MID-PERFORMANCE? UH, NO! | Hammer Scorpion Strike

Спорт

Some bowling balls are gifted. They just bring a lot of value because they outperform what is typically expected from its performance category. The Scorpion Strike is one of those bowling balls. Watch the video and you'll understand why.

With the help of SPECTO data, it'll help tell the story about reaction shape, overall hook and continuation through the pins. Here are the SPECTO data points used and definition of each term:
Launch Speed - Speed measured off the hand.
Entry Speed - Speed measured at the pins. (What you'd see on your home center MPH screens)
Rev Rate - Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)
Launch Angle - The angle the ball traveled the first 10 feet.
Break Point Position - Board at which the ball was at its outermost position.
Total Hook - Total number of boards the ball crosses on the way to the pins.
Hook Power - Number of boards the ball hooked based from the True Breakpoint.
Entry Angle - The angle of the ball between 51 and 55 feet.
Impact Angle - The angle of the ball between 57 and 59.5 feet.
Pin Deck Exit - Ball position at the end of the pin deck.

Nick, I once had a pin slide into the channel while upright, bounce off the wall and back into the channel, then settle back on the lane standing up - this occurred in game 1. In game 3 I had a pin richochet off the wall sideways but stand up spinning like crazy, eventually coming to a stop about 3 feet in front of the sweep and in front of the 3 pin. I didn't cry but came real close - two of the most unlucky breaks occurring on the same night. It happened nearly 50 years ago but I remembrer it like yesterday. Ugh!!!

About 40 years ago my dad had a pin come out of the pit on a strike, go through the sweep and stand up in the middle of the lane. 3 months ago I had the headpin hit the left wall and stand up where the 7 pin was. I normally video my practices but wasn't that time.

About a decade ago, I had a pin bounce out of the pit after a flush strike, only to dance and spin around across the pin deck and settle in on the 2-pin spot. On the outside, I was laughing in shock and disbelief…but internally, I wanted to fight somebody.

Looking at my Scorpion Sting, Scorpion Hybrid and Scorpion LF wondering where this new Scorpion fits into my arsenal... I know my wallet doesn't need a new ball that doesn't do something really different from what I already own. Love the colors and am very curious about adding an HK22 into my collection but I may pass on this one. I am very happy with my Sting so I don't think I need a replacement for that. I do love those colors though. Hammer has some of the best looking balls on the market. My green smoke Web Pearl is beautiful and a very solid performer as well.

Nick, I don't know your capabilities when doing these reviews or if this has been mentioned before, but I think a lot of bowlers would like to see this. It would be awesome if you could do almost like a split review where you have a sport or challenge shot on another lane. The reason I mention this is because a few months ago, I bowled on a super flat sport pattern for the first time, and balls that were generally smooth and continuous on a house shot for me became super angular and violent. However, many people throwing weaker balls than what I was using such as the red Tundra Fire, NU Blue, and Endeavor where really successful. Your videos are super informative already, and they're basically the verdict when it comes to me choosing a new ball, especially since I throw a similar ballspeed and revrate to you. However, it would be very helpful to see how balls perform in vastly different environments in the reviews, and I would feel more informed in my decision making prior to buying a new ball. Thanks!

Moisture from your breath makes the thumbhole tackier to give them a little more grip, to prevent the ball from slipping off their hand. I personally can't stand moisture getting in my...*ahem* hole. I try not to grip the ball too much with the thumb anyway.
