Michael and Bridgette Abtar moved with their two lovely children moved to GHANA because they fell in love with the land and the people when they visited in 2017. They felt the connection between Jamaicans and Ghanaians and knew they were home.
Michael Abtar, LLB (Hons), PGDip.Law, Cert.DPO
Award-Winning CEO, Global Data Privacy & Protection Expert & International Speaker
He has traveled to numerous African countries on business. As a family, they have been to Kenya, Jamaica, St Vincent, and Barbados. Though they have experienced other countries, they felt most at home in Ghana.
A proud husband, father, and CEO of the world-class team at IG-Smart Ltd, which is multi-award-winning UK-based data protection, privacy, governance, and security consultancy with a global presence (serving clients in over 150 countries).
When he is not steering the business or spending time with family, he can generally be found either cooking for friends, trekking through a tropical rainforest, sailing, or playing with their family's two dogs.
Bridgette is a Digital Marketer who uses digital channels to reach customers, build brand awareness, and promote products and services. Because of the unique combination of planning, creativity, and strategy, her role requires her to wear many hats.
She has mastered a wide range of skills and tools in order to stay on top of the ever-growing digital media channels she uses to create, deploy, manage, and track campaigns. Her experiences have trailblazed her to be Homeschooling and educating their children at home instead of sending them to a traditional public or private school.
The Abtar's believe that the three things you need to make it in GHANA is:
-Patience
-Humility
-Finance.
The Best thing about living in GHANA has been:
Just how welcoming the people are. Most Ghanaians you encounter will go out of their way to help you in whatever way they can.

No it wasn't the children were sitting there for an extensive period, in their shoes, that was not fun for them. The glasses they drank out of were too big too. The staging was not good. But the stories and the conversation was great. I feel inspired.

My heart surged with pride when the children first spoke. They are thoughtful and incredibly articulate which is a tribute to the efforts of their parents. I sense that the family is a confident and secure unit and I look forward to hearing more about their success. The Rwanda cleanup effort is transferable, one neighborhood at at time. On our street, we have improved the roadway by banding together as neighbours. We can improve sanitation as well. Let us all make Ghana the place we want it to be neighborhood by neighborhood, instead of complaining about its shortcomings.

Reparations for me would be having the USA send me to Accra and supporting me for the rest of my life. I am over 85 years. I have been retired for 23 years and cannot afford to move out of the USA although I have never felt that I belonged here. This story is so uplifting that I have watched it more than once and will watch it again. It is so heartwarming 💕. They are blessed and a blessing in that they are an inspiration even for those of us who cannot leave. I have never believed the lies told about Africa. What I find interesting is that a white country called Israel, inhabited by Israelis, not Israelites, is in Africa. I can't say anything about that without getting lambasted.

It is sad that more western black families are not together as these people are. The children are well disciplined and sat quietly, listened and learned. They are well spoken and very smart. Good job Mom and Dad. Yes, Africa has always been portrayed in a negative way. I have learned so much from young KZreadrs how people really live. Great interview. I have spent most of my life in Canada and I feel honoured when I go to the Caribbean and my friend's children who are in their thirties plus call me Auntie. No one calls me by my first name. It is either Miss __ or auntie. They respect us and we have to respect them in return. When will the oppression and exploitation end.

These interviews are as refreshing as they are essential to Ghana 🇬🇭 and Africa as a whole. The insidious nature of the lies that have been told, coupled with the continued perpetuation of the negative stereotypes about Mother Africa have done us mental damage to the extent that it has helped to drain Africa and her descendants emotionally, socially and most importantly economically. Shows and interviews like this are needed to continue to be the engine that fuels the momentum of the Diaspora Transition that is happening. Thank you for doing the work. We appreciate it.

The husband was correct when he said "if you're financially established". That's the key, if you're middle or upper middle class in the West and you can transfer your skills and earning potential to Africa, to the countries and areas in those countries, which are middle class by the standards in that country, then of course you'll most likely have a better standard of living, minus the challenges of being black in the West. However, if you are in poorly paid, low paid work in the West and you have little chance by whaever means of increasing your finances, then can you have a better life in Africa? The question is are more people looking to leave those African countries compared to those looking to migrate. And if more are leaving, then why are they leaving 😕?

Watching this interview immediately alleviated the stress I was feeling this morning. Just to hear and watch such demure, elegant and very well spoken beautiful black people warmed my heart. The whole family should be a billboard of how a family should present. The children were so lovely and well-mannered: indicative of great parenting. I’ve been hearing and watching so many people talk beautifully about Africa. Maybe it SHOULD be a consideration. I simply loved this. ❤😊

Its a great opportunity to see a great loving african parents like this because in Africa especially Ghana and Nigeria its very rare to see a loving peaceful african family because in Africa especially in Nigeria and Ghana there’s always toxic african family as far as I know a vast majority of african parents especially parents from Nigeria and Ghana are toxic and savagely abusive towards their own kids to find one peaceful loving caring african family like this is definitely a rare thing but its a blessing god bless this family Ojo, Shem, Chinedu and Clifford Owusu deserve to have a family like this
