All of my Disney DVD's have this promo and I felt like no one talks about how prominent they are

This is why I respect the crew behind both Sonic Movies and the Mario Movie for actually making some quality art.

This reminds me of the 1993 Mario Movie: 1. Making a silent character talk too much 2. Too many side characters 3. Making a dragon-like creature in the game look human-like in the movie 4. The bosses in the game team up with the hero in the movie 5. The director cares about movie and does not care about faithfulness to the game. Edit: Thx for the likes!

There were movie adaptations of games before the Sonic Movie that weren't that bad, it's just that Sonic did pretty well on balancing the newcomer accessibility, fan enjoyability and quality, with the sequel improving on those aspects. The Mario Movie (not the 90's one) is also visually stunning and is pretty faithful to the Mario series, but it could have confused some newcomers to Mario and is also pretty short meaning some plot points would have been too long for the runtime.

Don't forget that the movie can't possibly take place in the games universe, because that would be too confusing for a general audience. Instead, they'll go with the super unique idea to have a person from our world get zapped through a magic portal and end up there! It's never been seen before! That doesn't work for ya? Just do the opposite and have a few characters from the game come to OUR world instead! That way, you'll save on budget, and can still tell the very unique "fish out of water becomes hero in a strange new land" story!
