So true that they don't make them like they used to, but when you think of The Andy Griffin show and Mayberry RFD ending, we were entering the turbulence of the 70s, and shows like them were considered passé.. This opened the door for Norman Lear at the start of the decade, and things have never been the same..there have been attempts to recapture the feeling, but never caught on again..

I never liked her but didn’t understand why until later in life when reading about things like this and I thought I must’ve tuned in on her real self

Frances Bavier was a bit of a curmudgeon. She didnt get along with Andy Griffith. One time Howard Morris was directing an episode when he got so angry with her that he needed to be physically restrained.

I heard George Lindsay refer to the umbrella incident on a Nashville live show with several other Mayberry actors. He said something to the effect, "l said an expletive. She hit me over the head with an umbrella and said, 'We don't do that'. I never did it again either".

@@TonyBoyOhBoy On the Nashville reunion Lindsay referred to it calmly, but in a joking-like manner. I tried to find that show on YT.

@TonyBoyOhBoy l found it--> *1990 TBS Andy Griffith Show Reunion* ...@25:41. You can hear straight from the horse's mouth. George Lindsay jokingly talked about his Frances Bavier incident. "She hit me over the head with an umbrella," he said to Jack Dodson (Howard Sprague) in a panel discussion with Don Knotts, Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), Howard Morris (Earnest T. Bass), and Hal Smith (Otis the drunk).

I think the reason why she agreed to be a part of the spin-off because Andy wouldn't be on it she turned down the movie for that reason. Aunt Bee's character was 💯 fake since age was a hateful and bitter woman from the start. She was all alone in the world and moved to Siler City never going out in public and willed everything to the city since she had no family. I wonder what happened to her 13 stray cats she took in at her death.

No no no...l read that Bavier as "Aunt Bee" played such a pivitol role in the structure of "Mayberry" that she was flattered when the producers practically "begged" her to re-do her role. She was the only actor be in "Mayberry" from start (1959) to almost finish (1969).
