    Regarding Moirainne knowing that there are rumors of four taveren in the Two Rivers... most likely information gathered by the Blues' eyes and ears network. These spy networks are quite extensive and information is spread quickly (carrier birds for instance).

    I was definitely having trouble absorbing the major changes to the story. Watching this video was a big help in letting go of trying to figure out how to reconcile the TV show with the books and just enjoy the ride. They've done an excellent job bringing the characters I'd followed across 23 years through Tarmon Gai'don and numerous re-reads. I watched this video and then rewatched the opening 3 episodes with a new perspective. And the fourth episode truly brought me to tears. Thank you Loren

    Totally agree! I’m not a purist but (many book to film productions I appreciate very much) but at first the changes in the story, characters and details shocked me, as I just finished the book series for the second time recently everything was still fresh in my mind. I even stopped watching after the second episode. But if you let go of the idea it’s a book remake and just look at it with the idea it’s a new cycle within the wheel of time universe then it’s actually a very good tv show!

The way you explain the story deviations with such patience and welcoming attitude to both new fans and book lovers. It just feels right, I wish many book lovers that are bombing the series would just give it time to develop and then after the 1st season we all can have a nicr discussion like the old days. Emond's Field exists in this turning, too! The Trivia section on Amazon explains that Emond's Field is one of the villages that makes up the Two Rivers, and the official Extras explain that Taren Ferry is part of the larger Two Rivers. Bran and Marin are co-innkeepers also per the descriptions from X-Ray and Rafe. :)

    I asked about the matches during The Innkeepers’ after-show show with Prime. I actually got an answer from Prime. They said that Tam bought the matches from the illuminators guild . I didnt get an answer when I then pointed out that Aludra haven’t invented matches yet. Interesting though that they mentioned the Illuminators, that could mean we actually get them soonish, or that they read the books I suppose….. Good video as allways man

    maybe he series has all the events happening maybe 3 or 4 years later. maybe Alludra, who had not sold the matches yet when the guys were young, stayed as an illuminator. And then started selllin them. if the series events are happening some years later. The iluminators of cairhien could still been working. Allura could have created the matches and use the illuminators to sell them. Nothing else has happened like a certain invasión. Just an idea of how could be. Edit: Edited to explain myself better.

  • @paulramen2535

    @@Rafdi13 By that logic Aludra is allready kicked out of The illuminators guild due to something that "didn't happen yet" in Cairhien, and most of the land is now controlled by Seanchan and they're allready fighting the Dark ones Forces? We can age people up but we can't let the same things have happened while we weren't looking, is my point. It's certainly not a big thing, and that is my second point. Please make alot of changes if they are needed for the TV-medium but this change didn't seem needed as they could easily have let the villagers use flint/steel, or sandbox with embers or even a twig taken from an allready burning fire/lantern to light the lanterns. No biggie, still loving that we get to see this show. Just a pet peeve of mine.

    This may be the definitive analysis of the series so far, and I don't just say that because I agree with every point you brought up XD. I like that you bring up the primary criticisms and calmly respond to them, defending the points expertly. Your presentation and clear knowledge of the source material lend a gravitas to your analysis that makes it stand out from the rest of the videos I've seen from book fans. It's a shame that there are as many purists who hate on this, you'd think that people as well versed in the source would see what's being done here, but I guess it's just another example of not seeing the forest for the trees. It's not exactly like the books, no, but it absolutely maintains the spine and heart. **POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!** So far, there is only one thing that I feel has been a true mis-step, and that's including Egwene as a potential dragon. I can accept her as a ta'veren, but I feel like having a woman be a potential dragon neuters the dread associated with the dragon being a channeler. This has nothing to do with gender politics and power imbalance, we all know Egwene's story and outcome and she's one of my favorite characters because of it, but in this instance the dragon MUST be a man who can channel otherwise why would people fear the dragon breaking the world again? I think it also lessens Egwene's own accomplishments. I said I can accept her as ta'veren, but I'm not particularly fond of that choice. She grows through her own abilities and choices, and I don't like the idea of her being fated or forced by the wheel's weavings into the positions she eventually ends up in. I guess whether or not this becomes a true issue will depend on how they end up explaining and portraying Ta'veren, so I'm kind of in a "wait and see" mode on this one. Again, thank you so much for your analysis. I'll probably point others to this video if (or rather, when) I end up getting into arguments about the merits of the show. XD

    I love that it's clear he took his time and didn't rush the content. ❤️ I also agree with Egwene. The dragon is a risk because he could go mad from the taint, or would be fearful of Aes Sedai as a man who can channel and wouldn't cooperate. The Ta'veren thing also takes away some of Egwene's agency as you rightly said.

