it’s a beautiful thing when we get to the point where we can struggle in life and yet not be knee-deep in our eating disorders

This is something I’ve subconsciously struggled with and I think we all do to an extent at some point in our lives . It can feel like there’s an invisible timer to ‘get it sorted ‘ and endless ‘what ifs’. The brutal fact is ruminating won’t change anything and you’ve got to accept the version of you that tries their best everyday , even if that seems inferior to the ‘dream you’. ✨✨💫😊

This makes so much sense to me and can relate to feeling worse for having rested almost too much, wallowing in self pity rather than having a go at completing a simple task like having a wash. I’m going to make it my challenge this week to be the best version of myself at least once a day and I’ll let you know how it goes. Thank you! 💚

I feel comforted and motivated after watching this video. I’ve been hella anxious lately. Even though I do make changes to my life that help me feel a lot happier, it is and was hard. Nevertheless, it helped me to finally acknowledge that I have trauma (possibly even ptsd, but it’s only a self-diagnosis as of now) and need help to cope with it and take my life back. I also love that you’ve gently asked yourself “what would the best version of me do”. I, too, have experienced that if I do more throughout the day, I feel mentally better at the end. I’m rumbling quite a bit, but thank you so much!

i love this. I feel sort of disconnected to the 'do it for little you' mindset and motivator in recovery right now so this could perhaps give me a different boost to try. Doing things as if I were my best self is more achievable to me because in a way - recovery is practising this day after day. We wake up and choose recovery every day to try to be our best self; to get to the point where we can live and be free. The little things seem hard often lately though. So taking it one simple action and productive mind shift at a time (like Ro did in this video), seems like something I can do. Thanks for taking us on this journey with you Ro. Loving seeing how you find ways to stay consistent when motivation lulls. Appreciate you muchly xooxox

Somehow I fell off watching your videos - and then today I was reading back through my gratitude journal - and I kept mentioning your name. So I came back to catch up and this video is so exactly what I needed it’s actually ridiculous 😂 - as I watched this I got up, cleaned up - made my bed and I just really do need to “Get on with it.” I really do. Sweetest most amazing Ro - every single time you care for yourself or share your struggles or your wins - you are lifting so many. I’ve learned so much from you - beaten my eating disorder - and I so desperately need the gentle reminders that struggling and being human are fine - and how to care for myself - and treat myself with love - in even the smallest of ways. The PEACE you bring. I hope you make videos for your entire life. You were born to make others feel at ease - safe in just being a little human trying to be ok. You do this by simply caring for yourself in small ways and just by TRYING. It’s so small - but it’s everything.

Im 34 but im exactly the same. Im single, I live alone. Ive been so constantly overwhelmed for like 3 years. And it got to the point where I got blank mind and could barely do anything and stayed at home, fighting to do simple tasks bc of the level of pressure of what was expected of me and what I wanted out of life. Now I'm in recovery trying to enjoy simple things and rebuild my life from scratch. I totally understand that feeling but it also makes good days so appreciated by me. I can see yr a deep thinker like me & it causes this, but taking time for rest is so important for deep thinkers!

You ARE doing everything right for you, even when it doesn't feel like it. Sometimes, all we can do is all we can do. PLEASE be gentle with yourself. Everything is going to be fine.

I relate to your struggles so much. For me it has been the balance between being gentle and kind with myself and being strict and disciplined. None of the extreme forms work for me. I can’t be too soft bc that makes me drop every routine and Habit that helps me stay healthy and it destroys my ability to work. On the other hand being too hard on myself is definitely not good for me, it destroys my happiness and my inner critic gets really nasty. I‘ve been trying to imagine that I was making these decisions for child me or a good friend, it helps me to allow relaxation while also maintaining thins that are good for me. I’m totally not there yet but even identifying the issue was quite the process so I guess it’s going well. I will totally try out your version with the best self. I love how you described her as healthy and happy, so much of our culture is about striving to be more successful, disciplined, to have a certain body type.

During this time I’ve also been going to group therapy which also helped me tremendously. Now I’d like your opinion on when to stop going to therapy. I sense that the other people in my group aren’t as far in recovery as i am and that i don’t see any additional benefits since i haven’t had issues with food for a couple of months now. I also feel like the hard part is over and that i can take recovery into my own hands. I’d really like your advice and opinion on this. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day :)

The best version of you will do whatever you can ♥Nobody is perfect and we all struggle. It's what makes us human. My struggle is my eating disorder, being overweight, and struggling to love myself and work hard to lose the weight. I have no motivation to work on it. Anyone else relate? ♥

I'm in a toxic household and feel awful right now, I'm really really struggling to get anything done because it's the summer holidays and I have nowhere safe to go. This helped a LOT. If I were happy, loved and safe, how would I act? That's how I'm going to start behaving

I think there are two things that have been really helpful getting out of a rut: i) Ask the question "What will make me feel better? Doing thing A that I don't want to do or not doing it?" The answer is usually the same. Asking yourself this question helps you remind that you have a choice and that the choice has an impact on how you feel. Rather than that things just happen (or don't happen), you can make you feel better. It's difficult in the beginning, but because the outcome is always the same, it becomes easier to make the better decision. ii) Keep a journal of what you did during the day (not of what you need to do). Include everything that is relevant to you that day. Of course write down big things you get done, but don't forget about the small things or the things that weren't on your 'to do'-list, but still took time out of your day. Been postponing washing your hair, but you did it today? Great! Write it down. Relaxed outside in the sun with a cup of tea for an hour? Keep note of it. It's not wasted time! Sometimes we feel like we didn't do anything in a day, but we did small things that took up a lot of energy, or we did things that are not productive, but are still important. Acknowledging this is very helpful to me. And if I haven't written down anything yet, it's a great motivation to go do at least one thing. It usually helps to get things going.

I start feeling listless and unmotivated too when I don't have external deadlines placed on me from coursework or a job. It doesn't have to be some really high stress unhealthy deadline, but just something. You're so young and seem so smart. I do hope you eventually get back into some sort of educational program to provide that type of structure and discipline to your day and help you expand the possibilities of your future endeavors. None of us love the idea of those external pressures but we do all need it IMO.

nope i agree that i definitely work best with external pressures. unfortunately at the moment i just cannot work a ‘normal job’ bc i basically can’t leave the house much - but as humans it’s very hard just to motivate ourselves i think x

This is the video equivalent of a warm blanket / hot tea on a cold day ❤️ Thank you so much for filming. I’m currently in early recovery and requiring a lot of support to get through the basics; my parents and I watch your videos with every meal - it almost feels like having another person in my recovery team 💕 I know you’ve touched on this across previous videos, but I was wondering whether you’d consider a video on the competitive aspect of anorexia, as I feel it’s an ugly side of the illness that doesn’t get talked about much. Things like seeing very visibly unwell people in the street (or on IG), or accounts that preach recovery whilst remaining very underweight (and make many question their own validity). If this was something you struggled with, I’d love to hear your thoughts - and more specifically, how / if it changed as you progressed throughout recovery (did it get worse, then better? How did / do you disengage?). But obviously, no pressure WHATSOEVER. i appreciate you - and all you do - so much xxx

I just wanted to say a big "I am proud of you" as you step into early recovery. You are right, there are so many unhelpful "recovery" accounts on social media. Please protect your space from any person on there who doesn't fill your recovery with all the right things it needs to feel supported. Ro is perfect. Your future self will thank you xx
