What will I find at the Quarry? Opening my Gemstone Mine for 2024!
www.danhurdprospecting.com/shop
I mine a very unique semi precious Gemstone known as BC Ocean Picture Stone. Ocean Picture Stone is a blue Chalcedony / Listwanite mix that makes perfect, naturally occurring ocean scenes. This stone is only found in one place in the world. And I run a private quarry mining this stone. Time to open up the mine for the year!

I don't want to steal your claim, I just want to find the camera and walk around in a bigfoot costume in front of them playing a tuba.

17:08 looks like a stormy ocean scene! As an artist I love it. There is no better artist than mother nature.
You have a good kid, Dan. All around beautiful family you've got. All of the gold and gems in the world couldn't compare to how rich you must feel when you stand on your front porch looking in.

as much as I like watching the gold panning I LOVE the mineral hunting! Great finds and interesting to see the darker blue now
So much fun watching you guys hunt for the ocean picture stone! It’s like treasure hunting.
That is so beautiful rocks. Great job on the finds
I just stumbled on your channel You are the most positive person I can remember ever seeing and it's a joy to watch your videos
Dan you really hit a jackpot on that claim for sure. And i love seeing you and your family all working as a team. I do the same when i get ro go out tio
That last piece dropped my jaw. Sooooo beautiful. Mother Nature sure is an awesome artist.
Dan, I wish I could be your helper for free just to learn and enjoy being outdoors. Looks so fun!!!
HOOOLY Evan has grown! Man, growing up I heard that a lot from family about myself but experiencing it first hand over a good 5 ish years is something else. Love the ocean picture stones too! Keep it up, Dan :)
What a great day for you and your family at your claim! Beautiful rocks!
Some of those look like scenes from the big sky of the grand canyon, New Mexico, or states like wyoming and montana

Wow, such gorgeous stone!🤍💙🤎
Grit in the morning, Love it! Dan Hurd, he eats chalcedony for breakfast! Haha!
That new darker blue is great! And a couple of those pieces had tide pools in them.
I'm glad to see that you started being patient with the wedges, you'll get better results in the end. I've heard rocks crack after a couple of minutes on their own.
That's awesome Dan thank you for sharing this six stars
That slab at the end reminded me of looking over the horizon in Moab, Utah. Great finds!
I love the almost musical note the wedges make as they're driven in.
The last few minutes of this video with the rough cloud tops over the cut ocean picture stone are amazing!😳🙂 It’s a work of art in stone, nice one Dan!😉
I sure found some nice pieces didn't I? 😂 Good lookin stuff Dan!
Dan is like the Bob Ross of lapidary. Outstanding
The chisels can be sharpened with a grinder, just keep it cool so it doesn't soften. Also, Be very careful, it looks like you have a stone angel in your garden.
Evan, you've become a grown man now since I last saw you. The last time I saw you was when I subscribed to your YT channel...
28:27 VERY good Plan Dan!!! due diligence!!!
I love the sounds the feather and wedges make
Hey Dan, All I can say is WOW...those oceans scenes are just gorgeous! Amazing stone!
@26:22 that piece is freaking Gorgeous!!
Me too! I would love to see Dan and his family at the Colorado gem & mineral expo/show
Perfect Sunday evening wine down 🤘🏿
I had hoped to buy some of this, maybe someday, what a beautiful stone to be working with.
You give me the word and I’ll fly out asap
Oh my goodness. That is the most amazing material I have ever seen.
with these ocean picture stones you should look into getting into stores around tourist beach destinations
Me too! I would love to see Dan and his family at the Colorado gem & mineral expo/show! Selfies & of course to purchase!!!
Hello from Detroit Michigan USA thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and for taking us on your adventures through time and geology
That was fantastic, Dan. Can't wait to see more from Evan's seam.
I love the sound the feather and wedge makes!
Luck? That magical, invisible force that picks winners and losers? Sounds like a myth. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" Carl Sagan. The irony is not lost on me. You're an extremely blessed man to share a common interest with your significant other. I had never seen this rock before you showed me, and I am extremely impressed with it.
OMG that last one with the clouds was SUPERB! nice work brother in the north
Beautiful stuff Dan! Have fun this season and thanks taking us along with y'all.
Think that pendant @ 4:59 is the one you showed me in Courtenay. It is even more beautiful when seen in person.
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: I have a couple of pieces of jewelry from your ocean picture jasper! They are my favorites! Please keep it coming... because I want more!
Just beautiful. Some of the pieces from Evan’s collection look like closeup images from the space station. 😍
Ocean Picture Stone really is the Perfect name for your stone Dan. Just Amazing!
Beautiful B.C.O.P.S! I love that feather-and-wedge music too! Looked like a great time with the fam as well! Great job Evan! 👍🏻 That big rock that took all of the time to cut, has to the the best slab you have ever shown. Those cumulonimbus clouds are absolutely perfect! An amazingly beautiful stone! WOW!
Hey Dan have you tried using a gas powered masonry demo saw to remove the rock? You could saw along where you want it to break and then use the feather and wedges if the saw doesn’t break it. I think that would be a whole lot easier.
@Danhurd
26 күн бұрын
Cutting solid Chalcedony with that saw would take HUGE amounts of time. Yes it would get bigger pieces, but I would just have to break down those bigger pieces to cut anyhow..... Overall time to extract would go way up.

Good critical thinking!
A portable diamond saw could help you cut some of the choice stones to break the way you want prior to your feather and wedges
Amazing episode sir! Beautiful stuff!!
I appreciate how people post ideas and evryone respects all the thinking and weigh the pros and cons without being artogant pompous or angry. I worked in a university in pediatric genetics and the phd's were respectful like that. The even listened to the custodian on his ideas. Great minds work together!!!
24.01 That is a Rocky Mountain snowscape right there!! ❤. Greetings from a new subscriber in Victoria 🇨🇦
I would love to go rock digging, but where I live in Texas is all sugar sand! It was beachfront property several millions of years ago. I've had a couple of geology courses many years ago in college, which taught me enough to give me the rock hound bug!
Greetings from the BIG SKY.
Ow wow, I so wished we could get this in the UK. It’s beautiful
Great material Dan.
this is going to be another amazing video
28:16 Definitely my favorite cut of this video.
I need the one with the white clouds edge of the stone. Omg it was amazing
Amazing cut stone Dan. Glad you, Dana and Evan had such a great time.
I would love to come and help and learn sometime I’m planning a trip to Colorado next week

Beautiful
23:02 I see you hammering and it reminds me of my youth, I use to be called lightning with a hammer….aka never hit same place twice..
One of these days I'll get around to purchasing one from your site. So beautiful!

Wow, amazing peices!
That last piece was absolutely beautiful love the bc picture stone videos there my favorites thank you dan for showing the world rock hounding can be so much fun
I love these pieces so much, my grandma used to make paintings before she passed and the rocks that you find look so similar, it brings back good memories. Thank you for all the mazing content you put out! It always brightens up my day :)
That ocean picture stone is outstanding. I thought it was a picture. The one with the clouds omg. It’s the first time I’ve seen this type of rocks
Beautiful! So happy for you. Thank you, Sir.
Hello
very nice show...thamk you
Nice day in the mountains
Lovely ocean 💙 meteorites channel Derbyshire England 🇬🇧
They are sooo pretty!
I wonder how well a hand-held, gas powered masonry chop saw with a diamond blade would work to cut out nice, symmetric pieces? I have zero experience doing what Dan is doing, and I don’t know if Canada has some funky laws against it, but if the overburden gets raked away, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work
Should get yourself a hammer attachment for the rotor hammer. Also a tapered but instead of chisels.
