This is a reply to what John Tinker wrote on Facebook and to my fellow fans: When fans are so focused on one thing or one character.. it’s hard to see the whole picture. We, the fans, need to step into the shoes of each character. EVERYONE was hurting in the last scene... not just Nathan. Elizabeth is still not even sure if she’s ready to move on from Jack. Then seeing Lucas.. knowing that he must be in such pain.. seeing her on a date. Then the shock of meeting Helen and hearing those words said to her. I would feel sick to my stomach too. It’s was overwhelming for everyone involved. How could she continued to dinner & pretend that didn’t just happen? Life.. even make believe..isn’t about one person’s feelings. Look around you... Everyone has feelings.... even the actors, writers, etc. They see what you write. Be kind. They are BOTH GOOD MEN! They both deserve to be happy. It will be ok for whoever she doesn’t pick. WCTH will NOT leave the other without love of his own. Gotta have a season 9 now. Just gotta.. for the fans sake. Remember you can’t have a beautiful rainbow without a little rain 1st. Amen to all what was said here...this is a story, real life situation where we make on the spot decision..ie deciding to not go on dinner date ..when seeing Lucas n mom..Elizabeth acted kind and thoughtful towards Lucas..tho it also put down Nathan, but that is where compassion is..her heart already knows who it belongs to...but to nake fans get " so involved " in the story writers have to make it more twisty and as Erin said, clues and sleuthing for fans to watch until the last episodes..when it will be more clear!! Love the writers idea...think we can apply what the story lines they are trying to convey, goofy times, romantic and some thats not so great accdg to us...As fans and real people we look for entertainment as well as lessons to be learned and stories to inspire us!! We have to be patient and kind to each other! As HEARTIES are known to be !! (A diehard Heartie fan since pandemic !) LOVE n Blessings to all! 💞❤💞🌈🌈🌈

The writers might think it is a good thing to go back and forth with Nathan and Lucas with Elizabeth's emotions, but it just might backfire where the hearties are concerned. Most of us are ready NOW to move on already!

I feel like everyone's looking at this dinner date wrong. If you recall Nathan spent the whole episode coaxing her into it so that tells you she was already uncomfortable. Then it was like a family outing having Jack and Alie, and it's going to be in public in front of whoever happened to be eating there. That's certainly going to draw gossip around town, which is different from private outings with lucas. So she already feels unsure. Then Lucas and his mom are right there to witness them together and his mom makes a comment about her writing. So now she's dealing with a lot of emotions at once. It makes perfect logical and literary sense that she would cancel diner.

I understand what you are saying, but it still doesn't make sense.She already knew that it will be at the cafe regardless of if the children would be with them or not,she knew it will be public.She could have gone and go home earlier if her encounter with Helen Bouchard was so disturbing.Or she could have told Nathan that she is not ready for a diner.What she has done was rude, but she will definitely have time to dine and having picnic with Lucas but will not want to call it date😒 .These guys need to leave her alone : when they see her in town,they just have a casual discussion and nothing else. Anyway this love triangle is just frustrating to see at this point.

Elizabeth has two great guys to choose between, no matter who she ends up with, she can't go wrong, both have equal respect for her and have the ability to share a great life, develop a strong relationship and contribute to her growth intellectually , emotionally , professionally and romantically.

I love interviews of the 3 of you. You always make me laugh. Nothing is better than that.. for me. 🤣

Enjoyed that Paul actually sung in the episode 👍👍👍👍👍. They should’ve written in the entire song. Paul is such a great singer.

Its all in fun and mystery...as to who will end up with the lead role and mountie!! Think its great story! Hope Valley will last and more episodes!!! All casts roles have life lessons for the audience!! Like the children too..ps..bring back Cody and Abigail pls!!. Team NATHAN!🍁♥️🍁,

Ok let me see if I've got this straight, straight first off when I see Nathan and I'm not the only one that feels this way but when I see Nathan I see Jack's ghost now I'm not sure what Nathan wife died from but Jack died in his line of work which got him killed if she chooses Nathan it would be like the same way, now Elizabeth already had a love story with a Mountie and his name was Jack. Does she want to go through another situation with Nathan the way that she did wondering if or when he'll ever come back to her alive again the way that they did with Jack each time, the Mounties comes back her and Nathan shares that wonderful hug like she did with Jack and the next time he's gone always worrying about him like she did with Jack and not knowing if he's dead or alive. I feel the sameway if she chooses Nathan, and everyone seems ok with her and Nathan together romantically instead of her choosing someone different this time? Can I asked you something are you crazy? Why would she want to go through that again?! Yeah she suddenly gotten sick she hurted Lucas not once with Nathan but twice that hug between her and Nathan I mean Lucas was deeply hurt he thought that Elizabeth has chosen Nathan and then when he saw them walking together and that look in his eyes again. That should of told Elizabeth something on which man that her heart truly wants to be with if she wants Nathan why did she all of sudden change her mind like that after seeing that look on Lucas face and eyes? If she truly wanted Nathan that wouldn't have bothered her in that way and she would of kept her date with Nathan. If Lucas is hurting now imagine if she chooses Nathan? That's why he left, he may wants her to be happy but she's in love with Lucas more so than with Nathan.

