Stephane Grappelli and Lonnie Donegan?? As a kid, I used to love this show but, now, as an adult I can really appreciate the calibre of entertainment they had on a regular basis. Also, I didn't realise how good Bernard Manning's voice was.

Granada Television put a lot of effort into making their studio look and feel like a working mens club. Viewers always comment that they were surprised to learn that it was in fact the main entertainment studio at Granada in Manchester.

What’s really telling, and leads on from that comment, is that Terri Rogers was trans. But that didn’t form any part of the (brilliant and hilarious) act and, ultimately, no one cared. Because the acts were there to entertain and that was all.

A very strong show. Stéphane Grappelli was good, as was the ventriloquist. And it's good to see Little and Large from the days when they were funny and making their name. I have no idea what Lonnie Donnigan was thinking of with that ridiculously overblown act he put on, though. It was like being assaulted. Not remotely engaging.
