WHAT WILL I SHOOT? | Candlepin Ball vs. Tenpin Bowling Pins

Спорт

What happens when you throw a Candlepin ball against a set of tenpin bowling pins?! That's about 37 pounds of pins vs. maybe 3 pounds of ball. This should be fun, what will I bowl for a full game?!?!

    After bowling tenpins for 38 years, I switched to candlepins. It's a completely different sport - nothing I knew about tenpin bowling and delivery worked at all for candlepins. I basically had to relearn how to bowl, both physically and mentally. You have to deal with shooting under 100 and throwing NO MARKS for an entire game sometimes, with 6 splits. Brutal. Strikes? Forget it. You might get ONE per night.

    Try our game once. Like all small ball bowling. Candlepin especially is much more difficult than ten pin. My candlepin average is around 113. The pros average 125-135. There has never been a 300 game, ever. We in the candlepin community would love to see the PBA televise their pro take on our pros,maybe during their Maine events.

    BrunsNick, if you ever find yourself in Edmonton Alberta Canada, ill take you 5 pin bowling. Fun fact though, you can hook those balls. That's how I get the 2 corner pins (7 and 10 in 10 pin) and have coached people on how to do it. Maybe I'll record a KZread video to show the process, though I've been very focused on 10 pin these last 6 months. I even won some money at a torney. You're also holding and throwing the ball wrong. Good effort though!

  • @gwencrawford737
    @gwencrawford7375 күн бұрын

    The candlepin ball weight is a shade over 2 pounds. You want to go down and in... basically a rocket to the pocket from 1 to 17 1/2 to give yourself the best chance. It's a game of toppling the pins, and doing it in a way that keeps the ball in the pack of pins rather than banking to the channel. When I was a little girl... too little really to do anything but two-hand chuck an 8 pounder on a regulation lane, my father used to take my sister and I to a community rec center, that had the OLD lanes, with full sized pins, and the old manual-actuated pin spotters. For kicks, my dad got a couple of the "ball bowler" machine balls, from a friend of his who owned an arcade machine business, and that's what we'd use. That wound up being 1 pound balls vs the 37 pounds of pins at the rack. Dad could set the pins for us, and sis and I would have a blast trying to knock the pins down, while developing our 4 step approaches. The lanes were never oiled or cared for all that well, beyond getting dust-mopped every so often. So we started off about 15 feet away, and as we got better and older, we moved back, until we were throwing the full length. Even when we started bowling regularly in the bowling enters with full sized equipment, we'd still visit that rec center as we grew up, until the place closed and got razed for development. So... yeah... I got a lot of experience bowling with a small ball vs a full rack. That's also why I'm VERY good with the straight game and spares. Small ball or full size... I can pick any single pin area of the rack at will. That keeps me in the hunt on a lot of games where other bowlers are struggling.
