I'm actually quite good at this "fire extinguishing". When I'm forced to find good moves, I do. But when I'm not forced to find good moves, I seem to miss every opportunity that knocks on my door 😆

Great lesson, thanks Irina. For people who like to take notes from the video: In do-or-die moments, remember: - Don't give up on your position. - Don't play fast. - Look at all the resources on the board.

Just discovered your channel yesterday, and watched this video. I rarely finish watching long videos on KZread, but this really caught my attention and I watched the whole thing. Enjoyed the instructive content and teaching style. Coincidentially I played a classical game today where I had a good position until my rook seemingly got trapped. I felt like resigning, but remembered your advice of not giving up and looking for resources in the position. So after almost 10 minutes of searching I found the only move that worked in the position - moving my rook to a square where it actually could not be taken, as the pawn that could take it was pinned to opponent's queen. I am certainly going to watch more of your videos. If they are of the same quality as this one, your channel should be an absolute gold mine!

I paused the video, thought, came up with the move bishop d3. "Well, black came up with a not so strong move, bishop d3"

In the first example, is it a good plan to put the black bishop on d3: let white take the rook, then black takes the white kings rook, then whites queen rook takes the Bishop and finally pick up the initial attacking light squared white Bishop with the black queen? Therefore black sold his bishop for a rook and bishop.
