This would have taken you hours to work out. It's very kind of you to share this. I hope people appreciate the time you just saved them.
Great tip! This worked for our A7RIII as well, solid connection so far! Thanks for sharing
Awesome! I was trying to figure out what that accessory was for when I purchased my A7RIV. Thanks!
Great vid. Clear and well presented with good link to product. Thanks
Loved your book!
Great tip thanks! Works perfectly
I have just connected the adapter which I found and bought on Ebay and it works perfectly. Thanks so much for sharing this John 🙏

@@RaicoRosenbergThis was a while ago, but I searched for "tethering cable for sony a7iii" and luckily I found a video by John Harrinton on how to do it
Thanks. Took me a while to figure it out. This was helpful
Hey, I'm not the type of person to write comments but you really saved my time and stress over constantly disconnecting usb C cable. You are a genius! Thank you. I really appreciate you taking time to upload this video.
A good hack, and thanks. Slightly off topic (my apologies) but what software do you use to tether to (not Lightroom and it feels kind of expensive to get Capture One just to capture tethers). Also what settings in the A7 III to allow you to easily switch to and from tether mode?
Great video John. Do you think this will work on the A6500? I use it on a gimbal and I’ve broken the HDMI cable several times until I bought a half Cage for the A6500. This would be much lighter though
Yes, That’s in the video. Thanks for asking!

An off topic question, but still regarding the video. Can you tell me where you get those microfiber bags big enough for the camera. Thanks.
thank you john

Amazing, thank you 🙏
Good One! KZread is Awesome and so are you!
Hi John, Neat idea and thanks for the instruction. Where can we purchase this cable adapter? I haven't been able to find it anywhere and can it be used with the Sony a6500?

you can find it their website www.sony.co.uk/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras-other-accessories/cpt-r1
I am wondering if the A7IV and the A7SIII's cable clamper would work like this as well?
Great, Thank you.
So i assume you removed the small screw from the a7iii that is blocked normally (and open on the a7r3) body ?

Daniel Ockeloen yes. That’s in the video. Thanks for asking!
John! I have burning question. Have you ever tried connecting the a7riii to an Android phone using an usb-C to usb-C cable? I was wondering if it could work as an external monitor but I don't have the cash to buy a cable that I don't know if it will work. I'll appreciate any information, thank you!

Well, it's from three years ago and you found out already but for the benefit of anyone looking through the comments for this info. The answer is yes. It does work. There are two apps that I know of: Imaging Edge from Sony, which is free, and Monitor Plus.
GENIUS
Awesome vid. Don't own the A7r3 but so you know where I can order that part.
my Mac can't connect to the camera using apple usb c. do I need a tethering cable or any other solution or problem?
DOVE POSSO COMPRARE IL CAVO
nice
I did the same thing!
I shaved my cable to do exactly this only to realize I had an L shaped/right-angle cable... :( Now I'm stuck with a USB to tether.
Use tape to control the tethering cable.
What's name of that?

It’s so you can fire the pics straight to your laptop/computer instantly (Lightroom) and see and edit what you have taken
An off topic question is it only me who see this man as the Don Vito Corleone ;) !!
Just use USB-C port, and no more stuck like using micro usb port
I hate tethering. It’s so primitive with a physical cord. Maybe one day when it can be done wirelessly...

adventure_photo there’s a wireless tethering module, it’s called „Air Direct“. I reckon you can find it on the tether tools website in the menu via „Wireless Tethering“. But it costs about 350 Bucks, i guess
Nevermind😂
No lens cap, and puts it lens down on the table, I'm gonna die.

Simply Simon the glass isn’t on the outest edge of the lens housing? you can actually put it down like that without harming anything
NIce, but completly useless. Just use an angeled cable instead, much cheaper than that overpriced tethertool cable and sooo easy and reliable. It does not even bother you when you take the camera in you hand. (search for 5meter Quest2 cables)
What setting in the Sony A7III camera menu that allows tether. I can not figure it out.