@@bhd7721 I agree with you she loves Lucas and she knows Lucas loves her because they have been dating for 2 seasons it's just Elizabeth doesn't call it that. Rosemary and Bill know Lucas is better for Elizabeth. Allie's mother was Nathan's sister not his wife and we don't know how she died. Lucas gives Elizabeth unconditional love. I also agree with you about Jack she is trying to get him back thru Nathan. She 99% of the time look happy around Lucas. She looks guilty around Nathan and rarely smiles. When she saw Lucas she was really happy and he answered all her questions. Nathan never answers her questions and the situation with Allie's father could have been dangerous for everyone. Can't wait to see what Lucas tells his mother about the triangle

Can you date a man who has not say anything related to dating? He compliments her but when it comes to all things love and dating,it is radio silence. He said last season he doesn't want a family right away and Elisabeth already has a child.I don't see where their relationship is going.But it seems Elisabeth loves this game because she wants attention.

If someone told you that they loved you and that's all they did you would not believe them but if someone did things for you everyday that was thoughtful and kind and focused on your happiness you would know at least they cared. With them it is also the looks they give each other and their conversations. I respect the fact that you may be a Nathan fan and that's okay too. That means we all get something from the show and it doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong. Just a view🤗

It is true, if you love someone and don't do anything for that person you are not very convincing.But they need to define their relationship,are they friends or more than friends : he needs to tell her what he wants and if she doesn't want to date him,there are other women for him,they are playing game now and i think they should have pass this stage at this point because she has spent enough time with him to already have an idea. This love triangle is truly annoying right now.

Totally agree with comments in general, if the writers are stringing this out need to get a grip it’s getting very very tedious, if she doesn’t get with Nathan I can’t watch. I’m already not wanting to watch first episode just after watching this. Can we have a happy ending please

There has never been a series, or a season that can be characterized as "very very tedious" after the FIRST episode!

I am on Team Nathan all the way. I was so heart broken after she chose Lucas, I couldn't watch the next episode immediately. I finally watched it, and there seems to be a flicker of hope that Nathan will not give up so easily. Still crossing my fingers.

Team ClasseCoulter stole the show for me! I love the mentorship between the Coulters and the Flynns! Lee was spot on with what he told Jesse. Marriage is a covenant. Jesse committed to love Clara on that special day but Lee had to remind him that love is a choice. It is an action that Jesse has to choose to do. I also enjoyed how both Jesse and Clara apologized, each owning up to what they were doing to add fuel to the bickering. That is how relationships work. Each person needs to own up to what they did wrong reguardless of who actually triggered it. Yay for Jesse and Clara, each taking responsibility for their own actions! We need to see more of this in Hope Valley. Also, shout out to Team Fiara! I enjoyed seeing how close Fiona and Clara have come, practically like sisters now. Looking forward to more of this in season 8! I will also add that Bill and Molly were hilarious! Enjoying their sass already. I just wish we could hear more from the supporting actors on their thoughts and reflections on their characters and storylines. I thought that this was supposed to be an ensemble show. Apparently, I was mistaken.

A good man which we have seen over the seasons and his selflessness too. Look at the bigger picture then just what he owns. (And the only one hiding things or not honest with Elizabeth is Nathan... And its been said in interview he has a secret )

Agree, good thing that on the clip from Episode 2, Nathan confidently said he is ready to settle down (with or without Elizabeth) and when she said they should get together when he comes back from his trip he said "alright" then excused himself as he had to shop for things at the mercantile. Love this new Nathan!

Elizabeth wanted to go to the trip with Lucas, she choice that. And the date with the candles - her choice was left to her and she wanted that. Seemed to me she was kinda hesitated to go to dinner with Nathan and he has couple of times and he didn't even try to leave to her choice but just asked her again straight away and she hestitaly said alright lol.

