The tattoos might be a night sister thing instead of a sith thing since savage had them to before meeting any sith. But then again I’ve seen comic panels of Sidious giving him those tattoos so I guess we’ll need to ask George to make sure.

I still think it’s more likely the sisters gave them to maul and that comic panel was a retcon though but if not there’s still kind of an explanation.

At that point, Maul had already been betrayed by Palpatine and was painfully aware of what Order 66 was. It wasn’t “kill all Jedi”, but rather an order to exterminate any force sensitive being known to the Republic/Empire. You don’t need to be a Jedi to say “I don’t want to be killed by that treacherous a-hole!”. In the end, Luke DID avenge Maul by throwing Palpatine down a hole

By "us" I think he meant force users, not just Jedi. Sidious was dangerous to all force sensitives, not only Jedi. If he had it his way he alone would have ruled for eternity. He betrayed the sith ways as well as the Jedi.

He's one of two subspecies of zabrak. I believe male Dathomirian zabrak have more pronounced facial markings than... the other subspecies, while female Dathomirian zabrak don't have horns like the males and other subspecies.

It was changed once. There were just zabraks from Iridonia, and Maul was one of them. Then TCW came out, and decided to mash EU characters and make its lore a mess, by making Ventress and Maul the same species (and Ventress was originally a Ratattacki), and Dathomir was changed to be single-biome red mist planet with single Witch-clan. Someone probably looked at Maul and decided "ahh im gonna make entire species of his" and thats why all zabraks on dathomir have SITH tattos for some reason.​@@thomasleonardis711

I always thought that maul was a kind of anti-Ahsoka(mostly because she has two lightsabers and he has one lightsaber with two sides). They both end up leaving their side of the force in a way yet retain some things from their time spent with the people from that side of the force. He wielded the dark saber and her lightsabers became white. Both come from Tribal backgrounds but Maul’s people leaned more to the dark side while Ashoka’s people leaned more the light side.

Maul: Is this me as a jedi? Maul: Is this me happy as a jedi?! Maul: I fucking kill me!!

What about when Darth Maul had a vision of being a ladies' shoe salesman. Married with 2 children and a dog.

It’s kind of terrifying that teaching someone how to be a Sith is actually pretty understanding and wise. It’s not all Rage and Death; it’s allowing your emotions some rein to move, and thinking about how you can control them to increase your power

Fun fact: in his heart of hearts Maul did not hate Jedi because of Sith training. It was because they did not take him away from Dathomir when he was a kid to become a Jedi, away from barbarism of the planet, even from his mother who for all her love for him, she did not hesitate to have him bullied or thrown into the pit to almost starve for her own ambitions under orders of the outsider, Sidious. Because for all Jedi faults and hypocrisy and his dedication to Sidious, Maul couldn't deny that Jedi still treated better their own than Sith or Nightsisters and Nightbrothers. But hardly I can imagine Jedi being allowed by friendly Nightsisters to take Maul to their temple.

I prefer his pre Disney backstory.

what i find interesting is that had Sidious just focused on Maul and followed his plan normally otherwise (and did try to get Anakin) he probably would have succeeded in eradicating the Jedi and full Galactic subjugation. Maul was ABSOLUTELY loyal to Sidious up until his betrayal

apparently, and this is supposedly canon, in the starwars universe, certain races are pulled more towards the light or dark side. zabraks were more likely to be pulled toward the darkside, although not all. just like other races like yodas, were pulled closer to the light side, and again, not all as there were some dark side of yodas people. but for the most part and on average, they were pulled to one side or the other, depending on species.
