No, this was a poor question, as the dictionary clearly has Sheet defined as a sail, as on a ship. It's also frequently used as the name of the rope that pulls the sail in, on a dinghy etc, so it has two meanings, both of which were answers. I bet they had complaints about it.

There’s certainly a pattern here, most or all the clips of the audience being wrong are after the contestant and has spoken about their instincts or after a phone a friend. You should ask the audience before uttering a word of what you think the answer might be

That Red Ensign question is a bastard of a question because it 'used' to be the flag of the Royal Navy but was later adopted by the merchant navy. Of course the White Ensign is now the official flag of the Royal Navy. A stinker of a question especially for a £4000 question.

True, as far as I'm aware Mad Max was his first movie, set In Australia and he had an Australian'ish accent and if Australia was an option I bet 75% would have picked it. So New Zealand appears the obvious answer. Unless you know.
