it, that is most of those so-called middle-class types lost their asses either before 2008, during or there slightly afterwards. They lost the house, the whatever car, they sold those RVs and ATVs so they lost the toys, many of them ended up losing the family scene via divorce. So the only thing they had left to brag and dickwag about was their job. It became fashionable to brag about the super crazy hours they work, (most of which is bullshit) yeah, I've caught a fair amount of the dorks acting like they only live to work, yet notice how they shop a lot? Hummm those "always at work" neighbors are home a lot. It's mostly made up bullshit by idiots whom wish to show up at the family gatherings and brag about doing regular shit. See that's the thing I always laughted at and never understood, they're obviously not the first to have a job or pull a bit of overtime, It's just regular activities. But they get in front if the family especially the "elders" and they feel the need to sound off to the point they try to make the most mundane stuff sound like some extra special shit... Like for example... "Yeah I had to "wake up" in the morning. After putting in 10 hours Friday "I went to sleep" that night. "Yeah that overtime though, I sit on my ass in an office"! And the older people seem to eat this shit right up. Lol. I'd have thought the "elders" by now would have said big deal, it's just nornal shit. Oh boy, so you're at an outdoor family gathering and someone says the word "work" notice how everyone stops dead in their tracks and looks around stands up even like prairie dogs? They're brainwashed. Oh boy, so working home Depot and lowes. Old foggies in departments love to shit on the youth, to the point that rather than the older person doing their amount of work, they're either standing there in the middle of the store bladding anti-youth bullshit to someone or they're in the break room blabbing and professing about how "Young people don't do their jobs" "Young people don't want to work"! Rather than themselves doing what they was assigned to do. Oh and if you point that out, you'll be blackballed, that is if you care! It's all nonsensical bullshit, it's all propaganda to get us to do more for less. Oh and I'd also like to address the way those on a work ethic high horse love to start their lectures, sayings like..."my grandpa" "my great grandpa" "My dad"! Well here's the trick prick, I don't give a shit about what your old and dead relatives did, that was before my time. So the whole concept that I/we should suck it because they did is pretty much you being a sheep, stooge moron and embracing your corporate slavery. Oh yes and the throwing around about "entitled"! Hummmmm well now I guess by the text book bitching , pissing and moaning conducted by boomers these days, then I'd say their grandparents, that is the Boomer's grandparents, my great grandparents, was a bunch of young spoiled little entitled bastards back in the 1930's, because they fought for unions, they "demanded better wages and working conditions huh? That's what they say about youth or today's middle-aged. How many of you would take the opportunity to strut up to your grandparents and say, hey you was a bunch of spoind entitled lil bastards? What these old folks today say about the millennials and younger today was quite common among their grandparents and their parents! But no no lets not bring that up or some will proclaim "that's different"! When it's not!

Yup I knew a guy just like this at one of my previous jobs; he'd go out of his way to pick up shifts on all of his days off when he was already rota'd at 50hrs a week, but then would basically invade people's pleasant conversations to say he had no time for his hobbies, or to watch that new show everyone was raving about, because he never got any time off. He was actually a nice fella most of the time, but sometimes it just felt like he was deliberately bumming people out over his own bad choices lol
