I think the Church of these centuries ignored what had been written about by the followers of those who witnessed, seeing, heard from Jesus Christ. And above all he has promised by bestow upon his Church his Holy Spirit as the greatest helper of his teachings.

Study history. If you have it by you. .. .When talking about the churches as a whole. If your going after doctrine and heresies, study about it. Don't take second hand knowledge. If you want to know about God, the God Abaham, Jacob, Isaac, and Joseph, then study the Bible. If you need God to help you listen to Christ, study Him. Wisdom is there for those who seek. Knock at it shall be opened to you. Question when you need too. If your looking for opinions get a more than one or two. You hit it when you realize Christ is the pearl of great price, one would sell all to have. You want to come to Christ come to Him, and with impurtunity if need be. He will answer. Also go those who witness to you for Him. Don't be a know it all, be humble. May you find peace, the true peace in Him, forever. Too many don't know of Christ yet, and those that do need to come. Sir GM,I agree to what you have understood rather than the speaker. My understanding is same as yours.

The book of Revelation gives two-fold application regarding the church history which are the 7 churches of Asia. 1st fold application, Christ mentioned each current status of the church in the time of Christ revelation to John and He ordered Him to write it down. The 2nd fold application is each church gives a Prophetic event what will happen in the next future of the churches starting from the beginning 33AD - up to this present day and to the day of Lord's coming to take up His Church.

Catholic comes from greek roots meaning about and whole. Its just different people fighting over doctrine and what we know as the catholic church was just the most powerful one so they decided what was worthy to be in the bible and what wasnt, and they decided what teachings they liked and all others were deemed heretics and punished. Even if those teachings more closely resembled what christ actually taught. They were political appeasers.