Of course, this isn’t real life, and I do understand that team Nathan wants their day!! I’m sure it’ll come soon!

@@lilimccarthy8664 I think the proper thing would be to decline his invitation altogether. It just appears she didn't mind the idea as long as she thought Lucas wouldn't know. But as soon as him and his mom showed up, she was ashamed. But this gives me all the more reason to believe she will end up with Nathan. Because if she truly wanted to be with Lucas she would have already done so.

The writers seem to always portray Elizabeth as an insensitive woman and a woman who likes attention from men. It's almost the same story line as with Jack and Charles before. Elizabeth invited Jack to a party at her parents house, then spent all evening flirting with Charles knowing fully well that Jack was in the same room all by himself (looking very awkward) pretending not to see what was going on. The finale of season 7 showed Elizabeth had deep affection for Nathan but now the writers are portraying her to be more embarrassed and unhappy being seen with Nathan (poor guy) and very happy and relax when she is with Lucas which is indicative that she is not confused anymore of who she really love so why drag it to the end of season 8. If the writer's aren't careful, the fans will end up hating Elizabeth and will stop watching WCTH if they haven't already.

Honestly, I watch this show for the rest of the storylines and characters anymore. I am one of those people who liked Elizabeth at first, but after seeing the episodes through more an more, I have spotted her entitled, elite attitude. Especially with Jack, Lucas and Nathan. She got worse for me mid way through season 6. She hasn't dug herself out of that hole for me since. The one word that I believe you eluded to Madeleine (please correct me if I am wrong) that describes Elizabeth is hypocrite at this point. She flirts with Lucas, then drags her feet through the mud with Nathan instead of speaking up and saying something all while saying in her journal that she cannot continue romance with both men? Really? It looks like she is still doing exactly that. Poor Nathan seems quite confused about either what that hug meant or Elizabeth's feelings for him or both. Lucas on the other hand seems to be as wounded as Nathan was when Elizabeth went out of town overnight with Lucas. I can honestly say that I don't blame either suitor for their feelings right now. I don't blame Lucas for being a bit uncivil to Elizabeth as he left to gain perspective. In fact, I think that both men are too good for Elizabeth at this point.

Thank you Ann. I am just disappointed because the way season 7 ended, I thought season 8 will start with Elizabeth finally deciding who she wants. Lucas saw what had happened and I'm sure it would have been very hard for him but he can keep himself entertained driving around in his new convertible and he has the oil business problems to occupy his mind. Loads of interesting story lines there. Elizabeth and Nathan can start dating and reinforcing their love for each other and prepare for the next stage of their relationship. They have issues for them to resolve too specially with what Nathan is holding back and Allie's adoption. I think what Nathan is holding back has something to do with Jack's last assignment where he died. I think maybe that was Nathan's assignment but maybe he was unable to go because of some personal/family issues, etc so Jack was asked to go instead, lots of maybes. . Instead, we are back to square one guessing who is it going to be. Elizabeth is saying at the start that she can't date this 2 men at the same time and yet that's what she seems to be doing. She seems to be giving Lucas the hope (or could it be false hope) that all is not lost. It seems cruel if she drags it on. One of the promos show that she went on a picnic with Lucas. Maybe this is an indication that she has already chosen Lucas. I do try to put myself in the place of both men and to me it is cruel to drag it on. We'll see what the next episode brings.

She doesn't have deep affection for Nathan, rather of who Nathan reminds her of. Nathan reminds Elizabeth of her mountie, Jack and nothing more. If Nathan was not a mountie, she wouldn't be confused.

I think both because Lucas has never done anything to hurt her even when she was mad at him for teaching Allie a card trick and when she jumped to conclusion when he stopped being Henry's partner and even when he sent her writing to his mother without asking. He knew how terrified she is about rejection. He has put more faith in her than she has to him. Elizabeth is use to getting her way now she's faced with a woman who feels the same. So that was a two folded situation. Lucas is a great catch and mama could stop her writing career. She's been chasing Nathan and Lucas has been actually courting her for almost 2 years.

Its that red jacket! I vote for Lucas because he has been a true gentleman and patient as well as understanding and supportive of Elizabeth's writing skills! Nathan has been not shy but sour, unfriendly and self-centered, almost rude!

There are some long and intense comments posted on here. I have enjoyed reading many of them. Although I am Team Nathan and would be disappointed if she chooses Lucas, I am not going to stop watching the show because I enjoy it. The heart loves who it loves. I think we are all ready to move on and for Elizabeth to have love in her life. This is just a show. But it is a good wholesome show. There's not too many shows like it. I would love for Abigail (Lori Loughlin) and Cody to come back to Hope Valley. The possibilities for the storyline are endless!

