Great collection Julie Ann, I was working at the Windmill Theatre Great Yarmouth in the late 60’s and 70’s, we had one Summer Season (16 Weeks) of Wheel Tappers and Shunters Club” Colin was the Compare. Great man, he had a desk with his dell on it, to the right of the stage. In the 2nd half he would come centre stage and do a 30 minute spot. Each night I would raise the centre mic stand by turn a handle connect to wire and pulley system. One night it jammed, Colin stood there looking towards the wings saying, “Arise Sir Mic” when suddenly the mic stand shot up in front of him. I thought that’s my job gone. When he came off I apologised to him explaining what had happened, he looked at me and said, “Stewart that was brilliant, keep it in every performance. The audience laughed so much they thought it was part of his act. Thank goodness when we showed him how it worked, he knew I could not replicate it every performance. Stage Set looked like a Pub. A truly funny man, at 71 I can still hear the laughter if I think of those great 16 week of my life. Thank you for sharing xxxxxx

I am 99% certain it was a Granada prop - this isn't a criticism of Colin but his character as the chairman on W&T wasn't exactly his own act he had been asked to almost plagiarise part of the act of one of the funniest comedians I ever met - also no longer with us... Norman Collier. For some reason (actually his face didn't fit with someone at Granada) Norman was never invited to be one of "The Comedians".

To be fair the old school guys material could be pretty blue when they performed live in night clubs etc . My parents saw Bernard Manning live in the late 70s and they said his material was pretty blue( albeit hilarious) to put it mildly, not to mention the overt racism. I'm not judging him , It was a different time with different set of standards in those days.

Colin lived in my hometown of Middleton in Manchester. At the place that I worked in 1974 we Installed some gates at the end of his drive. You could see that he was a real family man. He came out with tea and biscuits for my mate and I. He said ever so politely please could you be as quiet as you can as the baby isn't feeling too well.

Genuine story - a guy in the town where I lived got steaming drunk in the pub one night, and for some reason, decided to climb up on the top of one of those old, overhang type bus shelters. He's sat up there, cross legged, and a policeman came from around the corner, walking past. "Now then, what you doing up there?" he said. The drunk replied, "You won't believe this officer, but I just fell out of Supercar..."

If you read between the lines it was smutty/saucy postcard humour, but delivered tastefully, without the need for profanity.
Thank you, loved this, no smutty stuff, no swearing, just plain old good humour.

Thanks julie, found a new favorite thanks to you! RIP buddy.
I remember Colin so well from my teen years. So sad that he died early fifties :(. Thanks very much for uploading the compilatiion. Very enjoyable as always
Just brilliant !
This is brilliant.
A legend of the 1970s, he makes me roar with laughter!
He made us laugh, ... great guy
Great comic as were many who appeared on the "Comedians" loved him as the host on "Wheeltappers and shunters club" as well. Happy memories pre political correctness when we could laugh at each other and ourselves!

After 10 months of lockdown, his haircut is better than mine.

Seemed a lovely bloke.
Superb Colin was class comedian sadly missed went too soon
Cheers Julie, Colin is a legend. I love all your uploads. x
What a great entertainer, he works with his audience and kind of talks to them as friends not as a paying crowd on a nights work ( if you know what I mean) so called comedians of today are so false !!
The combover to end all combovers. 😂
He does things with the language what a funny man, seems so easy but worked at it I bet.
Brilliant comedian. He was taken far too young. Loved him in "Wheeltappers" ringing that bell. Hilarious stuff. I was 16 in 1974.

Proof you can be funny without using the F word. We don’t produce comedy legends like this anymore and we are all the more sad for it 😢

Watched & had a good laugh !!! Thanks so much for taking the time to post.
What a nice bloke he used to go my local the Lancashire Fold Middleton
The joke at 9:26 - I've got an LP by Max Miller recorded in 1961, in which he tells a version of it. He tells it very well, but Colin Crompton stretches it right out it, and tells it beautifully!
Loved his hair style!!
the finest combforward in the history of the 70s lol
Wow, that is what I call a comb over👍
Genuine story - a guy in the town where I lived got steaming drunk in the pub one night, and for some reason, decided to climb up on the top of one of those old, overhang type bus shelters. He's sat up there, cross legged, and a policeman came from around the corner, walking past. "Now then, what you doing up there?" he said. The drunk replied, "You won't believe this officer, but I just fell out of Supercar..."
9:26 - I nearly weed myself, from the East Lancs to Southport to the 2' 6d. Comedy gold
No rudeness, no swearing. Just a great comedian.
Thank you.
The Nicotine stained fingers🤢different times, simpler times. Thank you for this content it brings back some lovely memories
I'm from Morecambe and I find him funny!
The best joke of all is this guy's hairstyle; fucking hilarious 😂
Best comb over ever
Astonishing comb forward barnet.
Awesome
Brilliant comedian very funny.
I love the comments on here Julie, thanks so much for this ❤️❤️
Great bloke, a met him in the 70s shuck his hand and got a signed photo, and still got it 👍
great made me laugh
Classic
Bless him.
I used to really like him but had forgotten all about him! I was born at the end of 1973 so was 11 when he died. all of the comics around then were great now the great ones are all gone and the ones that are actually funny are far and few between!
