It's true. If you become sick or injured during your vacation time (with doctors note) you get your vacation days back because vacation is meant to relax and recharge but curing from a injury or sickness isn't relaxing or recharging at all. It's the opposite it costs a lot of energy. 👍

Getting your holiday refunded when you are ill is part of a social society... like parental leave or free studying, etc, etc...the things a lot of Americans seem to be soooo scared of😉
Mettbrötchen is German "meat sushi". Best with raw onions on top. The “Mett” is raw pork and should best eaten the same day it is prepared by a butcher. Personally, I wouldn't carry it around in a Tupperware container all day.

just little sidenote from me, in the US there are - because of MONEY is PASSION thinking - diffrent (worse) standards than in the EU - through the EU is Germany affected - therefore i would never eat US raw meat in the style of a mett ? - plus there are 2 camps for the "Mett": Camp A loves it and eats it at least monthly. and the Camp B is like I tried it once and I will never again eat such things except I starved for 2 days already I compare it to the Olives phenomen . one group loves the olives as snack and the other group hates the taste of olives at all.
12:15 Points at a Gothic feature and calls it "Renaissance". Points at another Gothic feature and calls it "Romanesque". Points at a Baroque feature and calls it "Gothic". 🤣🤣🤣
True. If you are ill, you are ill. It doesnt count as recreation from work. By law your employer must therefore give you back your holiday days. And everyone has almost unlimited sick days. Per illness 6 weeks 100% paid by the employer. If more than 6 weeks sick, you receive either 70% of your net salary or 90% of your gross salary from the health insurance. You cant be fired for illness either. It is generally very difficult to be fired in Germany. Only if the company downsizes or you commit really serious offences, but then you usually have to be warned first. If a employer wants to get rid of you, they have to negotiate a termination agreement with you and offer you a year of salary as a transitional allowance, for example. PS: If you ever in Germany, go into a butcher shop and ask for Mettbrötchen. Mett is raw minced pork that is specially monitored and prepared and must be eaten on the day of preparation. Like many Germans, I eat it at least once a week and never had food poisoning in my life, apart from a holiday in Thailand. PPS:The green shirt is awesome. 😁

We have a different work philosophy in Europe in general and in Germany in particular. Here the employer insists that you take your rest breaks and that you recover on your vacation so that you can continue to be productive at work.

Yes but I don't think this applies to high school teachers. They are only allowed to take days off when the students are also out of school. So getting ill in the middle of Summer break will not provide you extra days of vacation.
Vacation is about relaxation. When you're sick, you can't recover. Therefore, in the event of illness, vacation will be reimbursed provided there is a medical certificate. Other point: Mettbrötchen are phenomenal! really fresh mett on a buttered bread roll withe pepper , salt and fresh onions..I could kill someone for this! 😁😂

Church tax is not the churches paying taxes, it is a tax of 8-9% of your income tax (depending on the state you live in) that goes to the churches. Many people think it is based on the biblical "tithe" (the obligation for every christian to pay one tenth to the church), that was commonly collected in the middle ages, but this is not fully true. In the late 1700s (starting in Revolutionary France) many European countries (including much of Germany) got rid of this custom. But then Napoleon's troops secularised church land (i.e. disowned it and gave it to loyal noblemen) when they conquered Germany. When Napoleon was finallly defeated in 1803, nobility didn't want to give up that land, but instead decided that each duchy regularly had to pay reparations to the churches that had been disowned.

Of course it's true....vacation is relaxing and recharging, sick is a simple recovery....if I'm sick during my vacation, I'll go the doctor and get a sick note for my boss and I get my "recharging days" back
German (now European) windows are far superior to US windows. You can tilt them (as in the video) or open them like a door, so you can clean them from the inside! In addition, 3 - 4-pane glazing is standard.

