Wheelchair Hiking at Grand Canyon | RVing out West & Boondocking in Kaibab National Forest

Over three years of full time rving and we finally made it to the Grand Canyon! (after driving near it several times)
It is more amazing than we ever imagined and much more wheelchair accessible than we expected. Much of the South Rim Trail is paved and wheelchair accessible, and there are many other paved trails throughout the park. Atlhough hiking into the canyon isn't an option, there are great views and wheelchair accessible buses to take you around.
While at the Grand Canyon we stayed just a few miles away in Kaibab National Forest (for FREE), and basically had the forest to ourselves with a few elk as neighbors.

We appreciate your comments so much. When we started documenting our lives one of the biggest reasons was to show everybody that disabled people can lead perfectly normal and totally awesome lives. And it’s great to hear that Grand Canyon is on your bucket list. We weren’t sure what to expect as far as accessibility so we only planned for three days there. But now we will definitely be going back to take in more of the trails and amazing views

Fantastic as always! The last few videos, I've been thinking about how much Alex has grown over the past year or so, so I chuckled when Brian mentioned her getting taller. Kind of wonder if she is going to end up the tallest in the family.

You’re very observant, Alex has grown about 3 inches in the past year. And now she’s at the age when Makenna had her big growth spurt.... so we’re curious to see how tall she’ll be.

Imagine my surprise when we pulled in to our Harvest Host near Branson, Mo and saw your motor home there! We are new to full time RVing, but have been watching KZread videos on it for about a year to prepare. I've come across yours several times and watched your adventures. We are so excited to begin our new journey! Stay safe and venture on!

I enjoyed your video and seeing what you were able to do while at the Grand Canyon. Have you thought about getting a Permobil SmartDrive? I use one with the Switchcontrol buttons in latched mode (even when going up the ramp into my van). I also have the watch control, but never use it as it isn’t as reliable as the Switchcontrol for my needs. It’s only 12 1/5 lbs and can be removed very quickly and easily from your wheelchair and put it back on when needed. I have impingements and tendinosis in both of my shoulders, so without my SmartDrive I would be forced to a power wheelchair (which I do not like using). I’m currently using the SmartDrive with my WCMX Box Wheelchair which is a sport wheelchair with full suspension. So, the bump when going off or on a curb isn’t so hard on my back.

Thats great that you get so much added mobility from SmartDrive. I have tested one out at an abilities expo in the past, and I know a few people who use them, and they are amazing. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
