Hello from Northern California! I am a retired RN, recently disabled, I have never done any metal detecting and never knew I would be interested in it. I found your channel simply by accident when you had about 9000 subscribers. I subscribed because of how you explained the history of what you were finding and I found it fascinating. Your personality is also easy to relate to because you are just being a genuine person. I applaud your success when finding a treasure and your growing KZread following! Thank you for providing many hours of entertainment and for your efforts at making good content. I always look forward to your next video and want you to know that they really help me get through some days when I am having a hard time with my chronic pain condition. Thank you, ( you’ll never know how your positive attitude can touch people you’ll never meet💕)

I love listening to your knowledge of history and I personally wouldn't call it waffling on. Even on days when you don't find much, it is still enjoyable to watch. Thank you again for your videos, your content is amazing.
“Some sort of thing, for doing stuff” 😂
You can ramble on all you want to. I have learned more about the history of the UK, in the matter of fact, the United States in the last three years listening to you.

The guy who just found the 350 coin hoard, when asked if he had advice for detectorists, said "Dig iron." The start of his hoard find was masked by iron.
John i had a look online the charles 1 looks like a silver penny the half groat had '11' to the right of his head
Nice bonus day you haven't had like that in a while. I have a front porch toad named Boris. He is a whopper. I had to get the dogs a different water bowl out because due to the drought, most evenings Boris uses it as his water bed. Funny critter.
Keep on waffling, my Scottish Detectorist friend. To me, you’re not waffling at all. I cherish, still being able to learn something new, while enjoying your prose. Frankly, I could watch DD or the H boys to enjoy the detecting, but I just don’t learn anything new, so I wait for you. Blessings and thanks, my Scottish Detectorist friend.
That spike with the ring on it at the twenty minute mark looks a great deal like the ones found here in our area when I have made an old oak tree into firewood. The spike was driven into a tree and the ring was a secure way to tie your buggy horse securely in place. As the tree ages the sap wood grows over the entire device, burying it until the tree either falls or is cut down for whatever reason. Saw the wood into blocks, split those blocks into firewood and you just might find one or more of these tie rings. I have personally found a dozen or so of them splitting firewood, and when you find one you often find a half dozen in one tree. I actually found one in my wood stove amongst the ashes, obviously left there when the wood burned away.

We used oak tree to hang people from exclusively. 'A fellons oak' , rings also served as a rope hold.
That half crown looks like it could been dropped yesterday, nice finds today congrats
Good evening John, it was fantastic to meet you recently at detectival. What a gent. Your scotish tours are truly amazing. Thank you for allowing me to get a photo with you.
5 pints of ale..what a nightmare of a loss...that got me to chuckle out loud

@@thescottishdetectorist Be assured, that isn't at all true. At the ancient age of 63 I'm a complete newbie to all this and I am in awe of your knowledge. I've been watching your videos for a few months while I ummed and ahhed about whether to give detecting a go as a hobby (knackered knees v love of history). But your enthusiasm and story-telling encouraged me to just get on with it. Two days in and I dug up my first coin yesterday - a George III half penny, I think. What a thrill! I also think I may have dug up either a small Roman or mediaeval lead weight. So thank you - you may well have played a huge part in opening up a whole new chapter in my life. Respect!
great day at the office john i enjoy it well done you
Beautiful finds John, congrats, always amazing to find historical silver coins!
Gorgeous George never lets you down🤩 Amazing day I didn’t want you to go home either! Go Jenny for starting that riot, I think I like her 😂🪑You made Mr Toad a home 😂❤ 🐸I spy someone’s blue badge of awesomeness in the back of your car!
Fantastic outing John, very well done. 🤩🤩🤩
I believe the iron item with ring is an old agricultural linch or lynch pin. Well done keep those videos coming

Love your history lessons with the detecting! My favourite history of all…British. Thank you. May you find many silvers and golds!
You never waffle on as we enjoy listening to your knowledge. Good luck at detectival. Look forward to seeing and hearing about “the Scottish detectorist’s” and co finds and adventures. Safe travels
You are correct, the re-coinage took place from 1860. the Pennies got smaller and thinner and changed from Copper to Bronze. The date moved from the obverse to the reverse.

My mother's lineage is Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English. Her maiden name is Elliott. I for one, truly enjoy the UK history lessons and if I travel to Scotland, I plan on taking one of your tours. Thank you, and please continue the informative history lessons.
Absolutely magic pal
Cracking day there John. I didn't know about the riots or war of the bishops leading to the civil war. Very interesting. I'm certain that Charles coin is a penny. They did make silver pennies and two peaces. I've been lucky enough to find a Charles II silver Maundy two pence coin.
Waffle on and on…I’m also in Northern California, semi-retired therapist fighting cancer and find your voice explaining you discoveries soothing at the end of the day. Thank you for the therapy you provide. God bless. 💜🙏

John you were do for a great day! Congratulations and thank you for the history lessons.
I love the very old silver, but although I’m only 61 I still think of things like pennies, shillings, thrupennies and hae’pennies spendables as you call them, in the 60’s as young children we’d catch grandpa coming home from the local on a Saturday afternoon and he’d give us all his pennies for ice lollies! I’m too young for farthings so excited to see those!
So amazing John. How lucky you are. So are we for being able to watch.
Great finds. The head on the first silver coin looks like a worn 1 gulden from around 1840 william of Orange
Great on the silver coin , you had a great day john . Keep swinging 😊
"I wasnae there five minutes... and bang! came saxpence..." ;-)
Right John that's me all caught up I've watched every single video of you detecting now and just love the history lessons every time it's great to learn something about the monarch's or be re told so it sticks in my head. Love the half crown what a belter!! Can't wait for the next video keep up the hard work mate and thanks for sharing 👍
Early Charles II coins were hammered and he faced to the left. From 1663 Charles faced to the right and these were milled.

