WHATS IN THE BOX? TAMIYA 60768 1/72, KAWANISHI N1K1-Ja SHIDEN TYPE 11. LAND OF THE RISING SUN WEEK

Ойын-сауық

I hope you enjoy this video. This is my seventy fourth "WHATS IN THE BOX" kit review and I hope to be completing this model when i have the necessary skills to do it the justice it deserves in a bout 10 years time. I have a model collection/stash of 33-40 1/72 Spitfires which i am currently building badly for the amusement or to the annoyance of my fellow KZreadrs, As my competence levels are not sufficient to complete this model it will be held in reserve for when i deem the time is right. If you would like to see the of 33 Spitfires there is a link to my collection below. As a novice modeller my intention is to learn the various assembly techniques and skills required, especially that of painting, so as i can produce half decent looking models, I concluded the best way to do this is to start with something simple, personally i think the best way to learn a new skill is repetition; try, try and try again. Hopefully by completing these 33 Spitfire models i will learn a few tricks of the trade. Whilst doing this I am also hoping to improve my VERY basic KZread skills, so far just uploading these videos has resulted in tantrums of titanic proportions, yes unfortunately i am also techno-phobic.
Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Please like and subscribe and follow me on my ride!

Andy, you should enjoy this, the sort of kit Tamiya made their reputation on, simple but well detailed. Japan had some great fighters near the end of the war, but always a year later than needed, with only poorly trained pilots and low quality fuel available.

You are right, all the modernish Tamiya's went together very well, TBH the ancient ones weren't that bad either.

I'll just be happy to shed the "novice" from my channel name and change it to something more befitting of a man of my talents, something like "mediocre" i am thinking LOL.

Great detail for a 1/72 as expected from Tamiya. I'm falling behind on the videos Andy, you certainly put them up faster than I can watch them :) Great job.

Hi @fotograf736 It is a really nice kit, will be doing the Tamiya Seiran float plane tomorrow then unfortunately the chaotic schedule will be ending as i have to go back to work, boo hoo. I will be finishing these off and returning to my incomplete "Dirty Dozen" spitfires over the next few weeks, though will try and do a WITB review most days that i am in work, luckily i work 4 on 4 off so will do my best to keep you entertained LOL.

Another excellent Tamiya kit. Incidentally, the 'N' of the designation indicates floatplane fighter, which the original variant was. The real aircraft had 4x20mm high velocity cannon which would make short work of a Hellcat or Corsair, unlike the 7.7mm machine guns of the Zero. It was one of those aircraft that made an ordinary pilot good and a good one great-that is, at least when the engine was working perfectly. The N1K2kai, with the low wings and simplified, lighter construction was the ultimate version. Hasegawa do one of these in 1/72.

Hi Andy . Well yet another lovely Tamiya kit, I would not expect anything less. It looks like the Japanese spies were busy, that is a P47 Thunderbolt in everything but name. I don,t know much about its performance . The only aircraft anyone hears about is the Zero. Theres not enough information about Japanese aircraft, but you can bet that it was fast manoeuvrable and dangerous to have behind you. The roundels look like a couple are of a slightly different size. But hey with them and one of the kits yesterday where there was a lot it will be more for your spares stash, always useful. Anyway I know that this kit will go together well so all I will say is have fun painting it. Good luck bud.

Job done, little bit of Mister surfacer 500 required on where the upper wings meet the fuselage, sand that off paint after lunch.

Hi Andy. That book that I mentioned is called German secret bomber projects. I can,t remember who the pulisher is though. They did a few versions of this book on a similar theme, American and British bombers. I think that they also did books on secret fightef aircraft too. Very interesting books. They even have a section on the Arado E-555 and other aircraft of the same types. Lots of Arado's,Junkers,Heinkels and Messerschmitts. Some of the four engine projects are scary. Prop versions and jets. I will have to try and find my copy and have another look at it. I hope that you can find it with my feeble description of it.Good luck bud.

Andy, you just can't beat a Tamiya kit, even the older kits and 1/72. Efficient quality molding and everything you need on one sprue . I'm currently in a rut for some unknown reason. It seems to revolve around cockpit and pilots in 1/72. I've only got 5 kits in my " que " all Airfix 1/72. I'm thinking not to worry about cockpits and pilots anymore, get some Cadbury chocolate and model on :-) Cheers Bob.

I cheated with the last three......opened them all up, did the cockpits in one sitting. cockpit canopies on the other hand, £%&?/+! them.......i'm trading my collection in for WW1

@@TheNoviceModeller totally agree, I like WW1 aircraft too, but they can be harder to build because of that darn rigging, the kits don't provide any help in the instructions And a 1/72 is super tiny. I did do a multiple fast build years ago and painted the inside of the canopies sky blue to make them look like those " custom made" kits. So didn't have to screw around with interiors. Didn't look too bad. But I need more patience as you do pay for that when you buy the kit Cheers Bob.

Would you consider 1/48 scale kits of japan origin? Otaki and other kits from the era hold a special place in my modeling heart.

Hello @jpgabobo TBH i do not have any 1/48 kits though i have been thinking about trying one or two, have never heard of Otaki and i do like trying different manufacturers, seeing as they have a special place in your heart, i have bought a KI43 Oscar, I will be finishing my "Japanese Marathon" tomorrow and returning to work, and i do have a whole load of other kits to get through, but be sure it will be on the bench at some point, probably sooner rather than later. best regards andy