Not a real good start to season 8. To say the least it was a bit boring and nothing to keep you coming back for more. Hoping episode 2 is better.

I waited the whole month of February to 21 to see the new episodes #8 and it turned out it was only on 9/8c I was so disappointed but maybe being in California it came on at 6 pm pacific coast time. So next Sunday I’ll watch at 6pm hallmark channel.

I JUST KNEW IT!! Just STOP already!! Nathan is such a decent person who would make a great dad, already raising his niece. I KNEW they’d brush off Elizabeth and Nathan’s hug 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Because she doesn't love Nathan the way that she loves Lucas. Remember Jack's ghost that's what she sees in front of her now she asked herself does she truly loves the man or the man she once love coming back to haunt her. If she gets with him it will remain her everyday about her feelings about Jack. If she chooses Nathan it's like the samething all over again do she want to go through that again and this time with baby Jack losing his father? I think not.

I would not characterize this episode as any type of CLIFFHANGER!!

Was hoping we would of seen something from them tonight

Right now she is giving Nathan the cold shoulder. I hoped this season she would go on a date with full focus. Nathan is handsome too. When she turned around and let Lucas 's mom get to her it irked me, because it was all about her and not Nathan. It was a moment of selfishness and proved that she had no thought for Nathan and his feelings. I hope she gives Nathan time getting to know him and find the good in him. Nathan is very handsome, and if she let's him go. I bet she will lose him, especially to Fiona who's running a Male Barber Shop. He who hesitates has lost. Will season 9 be moments of regret? .. ..

I don't think that Elizabeth would be as interested in Nathan is he wasn't a mountie who reminded her of "OUR FAVORITE MOUNTIE, Jack!" However, the reality is that Nathan will never be Jack and therefore, she should choose Lucas. She likes Lucas for who he is, not because of a uniform that he wears or because he's a substitute Jack!

Maybe Nathan saw Jack dying? Could be a good story.

I thought maybe Nathan was one of the guys that was saved by Jack. I have seen comments (not yours) about Jack returning but I don't like that idea. It would cause too much confusion. Everyone is ready to move on. I do like your idea.

Do we really need another Jack???? Everytime something goes wrong we will go through the same thing again. We need a change this season. Really you do. Have been a loyal, bought all the CD's, couldn't miss an episode fan. Please think about not having another rerun. Lucas can bring something new to the show.

I just had an afterthought about Lucas. When he first came to town no one trusted him and a lot of people said some unkind things to him yet he never replied with the same. When he met Allie he told her he was a loner as a child and shared how he overcame it. Nathan told him he was not a good fit for the town and he said that was the story of his life. Henry was probably besides Elizabeth the closes person he interacted with or considered his friend. When he and Henry stopped being partners that was a lost to him. His only close connection was Elizabeth. They spent a lot of time together so when he thought she had chosen Nathan that was devastating for him. Everyone in town has someone whether it's friend or family. Who does Lucas have? So to see Elizabeth hugging Nathan he had to leave because I really feels he loves her and now he's back to no one in Hope Valley just his mother we don't know much about his father or his full back story. Everyone knows when you love someone your world changes for the good when mutual but differently when it's not

Rooting for Lucas. He is again shows how wonderful he is and selfless. Elizabeth happiness is utmost important to him #TeamLucas

Okay, I am so mad honestly you don’t understand, if you like Lucas or Elizabeth you can just leave, Elizabeth is not even fair to Nathan, she can keep leading him on like this! It’s so mean to him and it’s not fair, when I saw the end of this episode I screamed till I lost my voice, I’m not joking, I am probably the biggest when calls the heart fan on the planet. Nathan deserves so much better, he should end up with Fiona, she is sweet and kinda, and wouldn’t lead Nathan on ( LIKE ELIZABETH IS) I am so sick of this and I am so mad you don’t understand, I sit in bed at night wondering what’s gonna happen, all I’m saying is NATHAN AND ALLIE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER, like this comment if you are on team Nathan for life. I hope Kevin McGary reads this and sees how much I love Nathan, and no matter what happens I will always love NATHAN

I was so happy for Nathan, and then things turned sour... Nathan and Elizabeth really care about each other. And I'm really hoping it'll turn into love this season.