1625 to 1649 silver penny and quite rare. What a find. Well done you
GREAT day! Congratulations to you.
WOOHOO! What a pleasant surprise! Wait for it…ok, I’ll await your intro to here about your detector of choice…oh, there you are, the DEUSS II. Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee.
Well done mate. Really pleased for you. What a worthwhile day out. Great find with the Charles 1 penny & the nice half a crown. Enjoyable stuff. Bless up 👊
Oddly, I found a hammered Charles1st Scottish coin (thistle on the back) here in Devon last month. Makes you wonder. Great watch as ever.

Quite a great day of digging John. Wonderful finds!
A great dig with a lovely lot of finds, most enjoyable, cheers John.
Waffle as you like my friend. It's why I subscribed to your channel.
The cartwheel penny was so called because of the rim on both sides, as well as the size and weight. There was a Cartwheel 1/2d, 1d and 2d, each one double the weight of the one below. (I have one of each in my collection, they are copper)

So many interesting finds! Loved the Charles 1st silver. Even the mystery blank one is interesting! Thank you for all the history info too!
Hi from Romania. I like how you talk about coins and history bravo.
Excellent enjoyed it we don't mind what you view love the video
What some beautiful finds. Love your videos.. thanks
Thank you for taking us along on a day of detecting. A nice day with no rain and lots of silver. What more could you ask for? Thank you for making these videos. I enjoy both of your channels.
Amazing finds John! No wonder you didn't want to go home. Thank you for sharing your adventures and knowledge with us - keep waffling on 🙂
Feel free to continue to share the history. That’s part of what I love about your videos!
Bloody good content, mate. Keep on keeping on 👍🏻🇦🇺
Iron ring with that attachment, was probably a ringed spike to be hammered into a gate post so that a gate or an animal could be secured to the post.
Decimalisation started in 1971 however the first decimal coins were introduced as early as 1968 to ease people into the transition with 5p equal to 1 shilling and 10p half a crown 😎
In a quiet field like that, you should try to detect with the Deep HC program, even more as you have access to the 34x28 coil. But I am also partial, I really do not like how Sensitive program 3 sounds like. By the way, the Romanov family was murdered in July 1918. Nice silver coins. Will there be another video before Detectival?
That thing with the fork on the end may be a nail puller.
What a channel....just started back up detecting and I must say that is one hell of a permission you have.....looking forward to more video's from there

Hi John, i got a bit behind so have binge watched and caught up. You've had some wonderful outings lately. I hope detectorville goes well. 😊😊
Awesome hunt what great finds! Awesome day for you, As to waffling on, please do! love the Scottish accent and the commentary sometimes sounds a bit aussie as in, you said, The dodgy target, another tool, some sort of thing for doing stuff, it made me laugh, would love to see it cleaned, does it have a maker's mark on it ? same on the spoon handle i thought i could see number's ?. Nice to see gorgeous George's on a silver for a change the colour suit's him, Woohoo yay, so love the dialect you use, wee lookie and ock weell, anyhoo cheer's from down under
There is a silver penny of Charles I. Spink 2845. It depends on the size.
What a great outing!! 3 silvers in one day is pretty sweet. The farm equipment nowadays is amazing. My grand-dad told me about reaping wheat with a scythe and shocking it. I remember following the baler and throwing the square bales up on a wagon, and then conveying into the hayloft. Hardest work I've ever done and I'm a roofer!! Technology has come a long way in a hundred years. Do you have a favorite whiskey? A single malt, I'd assume, since you couldn't remember blended. LOL Thanks
Really interesting waffle about the civil war 👍

Hi US, from Somerset, UK.
Hey John- I think that ring with keylike hanging off it. It may be a stake that's hammered into a big stone or boulder, and used to tie or secure things to. Cannot remember what they are called.sorry a tie down??
Hi John the ring thingy the point bit is banged into the wall the ring is to tether a horse

I find the old iron items interesting, anything old with history is interesting to me!
Fantastic day John, really interesting finds. I really enjoy the back stories you give too, brings the context alive. Suddenly the landscape is full of people.
Some great finds I believe the tool could be a NAIL lifter ? Then I have visions of it being used for tappets ?
very interesting bits of history, thanks
your excitement in your finds is so wonderful
Great hunt John 🤩
Almost 33k now and 10k views in a day! Shows how much people are interested in your finds, as am I! Always a great time watching and seeing you discover coins or something that's a couple hundred years or older! Great video as always :)
What great finds. Good job! Never know when those ubiquitous George V pennies will show up. Found one about 35 yrs ago lying in the dust at my feet exiting my car outside a small convenience store on the Eastern Rd, Nassau, Bahamas. One can speculate enormously on how it arrived there!!!😂
First silver love token
