How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a KZread channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

Never had auto steering back in the 70s when I was working for farmers, but I do remember cultivating potatoes in a 4230 in August of 77 when the bosses wife told everyone over the radio that Elvis had died, 🤤

The batwing sure does clean up the pastures, add green fertilizer and tons of fresh feed. Your first planting system saved the day on the mis applied fertilizer. Your going to sell a bunch of units one demo at a time. It's great to see smart manufacturers use great channels instead of agencies to market good products. Rhino Ag has to be most pleased with the way there equipment works on the farms. Super products. Now for JCB to make you a hell of a deal. Good luck

We farmed 1000+ acres in the 60's and 70's in South Central Iowa with two JD 4020 Diesels and never had GPS or auto-steer and we got along fine without it. You don't overlap on field passes if you are doing your job. But if you can afford it and want it then it's fine for you to have auto-steer. I would rather put my extra money into things that make more money though .... maybe buy some extra cows or land or something.

Different strokes for different folks! The Amish farm without tractors, but I wouldn’t want to do it. The times they are a changing. After farming with auto steer for a few years, I wouldn’t want to be without it either. Maybe you can drive without overlap, but most of us cannot, and forget about hiring a new guy with your ability! Auto steer allows the rookie to drive as accurately as the guy with forty years experience. And since he doesn’t have to concentrate on driving, he might even pay a bit more attention to the equipment he is pulling.

@@mikelloyd2013 Yes the times they are a changing and not for the better. Like utterly ridiculous bull crap like computerized emission controls on tractors that will shut the engine down to save the planet from "global warming" if some sensor goes out. Then you have to call the John Deere dealership to get them to send a "technician" (they aren't mechanics anymore) out at $110 an hour to plug his laptop into the stupid thing to get it running again. Neighbor had a new green tractor that was giving him fits one day few years back. He decided he had enough of it went and bought an rusty old 1978 4840 a retired farmer down the road parked in a fence row 20 years ago when the 8 speed Jerkomatic went out at 12,000 hours and the Deere dealer quoted him more than the whole tractor was worth to fix it. He paid the old guy what it was worth as scrap dragged it home fixed the power shift, overhauled the engine and called the tire man to come put some new shoes on that old horse and put it work. I think he is still running it and the new computerized, emission controlled, plastic, POS went to an auction. LOL

For the newer models it's pretty simple: The first number is the model, the next three are the engine size in HP. The letter tells you something about the capabilities / price level of the tractor in the family. For example: The 5065E is a 65-engine horsepower tractor. When compared to other models in the 5 family of tractors, the 5065E has fewer capabilities while a 5065M has greater capabilities. How the old system used to work is a mystery to me. I don't think there really was any logic behind it back then.

Robert S you know you say all we do is play on our phones but some of us will focus more concentration on what implement, Crop flow, or booms are doing depending what we do with auto steer, it does help out do our jobs more efficiently, as you say young people text and drive I’ve seen plenty of older people text and drive as well and as a farmer nowadays we all have to talk or text one the phone to each other