The US guy´s channel is called NALF. He was an American football player, who got paid to move to Germany and play for a team over here.
Yep, and that is true for most of Europe. 14yrs ago i went skiing for a week, broke my wrist on day 2, 5 vacationdays left became sickdays. So in the end i only used 2 vacation days, which actually corresponds with reality. And yes maybe this makes some people fearless. In Belgium It is only if you are an employee tho. My father, who was an independent contracter, like anyone who is self employed, didnt benifit from this and specifically did not go skiing when i was a kid because if he broke a leg he couldnt work and there would be no income, or at least very little. Only workers are protected this extreme way, things have improved for selfemployed people in the last decade but it is still not on par. The reasoning used to be that self employed people have a diffzrent tax system and supposedly would have enough left to provide their own insurance, which is true for some but definitely not for all. Same goes for pensions and other social benifits, if you re self employed you're gonna get less from the states and better make sure you have a financial buffer of your own. If you want to be a businessowner it is better/easier in the US, for employees it is better/easier in EU. Both systems are inadequate so serve everyone equally and need adjustments from time to time.
Yes it´s true, the vacation thing, also in Austria the same ! If you get sick or injured during vacation you keep you´r days to consume later !
Yes, when you get sick during your vacation time, you get those days back. That is the law here.

to make it clear, you have to visit s doctor, and get a signed note which says you are sick as proof for the employers files.- and going to the doctor is the point where americans usually fail.
Same in Sweden,if you get sick on vacation days,it transforms to sick leave.Only 80% pay,but at least it's something and you save vacation days for later.

I love mett! Just Salt, Pepper and onions with it and on a Roll!! Delicious
Others have explained it already correctly: If you get sick during your vacation, your employer doesn't have to "pay you" but the sick days are added up to your vacation time. Vacation is meant to be a time of recreation. If you're sick, you're sick. There are no "sick days" either in Europe, I didn't even know the term until I started to work in Los Angeles. These are, by the way, not laws exclusively of Germany but EU laws. - Check out my community tab to see a nicer picture of a Mettbrötchen: Eating raw meat on bread rolls isn't only safe in Germany but a national snack! I love it!
LOL actually Nick got an Italian citizenship :D
The Employer will refund your vacation days, yes, that's the law.
You would be fearless or in other words, you would enjoy another kind of freedom than in the US ^^
Yes, this law was particularly useful during Corona. I also got my vacation days back when I was sick. All you need is a normal sick note from your family doctor. Being baptized in Germany is different than in the USA, if you are baptized here you have to pay church tax thats 9%. Unbaptized people do not have to pay this, I also think that it's not exactly a small amount.
when you fall sick during your holiday you cant fulfill the reason why your on holiday: relax and fill up your batteries. so if you fall sick or get injured you get your holiday days back to do that another time. by law. unionize folks.

Germans can have a foreign country health insurance for under 100 euros a year. It pays worldwide all bills for hospitals, doctors and medicine. Even higher costs because of going home to Germany sick or injured are refunded. Inside the EU we only need our german health insurance. Additionally many Germans are in an automobil club which gives you assistance when your car breaks down. Some of these offer free transportation to Germany by plane or helicopter if you are sick or ill or have had a car accident. You certainly need a big plan membership for this feature, but it's also just maybe 150 euros a year.
That spread isn't completely raw though. It's a pork liver paté and there is some cooking involved in the process. I think it's delicious. Especially on bread with a little bit of Marmite. Yum.

Liver paté would be Leberwurst,. This is Mettwurst, which actually is fine minced raw pork (usually served with onions on top)
@NormanTheDormantDoormat
17 күн бұрын
Mettbrötchen is NOT done with Mettwurst, it is made with raw Mett and no cooking involved. Mettwurst is made from Mett (duh) but is either smoked and matured for about a week or air dried. Only salt, onions and spices are added to "prepared minced pork" (Mett). It is intended for raw consumption; if the products are intended for consumption in a fully cooked state, this is made clear (e.g. by labelling them as "pork mince for frying"). Ham mince, which is made from the topside (the ham), is of particularly high quality. Unless packaged, mince may only be sold on the day of production in Germany in accordance with the Food Hygiene Ordinance or the Animal Food Hygiene Ordinance (Tier-LMHV).
If you have eaten salami, you have eaten raw pork.
You get the holiday back . Why would i have to take my vocation days if i am sick ? It is easy - inform the employer you have a thickness go to a doctor .

Don't eat raw chiken... that is a big "no no". Then never eat raw pork. You can eat raw fish but here in europe, the raw sushis are banned... the fish has to be frozen first so if there is parasites in them, they will be killed. With red meat, you are probably good with eating it raw (I like to treat myself with a "steak tartare")... but be carefull about the "game meat"
dudes, you don't know what you are talking about. visit germany and eat a mettbrötchen. the world will not be the same after that!
