Harvest time is upon us and I’ve got another new permission…. Over 1,000 acres but I was immediately drawn to this field with medieval trackways and crop marks and 🤩 what a day!!

The half penny with the hole in it could have been a child’s toy. Here in the US, people would drill a hole in a small denomination coin, and put a string through the hole. The child would use it by spinning the coin and allowing it to run the distance of the string. Obviously, this was before widespread manufacture of children’s toys.

Never seen this but what I have seen is a large cent with two holes in it they would use as a “wizer”
Wow, John, the hammered silver coin is fantastic for sure. Even the toasted Turners are awesome to find. Looks like you will have a good number of finds coming up in these new fields. Cheers from Texas, and excited to see what comes next.

I hope he was over the moon with it! Onwards John, we want to see more!! Much love to you and the family. 😘😘 Chez in Lliria Valencia Spain 😘😘
Excellent day out in the fields. You’ll have one happy farmer with your beautiful silver 😍🤩
it's so fun to tag-a-long with you as you discover bits of history. Great day! Congrats on the new permission!

Thanks for watching and for the suggestion! Sounds like a good shout to me! See you on the next dig!
Not only did they have lead pipe work, but, they found that by reducing fruit juice to ⅓ its original volume in lead lined vats, it produced a syrupy which was quite pleasurable to the taste. They called it Sapa and it contained vastly dangerous levels if lead acetate. The amount of recipes which called for its use was quite staggering. They believe that in the 4th century, there were recipe books for which ⅕ of all recipes contained Sapa. Eventually, they figured out how to create the crystalline form if this lead sugar which only enhanced its reach. Apparently, come the end of the empire, they were by then well aware if the dangers of lead consumption, but, by then it was too late. They believe, as you quite rightly point out, that their downfall could quite possibly be related to the effects of accumulated buildup of lead throughout the body of many of their peoples throughout their extended empire.

Beautiful hammered. Congrats! Here in the states, I hear told that it was cheaper to use a big penny for a washer than to buy expensive washers. I just realized that at those early dates, it could have been one of my ancestors who dropped it. Okay, that is just a weird thought. It's the heat. 108f at my house in the hills of s central Texas.
Snap! Nice hammered there John. I am amazed that only a few days ago on my permission I also unearthed the same hammered Lizzy 1st Sixpence 1567. My first hammered off this permission. The coin is in great condition too with a lot of detail. Still buzzing with my find. I am out tomorrow with high hopes for another. You got a great new permission there bud. All the best and HH.

Butter fingers John 😂 lovely big hammy well done mate 🤩
Nice silver John great hammered looks like there will be heaps to be found by what has turned up in such a short time Can hear the excitement in your voice from the first beep Hear in Western Australia I detected local beach a day or so back , found a Samsung S21 Mobil phone it was a tad damp but mange’s to charge it enough to switch on the owner had sent a phone number to it encase it was found , was lost for three days , needle in a hay stack but it was there lucky day , it’s so good to return item to the owner , and see there amassment, lady was so happy Happy hunting Mike
Looks like a great permission John. Very nice Hammy 👌
Crikey Jock, whit a coin tae find. Elizabeth the 1st, from the late 1500’s. Whit a fantastic find son. Well done 👍👍
Great fines John and well done for your the commentary. hope more to come from this new permission ROBERT
Great hunt, great finds really enjoyed the video. 🇺🇸
That bar on the Garret is a pain!!! Really enjoyed watching this John. You know the tag you found at 29:51, I found one on my permission which had 3/4 stamped on the back!! Not sure what they were used for. What a find!!! Lovely silver coin mate. Very jealous.👏👏This coincides with me finding two pieces of silver on my permission today. Not coins, one small piece hallmarked 1907, the other on the other side of the field totally blank and I thought it was tin. Kept it with my good finds and did the foil test. My son said it smelt like a fart!!!🤣🤣That's good enough for me.🤣🤣I would appreciate it if you could let me know what cameras you use please John.👍👍
Nice finds! The coin with the hole may have been used as a spinner toy, put some string through and spin the coin.
A find like that makes up for those days when all you get is junk! As always another great video whatever you find I always enjoy watching them.
Come across your channels and gained a subscription you definitely know your history. Many metal detectors don't . Keep up the digging buddy!
Brilliant John you make even the routine finds exciting
That looks like a pretty good field to work, congratulations!
Absolutely craking finds. Nicely done!

Hi, fabulous day digging bet the farmer will be pleased. Perhaps the museum could help with the 'A' coin, I haven't a clue, ha ha but I could imagine all of us pressed close to the screen trying to see the details on those coins. Great video, thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