Disappointed in this episode. Hardly anything was said about the hug and what Nathan went through. I hope this triangle affair ends soon. It has been way past due. I have to say I'm hoping for shy Nathan to come out on top

This is really how I feel as well... if her choice is Lucas, then I can’t bother to watch anymore (he’s like Charles and the lifestyle she left behind) WCTH was always about Elizabeth and a Mountie.... why did they put her in a love triangle with this saloon owner is beyond me... it’s just not a good fit for her imo.... just bring back Mountie Jack already (my joy in watching the show went away when they killed off Jack) I still watch, but with great sadness because their love story was the heart of the show and it’s just not the same for me

First of all! All the cast did such a great job making this episode/season during pandemic 😷 👏🏻👏🏻 (I know this is the first episode) but... I’m a little disappointed. Rosemary and Lee are the highlight of the show (for me) And Poor Elizabeth, she’s been through a LOT. I’m not a fan of either Nathan or Lucas as a match for Elizabeth. Nathan's boring. Not much emotion in his character. Lucas, meh i don’t like him either, he takes no interest in little jack at all. As much as I hate this triangle. She will choose Lucas or maybe I’m wrong. I don’t know. I’m just sick of it 😫 I don’t think I can continue watching this show. Or i don’t know, i have such a high hopes for this show. Just my opinion 🙃

It was rude for Elizabeth to act this way. If I was Nathan I would start looking at other women. Elizabeth should get over herself. I feel Lucas has the upper hand now. Nathan has to show her that he doe not play games. Wake up writers and put some more action and spice into the story line, it is becoming stale.

This makes you lose interest in When Calls The Heart, this is beginning to be like a dragged out soap opera! I thought the scripts would be her picking Nathan. Could of wrote in the script like she felt he was sent by Jack to protect her and he was meant for her and for them to fall in fall in love and be a family. After all he is another handsome gentleman man who truly cares for her and baby Jack. Would be great seeing she has the opportunity to find love in another mounted police who could heal her heart from the loss of Jack.

@@johnlarocco6950 I think jack trusted Nathan enough for him to be whatever Erin wanted Nathan to take his place in Erins and little jack life. But I think Nathan has to be more forward to let Erin know it’s her love he wants not just a caregiver.

I still want her with Lucas or noone right now. New actors I like too. Like for the guys to be friends.

Rude move on the part of Elizabeth. She belongs with Nathan not Lucas. Lucas is TOO pushy. The chemistry is so strong between Nathan and Elizabeth; not so obvious with Lucas. Lucas is a reminder of Elizabeth's past; Nathan represents her future especially in a family situation.

It was not a cliff hanger, it was Elizabeth acting younger than Jack...back then you mustered on. I wanted Nathan, now I prefer the girl to get Lucas...

Elizabeth is confused she went out with Lucas on a date not interruption. Now it's Nathan's turn she dishes him . Lucas owns a Salon . This does not merge with Elizabeth's characters. Nathan respects Elizabeth Lucas is brash. But it seems like Elizabeth likes bad boy.

The ending was horrible! It was so rude and very unkind of Elizabeth character! Maybe they need to move on...it’s starting to feel like beating a dead dog to death! I was so hopeful at last season’s finale! It would of been nice to just see her and Nathan developing their relationship instead of dragging Lucas in the picture! Very sad! Stop already with the triangle mess! It’s not working! I’m not even looking forward to the rest of the season! Too painful! It’s been turned into a very bad soap opera! Need better writers! Hey, Nathan, Fiona looks good. Lol 😆

Why would she hurt Nathsn, yet again, just because Lucus was with his Mother?

It was a record!!!!!!! I counted 51 commercials in the 1 hour program. Probably missed one or two. It's all about the money Another weak show when we actually got to watch it.

I think I'll add 2 cents here from a guy perspective. MOVE ON! I agree with other commentators, who feel this so-called "love triangle" is getting tedious and annoying. It's also taking away from the bigger picture of the other scenarios going on in Hope Valley. First off, etiquette from the turn of the previous century would never see an upstanding young single widow/school teacher in a small community consider a relationship with a...drum roll... SALOON OWNER, no matter how "nice" he is! Sorry folks, not gonna happen. Nathan is trying to raise his niece, who seriously needs a strong mother figure in her life. If she ends up with Lucas...I think we'll have to call this soap opera a dishonest, disjointed view of history and call it quits. Lucas is a heck of a nice guy, but he's also responsible for his choice of professions. I'm sure there's a nice bar maid out there someplace for him. :) Kidding aside, he'll find someone...just uh...not Elizabeth! PLEASE spare us the misery of that scenario from happening!
