QUADRUPLE SILVER - ROMAN - And I’ve discovered a forgotten 300 year old love story - XP DEUS 2
Well what a day!
Another epic detecting adventure. Silver four times, Roman and a 300 year old long lost romance!
And to top it all a phone call from The BBC to invite me on their show….. LIVE….. hence the reason why I didn’t manage to film in the light-box!!
What an adventure!!

Aha! Amazing 🤩 thanks for the info!
The 10 cents coin does say Canada on it. 10 cents is 1/10 of a dollar.
11:50 - 1870 - 1901 Victoria Ten Cent / Dime from Canada BTW, you should include a sequence at the end of your videos, showing the artifacts cleaned. The love token was incredible. Best regards.

Item at min 4-40. Not certain but resembles an hinged silver top from a ink bottle as found on a clerk or a gentleman's desk and a quill dipped in to it
Ahh..... Saturday morning with The Scottish Detectorist! You Beauty!! As soon as I saw "CENTS", I knew it was Canadian. Possibly a token of affection worn by a Canadian soldier during WW1.

Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend. Ah yes…another Blessed day of watching you find really cool finds…and hearing you berate yourself for your forgetfulness…lol. If this old man in northeast Tennessee did the same…I’d never get anything done, other than noting my forgetfulness. Great content, John, as always. Thanks for sharing.
Silver is easy to determine heat one end with a lighter and instantly the heat travels to your fingers, silver is the most conductive of metals.

Perfectly worded.
Hiya, my husband (a retired compositor) says the rectangular piece of metal with the lines is a slug from a Linotype machine.
The object with the circle at the top and threads on the other end might well be a reins guide from a buggy or wagon - a cool find !!!
The variety of objects you find never ceases to amaze me. The dome-shaped item filled with lead could be a free-standing candle holder, missing its wax drip-tray.
Could you do a segment at the end, showing everything cleaned up? The “thingy’s”, junk and relics always intrigue me so much! Beautiful coins and that love token is the best I’ve ever seen! What a great day!

@@thescottishdetectorist thank you! I’m always curious if some “thingy’s” turn up to be older than expected, and what they may have been for. Also, just a question, is it normal for people detecting to keep all the actual trash, like ring pulls, to bin them so they don’t get a signal in the future?
There’s a pilgrims badge of St. Andrew in St. Andrew’s Museum, might be worth a look.

Amazing!! I think I might have seen it but I’ll go take a look next time I’m there
Hey John, you were right - the Canadian dime IS a British coin which was minted in either London at Tower Mint or Heatons in Birmingham then shipped over to Canada. The date is below the word CENTS and it's really messed up due to the folds. You can see the remnants of it, a 18 then a misshapen 9 or an inverted 6 imprint? The Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa wasn't founded until 1908 so all QV coins were British and used a bun-head Victoria obverse.

wow find of the day the love token john
A great days detecting John. You need get back out on that field on 30/11 and find the other half of St Andrew ... it would be perfect timing.

Fantastic !! I think SB was Sara Bernhardt..lol. she lost it working in the field, and her male friend, upon finding out she lost it, dumped her. That lead mold could have also been used to make a wax mold for use in casting in the "lost wax" method. Hope you find the other half!!
Hi Ho Silver! Nice finds! Another enjoyable video.
Amazing finds yet again, John!! Your mystery silver item in the beginning is part of a windcap from a smoking pipe. You have the part that fits over the pipe bowl, and the little hinge is where the decorative lid is attached. These show up commonly on the continent but don't seem to have been popular in the UK or America. These are typically 1700s when I find them in Germany. Best wishes and happy digging!
Interesting you have had a couple of Canadian coins latley , silvers were 92.5 %right up to 1920 then 80 % till 1968. I love finding the silver 5 cent pieces , so tiny they are known as fish scales 😉🇨🇦
The first "furniture fitting" reminds me of a ceiling hook to hang plants. I don't know when they started, but were certainly available in the late Victorian.

Can't wait to see the LIGHT BOX. Especially the door hardware thing with the two animal heads and the ring that looks like a Celtic torc with two flat terminals. Very interested in seeing it cleaned up. Even though the threading technology means it is not terribly old. WELL DONE.

Hi John I think years ago they had some sort of pulley system and bells on a piece of farm equipment and a bell would ring to start or stop due to noise from a traction engine, maybe a load thrashing machine. The coins were probably to pay the farm hands. Awesome history mate. Also I think you may have a ring thimble
That possible silver ring with a hinge on it looks to be either a pendant watch case, which were the Ladies' equivalent to a pocket watch, or like you said, it might be a pill pot or something like it.
They sometimes put metal on the rim of decanters and such. Love the love token.😊
Astounding coin finds! I love how you say something's not very old at 150 years, or so. Here in the U.S. we'd call that very old - lol. It's all relative, isn't it. Ireland has thousands of years of known history. The U.S. is a relative baby at just over 200 years.

Maybe you should attach your pouch to your detector or have a check list, water bottle full, battery’s charged etc.. What a day you had, amazing finds. Can’t wait to see the results in the light box. I think that new app worked very well. 😊
The thing @6.03 in the video, looks like something that used to be attached to a horse harness, for the reins to pull through. They are often threaded. At least the ones we have on our farm in Sweden. Ours are dated to the mid 1800s or earlier and this looks similar.
Maybe you could keep all your things in your trunk, except your detector. Of course, that wouldn't keep you from forgetting them in the trunk... but it'd still bring them closer to the place than leaving them at the house would've. Oh, and you'd still have to remember to bring and fill your water bottle. But I can definitely relate!
I'm late to this video, but fortunately your great finds waited for me. The silvers are great, especially the love token. I think the hinged silver item is a bowl cap to a small smoking pipe. This was a wonderful and successful session. Cheers from Texas.
Beautiful love token. The reason they were bent to have three faces was to represent I Love You. Find plenty by not engraved and usually William or Anne
