What an instructive video! It's a boggling position, but as Irina goes through it, it gradually becomes clearer and clearer. Never would have understood all of that on my own, even with an engine.

Its possible that Re3 maybe a very difficult move to spot even for a GM during a game but just the fact that it exists just goes to show the sublime beauty and complexity of the game

I agree, it is a very difficult move to spot. Perhaps that is why it wasn't played in the game.

This is one of the most interesting positional studies I've seen in a while, I really enjoyed this one! However if someone as creative in his board vision as GM Dubov can't find the move, I'm not optimistic about my chances...

So many twists and turns in that little position, endgames are like scary Rubik cubes you have to dismantle.

You could have mentioned CCA because Re3 is the only way to put a check on White, so that move is high on the list of candidates. Getting at the undefended b-file pawns is also a priority. But in the heat of a blitz game yes it's not so easy.

By the way the equal rook and pawn endgame that followed was also quite difficult to play perfectly in a rapid game with very little time available even at the Grandmaster level. Perhaps Irina Krush would consider covering that endgame in another video since in it Dubov, who we can consider a super Grandmaster missed multiple wins in it. That means any human can misplay it under similar circumstances but Irina can easily and clearly explain how it should have been played at least in hindsight.

This was an excellent presentation as always but "not so easy to find the right move" is an understatement when one considers the difficulties inherent in playing this endgame in a rapid game. Indeed a human could only play it perfectly by luck.
