Wheelipod-A photographer's mobility aid

Фильм және анимация

I have a long-time, creative, photography friend who now has reduced mobility and struggles with an essential tremor. I wanted to help my friend to continue to enjoy outdoor photography so I designed and built a device to hold a camera on a walking frame and be easy to operate.
This video shows the prototype device in action. The concept is ripe for further development and improvement. I hope that it provides food for thought and encourages others who work with their hands to make similar devices for other photographers.
This Wheelipod uses parts from a discarded Manfrotto tripod. Tripods or monopod from other makers would, no doubt, also be useful to create versions of the wheelipod.

Brilliant design and creation! A very caring friend, you are, Rob, and inspiring you are, to others, in showing how deep you care for Robyn! I love the various moments of the video, showcase your very special avian friends. They seem to follow you, wherever you are, and in whatever project you undertake!

What a fantastic idea. I'm 71 with a bad back but luckily no other mobility issues. I use a small folding wagon to pack extra gear like bodies, lenses, tripod, snacks and drinks. I've used it mostly on walking paths but have taken it out on the beach and some very rugged hiking paths. Still that is a great idea and wonderful piece of kit for anyone that has mobility issues.

Thanks, Sophie. You must have big wheels on your wagon; essential for rough terrain. We've noticed that small-wheeled walking frames are not really suitable for this application. I wish you well.

Rob, that is absolutely fantastic, and Robyn must be super excited! She inspired many styles of photos we enjoyed to experiment with, as a soft blurred "action" photo. Your caring and talent to create this for her is to be commended. Respect to you both!

That is fantastic. I have to use arm crutches and occasionally a walking frame and I wondered how i could possibly do anything with the camera on days that my disability is not allowing me my mobility. Wow That is wonderful. Very thoughtful of you to help your friend like that. Im going to see what I can come up with you have inspired me to find my own solution thank you.

Hi Rob, nice video. I feel as though there is variation with your current design where the friend who can still walk with the help of the mobility aid gets to location but then is able to sit down and swing the camera around (say on a gimbal mount) to use from a sitting position, so the chair acts as a tripod.
