In the cologne region (especially right now in the carnival time) we have "bützen" oder "a Bützche". This is a kiss on the cheek in the street carnival. Often leaving a mark of red lipstick on the other person's cheek.

That's what she meant when she said that doing it the french way could be misunderstood in German, since "französisch" is a common euphemism for doing exactly that. Like in the German joke: Ich kann gut französisch, nur mit der Sprache hapert's. (I'm good at "French", I just don't speak the language well).

The most Romatisch Kuss of my life (by far) happened in the grounds of a hospital I was a patiennt in at the time in Munich in the Summer of 1985! To cut a very crazy & romantic story short- I gave her a tiny peck on the lips then backed away I was so nervous. She laughed said "why did you stop?" then came back at me for a quite wonderful french (german!) version. At this very moment there was a great gust of wind and hundreds of pink petals from a tree above us fell around us as we kissed! This really happened. Her name was Andrea, she was so funny & so very beautiful. It went from love at first sight a few days before to even more 'love at first kiss' on that unforgettable day. My leg was aching & in plaster but I did'nt care. Sometimes if you are incredibly lucky real moments of magic in our lives are better than any Hollywood Ronantic Comedy could ever be...thanks again Trixi... 🤗🇩🇪🙏⚘

Saint Valentine's Day has been 14 February , set by the Catholic Church way back, across much of the Christian world for centuries. Many of the dates in the Christian calendar tended to be placed over earlier festivals so people still had their festivals but in a Christianised (I may have made that word up) version. To get to the point, apologies, February 14 is pretty widespread for Valentine's Day. How it is observed probably differs slightly.

Valentine's day is much less of a big thing in Germany than in the U.S., but the flower and chocolate industry have been pushing for about 40 years to make it more popular in Germany and at least between younger couples, it is nowadays quite common do something romantic for Valentine's day, too. So if a German youtuber uploads something with a romantic topic on Valentine's day, you can usually assume that it isn't a coincidence.

Französisch is either French, as in language or as an abbreviated version of French Kiss (French = Französisch) as in oral sex. As in blow job, licking the fence post, swallowing the tube, kissing the trouser snake, or many other such colloquialisms. So if you ask your German girlfriend for Französisch on the first date she might be a bit peeved.

Den Nasenkuss kenne ich als DDR Kind als Eskimo Kuss. Ob das stimmt weiss ich aber nicht. Zumindest hat meine Mom mir das so erzählt :) French Kiss ist aber von allem mein Favorit 😅

Seufzen means to sigh dreamily. At least in this context. It means "to sigh" and can also be used in a more negative way like sighing cuz of stress.
