"As a biologist, I can tell you snails don't pinch you like this one does." I think this is my favorite "As a biologist" line you've done 😂

A hermit crab! A wild hermit crab! ❤ I have had a bunch of these as pets, but never seen a wild one and that one was so pretty! ❤ I'm glad I got to see one.

@@UnderASwiftSunrise That would be me LOL I always find some neat little animal and want to bring them home. I'm 36, almost 37 now, but I've had so many different pets LOL Mom always had one rule for me as a kid though - if I didn't know how to take care of it, I wasn't allowed to bring it home. The last few hermit crabs I had, the one used to climb on top of the climbing stick and would purposely fall down onto the others for some reason. It wasn't smooth bark, she could have easily held on - I don't know if she liked the noise the shells made or what but she was a blast to watch

@@pixiethebug Same, but I grew up on a ranch and was always bringing stuff home. My mom would let us keep an animal, usually a reptile or bug, for a couple days and then release them where we found them. Is it a wonder I became a biologist? 😁

I used to have hermit crabs as a kid too.. Definitely got my fingers pinched a few times, and when they pinched, they did not let go until the spot they pinched was purple lol..
That was a truly intimidating and mysterious creature that you found! 🤣

@HomemadeEcosystems Have you considered red harvester ants for an ant farm? My brothers and I collected them as kids and held them in jars of sand for a few days before releasing them. Those guys are workaholics! Even without a queen they built tunnels, collected and ate the insects we gave them and generally started building their ant metropolis before we let them go. They were always doing something. Your black ants are slackers compared to harvester ants.

I love whip spiders, also called tailless scorpions, they're neat and actually not spiders, but they look like spiders with arms and it's pretty funny.
I particularly like your dry, sarcastic commentary.
Even though I don’t like bugs you have managed to make your content extremely good and binge-worthy good job 👍
Love the humor! And all the critters you find are adorable!
1:21 OH MY GOD HES SO GODDAMN COOL!!!
In log 1 and 2, there were Conehead Termites. The individuals with pointy heads/ have a long "nose" are soldiers, which spray acid from the "nose"(or Nasus) as a form of defence against ants, which can be found in the subfamilies of Nasute termites(Nasutitermitinae) and Mandibulate Nasute Termites(Syntermitinae). This weapon is so effective that in some ants fear some species.
Your jokes are great, please keep it up.
That landmine joke got me.
When i saw the spider teleport towards the camera i shook my leg away.
Don't feel too bad. I was going for a walk and noticed an ant/beetle with a huge bottom. I picked it up and looked it over. It was pretty chill, and after a while I put it back on the bark of a tree. Went home to look it up, found out it was an oil beetle. It taught me not to just put my hands out to any bug who was willing to go on my hands anymore.. lol.
I can literally watch these all day 😂😂😂😂
The first minute and you're whipping out great jokes already. Had me laughing! (You're whipping it out just like your dad- gottem) 2:10 I hate it here. LOL

I am in this video at 1:27. It was great working with you on this project to teach basketball to poor South American spiders.
Whip spideers used to scare the poops out of me. When i was in Panama, a huge one would hang out in our shower at night. It would go ballistic when i shined a light on it, terrifying! Then i found out they aren't even venomous. Now i want a pet one 🥰

Log number five indeed was crazy, I think this one lives here where I'm from as well. fun fact, I think they seek shelter in cars, mine has a few of these once every now and then. unfortunally you can not really see them until you definately do not want them there, they will come and ruin your day and usually only disappear after you've done some questionable things.
The next minute you don't know if they are on you or not. So fun. 😅😅😅

I was picking through some junk wood by a levee and I found this solifugae like no other. Sorta looked like a Jerusalem cricket but it had a head that looked like a weapon, and it was extremely aggressive. This was no cricket. Held its front legs out in defense just like a scorpion would, and held it hindquarters up like it had a stinger, but it did not. By far the weirdest thing this thing did was it hissed at me. Like a snake. Needless to say I left the thing alone. I could not find the species on the web, but other spiders like it are reported to be able to bite through solid bone.

@@HomemadeEcosystems Is that a joke. I spent some time in the high desert and we had these solifugae they called them Vingaroons. They hang out on ceilings and accidentally dive bomb people. I guess to hitch a ride? Anyways if this happens sometimes you freak out, they freak out, and bite. I saw a ton of them. Dude told me if you get bit by one its really painful and makes your mouth taste like vinegar for a few days. Hence the name.