  • @TheJordanK

    @TheJordanK

    2 жыл бұрын

    I’ll disagree with you on the Egwene thing based solely (for now) on the fact that it’s not that big deal. Moiraine is already begun the teaching of Egwene. Even if Moiraine says “the 4 of you” the show is clearly not making that a big deal. Every non reader speculation I’ve seen (too many by now) they barely even consider her an option. It genuinely does feel like a red herring, marketing play, whatever ppl want to call it. I see it as Moiraine using the 3 oaths to convince them to follow her without more explanation than needs be. And maybe on the slimmest of slimmest chances she’s just going the extra mile to cover her bases. But basically I think it’s such a small deal and after season 1 or maybe earlier everyone will know who it is and no one will even think about it anymore. It won’t have any affect on what Egwene does later on and what her story means. It’s just an interest generator IMO and it give it a tad more mystery. BUT. That’s only based on what I’ve seen so far. That could very well change with new episodes.

    They've deliberately held some of the two rivers scenes back in order to draw out the mystery around the dragon's identity. Expect a flashback in episode 7 or 8 to a key scene that happened immediately after the attack, but wasn't shown in the pilot.

    I knew when this video graced my timeline, I just had to watch and comment. I greatly appreciate the effort put into this as I've read and seen a lot of "hate" for the adaptation of the book. Maybe that's too much of a word, and though I understand the disappointment in some of the fans, I also applaud the production, the actors, the energy, and the magic of the series. I find your content insightful and helpful to someone like me, a slow reader who chanced upon a pile of books that his brother collected through the years. Hi! Just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying your coverage, thanks 👍. Btw, as for the ancient buildings/structures from the age of legends, there are ruins throughout our world that are thousands of years old(pyramids, temples statues etc) that remain relatively intact. Gotta love that ancient workmanship!😁😆

    First time viewer, subscribed. Great job breaking things down. Only review I've found so far that matches my thoughts and in a format that captures the emotion and adventure of the story. Will keep watching and look forward to more, where we agree and enjoy, but also where we disagree. Cheers

    Great video as always. I've already sent it to a group of people. Also, I wanted to bring up something that I've been screaming about but no one is listening. When we see Mat in the background with the cage and Thom slides into the side of the frame in the foreground they play a few guitar notes. This is very similar to how we could hear Ennio Morricone music when someone like Clint Eastwood slide into frame in the foreground and readying his revolver for a shoot-out. I think they are going to make Thom into a somewhat old gunslinger (although he'll be throwing knives instead of shooting guns). Honestly, go back to the Thom scenes and picture Clint Eastwood in a western while in his 50s, it's spot on. THOM IS A GUNSLINGER.

    Well done as always sir. You need to have a far greater following due to the quality of your content. Best out there for WoT in my humble opinion. I got chills watching the "Weep for Menetheron" short. That was a brilliant addition by whomever decided to include it in the xray portion. Wild Laila darkfriend theory, may or may not be due to some mis-led servant of light calling into the Dusty Wheel during the after show. I ain't sayin no names.

    Lauren, this video is so amazing. I have been looking forward to your episode recap since last Friday. My anticipation was so high as other content creators rushed to be the first to post, their reviews were incomplete, lacked the passion your videos bring, and left me disappointed. Your video was so well put together and is the single best review of the series seen to-date. I hope more watchers of the show will discover your content. I can’t wait for episode 4, but I will patiently await your review. Thanks for taking your time and producing quality, well-thought out reviews. Bravo!!
